Abstract

ABSTRACTThe aim of this research is to determine the effect of cognitive style and gender on mathematical problem solving ability. This research is an expost facto research. The students of Mathematics Education Department of Universitas Sulawesi Barat who program the trigonometric course were made population in this research. Data were collected by documentation dan test techniques. Documentation was used to obtain data of gender. GEFT test and problem solving ability test were used by researcher. The technique of data analysis used multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that (a) cognitive style influenced the mathematical problem solving ability with significantly; (b) gender has no effect on the mathematical problem solving ability; (c) cognitive and gender styles together have a significant effect on mathematical problem-solving ability. Keywords:  Cognitive Style, Gender, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to analyze students mathematical understanding ability. The research approach used is qualitative with an analytical descriptive method so that obtained the description of students mathematical understanding ability. The instrument used is the test of mathematical understanding ability, interview guidance, and questionnaire that has been done validation. The test aims to obtain a picture of student error answers based on the scores obtained. Interview guide to obtain information about students mistakes. Questionnaires to know students interest in math. The subject of the research is the students of class VIII in one junior high school in Kabupaten Bandung Barat as many as 36 people. The results showed that students made a mistake in determining the characteristics of the rectangular building. Students cannot complete the calculation of area and around the rectangle correctly. The students understanding of mathematical ability lies in the low criteria so that improvement needs to be made. Students who can solve mathematical comprehension problems enjoy math lessons.  Keywords: Mathematical Understanding Ability, Error Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study aims to see the effect of CORE instruction methods toward mathematical critical thinking  ability and mathematical dispositions of high school students in East Jakarta. Samples of this research is 88 students 11th grade Science Major from SMA Negeri Jakarta Timur. Research methods is quasi experiment using treatment by level  design. Data collection were using instruments of test and questionnarie test: mathematics prior knowledge and mathematical critical thinking ability test, and mathematical dispositions questionnaire test. Data analaysis is using two way ANOVA. Results indicated that: (1) Mathematical critical thinking ability and mathematical dispositions of students treated by CORE instruction is higher than students treated by Direct Instruction, (2) There is an interaction between learning models and mathematics prior knowledge (KAM) that have significant effect toward mathematical critical thinking ability and students mathematical dispositions, (3) Mathematical critical thinking ability and mathematical dispositions of students with high KAM treated by CORE instruction is higher than students with high KAM treated by Direct Instruction, (4) There is no significant effect of learning models toward mathematical critical thinking ability and mathematical dispositions of students with low KAM.Keywords: CORE Instruction, Mathematical Critical Thinking Ability, Mathematical Dispositions, Mathematics Prior Knowledge

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to produce Didaktis Design teaching materials straight line equations. This research method is Research and Development (R & D) with the model used is 4D.Tahapan done from defining phase (Define), design stage (Development), stage of dissemination (Dessiminate). Data collection techniques used are qualitative and quantitative analysis. Validation is done by material experts and media experts. The experiments were conducted through two stages: small group trial and large group trials. The results of validation of the material experts on the content quality aspect obtained an average score of 3.5 with valid criteria, on the aspect of the accuracy of the scope obtained an average score of 3.5 with valid criteria, and language aspects earned an average score of 3.2 with valid criteria. Expert media validation on Module size aspect obtains average score of 3.5 with valid criteria, skin design aspect Module obtains average score of 3.5 with valid criteria and on design aspect of content Module obtains average score 3.5 with criteria valid. In a limited trial of class VIII students in the attractiveness test obtained an average score of 3.6 with very interesting criteria and educator response with a score of 3.7 with very interesting criteria.  Keywords: Dictatical Design, Development of Teaching Materials, Straight Line Equations

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is based on the lack of mathematical reasoning skills of students. we need a strategy to encourage students to develop mathematical reasoning ability. Learning strategy group investigation allows students to develop mathematical reasoning skills. The aims of this study are to examine the improvement of mathematical reasoning abilities of students who get group investigation and students who get regular learning. Design of this studi is the design of a control group of non-equivalence in order to obtain samples of class X in one of SMA in Solok of two classes using purposive sampling technique. Instruments of this study includes tests of mathematical reasoning ability. Based on the analysis of information found that Improvement of student’s mathematical reasoning ability who got group investigation learning better than students who got the regular learning.Keywords: Mathematical Reasoning, Group Investigation Learning, Regular Learning

