Abstract

The Communication Strategy is a systematic technique used by foreign language learners to express their ideas when they have difficulties to communicate due to their incomplete mastery of B2. Konversation course is a subject in which the students are to speak freely with a particular topic; moreover, the learners have been equipped with simple linguistic rules, so that they have a tendency to seek ways to make the message acceptable.   Communication strategy that is widely used by JSJ UM students are transfers, because not only they literally translate concepts but they also use terms and vocabulary  from their mother tongue  and English  in uttering German.  The  reasons  that  influence  the  use  of  these  forms  of  communication strategy are the students’ insufficiency in mastering grammar and vocabulary skills to be able to communicate in a variety of fields because they are still at the early stages of learning.

Abstract

Without  the provision  of differentiation  service  for gifted students,  the program would be so called gifted student without gifted program. The predicted danger that would arise for gifted students  in normal  service is that the students experience underachievement;  therefore, it is necessary to apply the differentiated- curriculum model for gifted students. This article describes not only a curriculum model that is used in the school with its gifted students program or acceleration class but also the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the model. The method used was a combination model of RDR  (research,   development,   research) with R2D2 (recursive, reflective, design, and development) with     adaptations,   modifications, and/or  a particular   transformation.  The data were gathered through documentation of   data   collection   techniques,   unstructured   interviews,   questionnaires,    and observation. The curriculum was developed under the procedures of: Pemendiknas No. 22 of 2006, Identification, Escalation, Essence, Mapping, organization and allocation of time

Abstract

Viewed from their linguistic forms, Asmaul Husna are classified into the mubalaghah group whose meanings require the addition of “Maha” (the All-/Omni- /the Most) and the non-mubalaghah  group, without the word “Maha”. Out of 99, only 69 names come up in the Qur’an with different frequencies, ranging from 1 to 138 times. The implication of this fact for professional educators is the requirement for pedagogical competence, personality competence, and social competence. Out of 5 data sources, there are 4 variants of translation, and a shift of form and meaning has been found. However, according Islamic theology, all names in Asmaul Husna must  be  translated  with  the  word  “Maha”,  which  shows  perfection  in  divine attributes.    Further research should be directed toward the study of Asmaul Husna in the Hadeeth of the Prophet.

Abstract

Foreign language attitude plays a significant role in enhancing ones’ motivation to learn a particular foreign language. This study aims to obtain an understanding  of Indonesian students’ attitude towards Japanese language.  The  data  were  collected  from  160  students  learning  Japanese. Foreign language attitude questionnaire (FLAQ) originally developed by Pierson et al. (1980) was used in this study. Further, attitude factors identified by Pennington and Yu (1994) following the result of FLAQ factor analysis was also incorporated in the current research. It is evident in this study that the majority of students showed positive attitude towards Japanese language. That is, they showed no negative orientation towards this foreign language and culture. The study also observed no significant differences in attitude towards Japanese language between male and female students (p>.05). Abstract

Putting self-autonomy of a man as the rational subject itself is an extreme while putting a dependency of rational human subject within themselves in relation to psychological, socio-economic is the other extreme. This study aims at explaining how  the  main  character,  Minke  in  the  narrative  discourse  address  these  two extremes.  The  data  in this  research  were  in the  form  of  text  units  which  were analyzed using Buhler semiotic model. The results of the study showed that there are three ways used by the subjects to express themselves, namely (1) symptomic way, which was expressed through the validity claims of honesty; (2) the signalic way, shown through the regulative speech using normative validity of accuracy; and (3) the symbolic way, done through the objective validity of truth claims. The findings imply that the subject’s  orientations  in doing communicative  speech acts are the achievement of self-understanding and rational agreement without violence.

Abstract

This article examines the roles of fantasy and desire in the process of identity construction  as experienced  by Luh Sekar, one of the characters  in Oka Rusmini’s most notable work of fiction, Tarian Bumi. Employing Stuart Hall’s postulate on identity construction in critically reading the novel, it is found that the subject’s identity construction is highly influenced by her fantasy and desire of caste and gender - not only does caste structure women’s social location through rank and role, but that as part of the symbolic order it constitutes the women themselves.
