Abstract

The case of lung cancer increased lately. World Health Organization (WHO) include lung cancer as one of the major problems facing the world in this decade, as more than 1.1 million people died from the disease. In histopathology, lung cancer is divided into several types, one of which is Adenocarcinoma. Various therapies developed to improve survival in patients with lung cancer, and recently also developed a therapeutic gene targets, one of which is the anti-EGFR. However, this therapy needs to be examination of the EGFR gene mutation, because the anti-EGFR therapy would respond in patients with EGFR gene mutation. This study aims to see how the pattern of EGFR mutations, and their relation to age, sex, and smoking habits. Research samples taken from pleural fluid cytology or biopsy of the tumor with fine needle aspiration, then examined whether there is an EGFR mutation. In this study, obtained 38 samples of patients with Adenocarcinoma of the lung, where 34% of patients had mutations in the gene EGFR, which consisted of 7 patients had mutations deletion in exon 19, 1 patients with mutations in exon 21L86IQ, 4 patients experienced EGFR mutations in exons 21L858R, and contained 1 those patients who had mutations in two places, namely in exon 19 and exon 21L861Q. EGFR mutations are many in the age range 40-49 years, but there is no relationship between the age of the patient with the presence and absence of mutations in the EGFR gene. In this study there was no difference between men and women who have EGFR mutations, but women with lung adenocarcinoma more mutated in EGFR. On this study, patients who did not smoke more EGFR mutations (51%) compared to the active smoking (10%). Keywords: lung adenocarcinoma, EGFR mutations

Abstract

Cancer is the second leading cause of death which contributes 13% of deaths from a total of 22% of deaths from non-communicable diseases in the world. One contributor to the number of cancer deaths in the world is colorectal cancer. The prognosis of colorectal cancer depend on the stage of cancer at time of diagnosis. However, the prognosis of colorectal cancer can also be determined by looking at the degree of infiltration of lymphocytes in cancer. The purpose of this research is to find out the degree of lymphocytes infiltration in patients with colorectal cancer in Laboratory of Anatomical Pathology Banjarmasin from January to December 2013. The method uses descriptive research by observing the colorectal cancer tissues were obtained from the Laboratory of Pathology Banjarmasin. From a study of 32 samples, found the degree of mild lymphocytic infiltration occurred in 12 patients (37.5%), moderate lymphocytic infiltration occurred in 12 patients (37.5%), and severe lymphocyte infiltration occurred in 8 patients (25%). From this study, found that there are differences in the degree of infiltration of lymphocytes in patients with colorectal cancer. Keywords: Colorectal Cancer, Lymphocyte Infiltration, Prognosis

Abstract

The incidences of colorectal cancer in a developing country such as Indonesia are thought to increase, related to some risk factors that increase the likelihood of colorectal cancer to develop. We have done a study aimed to describe the incidence of colorectal cancer based on risk factor in patients of RSUD Ulin Banjarmasin from April-September 2014. This is a descriptive study using primary data obtained through the use of questionnaire. A total of 39 samples were chosen using non randomized accidental sampling technique. The age group with the most incidence of colorectal cancer was the productive age group (15-64 years old) with as many as 79,49% of all samples. Colorectal cancer patients with a bad diet pattern were as many as 82,05% of all samples. Most of the colorectal cancer patients were diagnosed with colorectal tumor or polyp (69,72%). A total of 30 patients (76,92%) were never diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. As many as 76,93% patients were without any familial history of cancer. The lifestyles of 61,54% colorectal cancer patients were bad lifestyle. Based on the result it can be concluded that diet pattern, age, tumor history, and lifestyle had a significant distribution on the incidences of colorectal cancer. Keywords: colorectal cancer, colorectal polyp, ulcerative colitis.

Abstract

Artocarpus species have been used by traditional medicine of Indonesian. It can be useful as anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-helmintics. The present study was aimed to test the inhibitory glycated hemoglobin potency of aqueous extract of Jackfuit. This study is a quasi experimental research with non randomized method post test-only group design, which using a model reaction of two groups : extract jackfruit as the test group and glikazid as the control group, with each concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%. Potential inhibitor of glycated hemoglobin jackfruit as determining the amount of IC50. From this research  got IC50 of jackfruit extracts is 56,43% (r=0,999) whereas for glikazid of 17.268 (r = 0.989). The value of r indicates a positive relationship between the concentration and the inhibitor glycated hemoglobin potential. These results indicate that the extract of Jackfruit has potential as an inhibitor glycated hemoglobin. Keywords: glycated hemoglobin,  jackfruit, Artocarpus heterophllus L, glikazid.

Abstract

Protein denaturation is a cause of inflammation. Autoantigens produced in diseases linked with inflammation are thought to be caused by protein denaturation. Mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana) is used widely in Southeast Asia as an alternativemedicine because of its strong antioxidant property, thus it potentially has an antiinflammatory effect. The aim of this study is to test the anti inflammatory potency of mangosteen juice. This is a quasi experimental study with non randomized posttest-only with control group design method, using reaction model of inflammation consisted of two groups: mangosteen juice as the test group and natrium diclofenac as the standard group, divided into 10%, 20%, and 30% concentration. IC50 value is used to determine the anti-inflammatory potency of mangosteen juice as protein denaturation inhibitor. The result of this study indicate that the mangosteen fruit juice has the IC50 value of 16,91% (r = 0,965), whereas for diclofenac sodium by 11,87% (r = 0,866). A positive value of r indicates a positive relation between concentration and anti inflammatory potency. The result shows that mangosteen juice has a potential as a protein denaturation inhibitor. Keywords: protein denaturation, antiinflammation, mangosteen.