Abstract

AbtractThis study aims to analyze and prove the existence of influence ketahanmalangan and creativity to the ability of problem solving math. The research method used is survey method with correlational analysis. Population in this research is all students of class X SMK Kharismawita 2, South Jakarta. While the sample of 30 students class X SMK Kharismawita 2, South Jakarta registered in the academic year 2017/2018. The instruments used in this research data collection consisted of: a questionnaire about resilience and creativity, and a written test of mathematics subjects. Test data analysis requirements consist of: normality test, linearity test, and multicollinearity test. The result of three data analysis requirement test obtained by conclusion that the three groups of data come from normal distributed population, the two regression models formed are linear pattern, and there is no relation between the independent variables. Hypothesis testing is done by correlation test and regression test. Results of hypothesis testing and analysis, it concluded that there is influence ketahanmalangan and creativity to the problem solving ability of mathematics. This means that variable ketahanmalangan and creativity play a role in learning mathematics, which affects the variable problem solving skills of mathematics. So in the learning, educators are concerned about the factors ketahanmalangan and creativity of learners and make efforts to improve both these factors through interesting math learning. Keywords: Adversity Quotient, Creativity, Learning Mathematics

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was determine the application of contextual teaching learning approach to improve the mastery of concepts volume of the rotary object. The study design was nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Data collection technique used pretest and posttest to determine the mastery of concepts of volume of the rotary object. Hypothesis testing using t-test to compare the the mastery of concepts volume of the rotary object in the experimental class and control class, then a further test by comparing the mean (compare means) and average absolute gain Based on the research result the data show that it can be concluded that the approach of contextual learning significantly distinction of concepts volume of the rotary object. Keywords:  Contextual Teaching Learning Approach, The Mastery of Concepts, Volume of The Rotary Object

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine differences in the increase in the ability of understanding mathematical concepts among students were given group to group exchange learning strategy with contextual approach with students who are given direct instructional model, determine students individually and classical  learning completeness and know the learning activities of students. This research uses Quasi Experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this research is all class VIII SMP 12 Singkawang consisting of four classes totaling 84 students. The sample was taken by by purposive sampling technique. The sample consists of two classes, namely class VIII B as the experimental class were 21 students and class VIII C as the control class as many as 21 students. The results showed that there were differences increased ability of understanding mathematical concepts among students given group to group exchange learning strategy with contextual approach with students who are given direct learning model, the students achieved complete learning individually or classically and the students learning activities were quite active. Keywords:  Mathemactical Understanding, Group to Group Exchange Strategy, Contextual Approach

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aims to determine the effect of invention-based learning models on mathematical critical thinking skill and self concept by controlling the initial ability of class VII Junior High School students on the subject of flat building in the academic year 2016/2017. The research method used in this research is quasi experimental method with Posttest Only Control Group Design. The sample in this study amounted to 96 students selected by using cluster random sampling technique with three classes of samples. Methods of data collection in this study were obtained through the provision of initial ability tests, tests of critical thinking skills mathematically, and self concept questionnaires that have been validated and tested its reliability. The data were processed using covariance analysis (ANCOVA) and continued with corrected t-test. The result of the research shows that 1) There is difference of influence of invention-based learning model on mathematical critical thinking skill and self concept by controlling the initial ability of class VII Junior High School students, 2) Mathematical critical thinking skill of learners using guided discovery learning model better than the ability of learners to learn using guided inquiry learning models and conventional learning models, (3) Self Concept mathematical learners who learn by using guided discovery learning model better than learners ability to learn using guided inquiry model and conventional learning model.Keywords: Invention-Based Learning Model, Mathematical Critical Thinking Skill, Self Concept, Initial Ability

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is motivated by the lack of ability of student teachers of mathematics FKIP University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa in developing worksheets and media exploratory hands on activity. Based on observations in the course clump of learning (planning, strategies and evaluation) and the implementation of microteaching done by the students, obtained the fact that students in developing a worksheet is a collection of questions and do not require the capability of understanding the concept of the student. In addition, student teachers are still rarely use the media in learning, due to difficulties in designing and creating instructional media. Hence the need for teaching material that can be used as guides student teachers to develop explorative and media worksheet hands on activity. Thus the formulation of the problem and the purpose of this study is how to develop teaching material based worksheets and media exploratory hands on activity. The method used in this research is the development method includes preliminary studies, draft development, testing and development of the final product.The results of this research is a module consisting of four units, units of learning theory, the difference unit worksheets and job sheets, media unit hands on activity and worksheet exploratory unit. In each unit consists of several sub-units that correspond to the unit. Based on the results of expert testing and limited trials showed that the worksheet-based development modules exploratory and hands on activity worthy of media used. Keywords: Teaching Material, Worksheet Explorative, Media Hands on Activuty
