Abstract

The developmental research objective is to produce the module of outer space physics (Fisika Bumi Antariksa or FBA) that is suitbale and effective to increase the students’ achievment of Physics Education in Faculty Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University. The developmental method used Four D Mode covering define, design, develop, and disseminate. The subject of research is 33 students who took the outer space physics lecture for odd semester in 2011/2012. The data collection technique used the evaluation of suitability, questionnaire, and test. The tecnique of data analysis is qualitative and descriptive. The result of research stated that (1) the module of outer space physics is suitable for learning material relating to content, language, and dilivery; (2) the students’ achievment is good because 9% of the students total number got “A” meaning very satisfying, 45% of them got “B” meaning satisfying, 27% of them got “C” meaning enough satisfying; and (3) the students responded positively to the use of the module of outer space physics in teaching learning activity. In a word, the module of outer space physics is suitable and effective to increase the students’ achievment of Physics Education in Faculty Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University.

Abstract

This study aims to improve teacher performance in conducting exploration, elaboration, and confirmation in science classroom. The School Action Research  conducted in fourth and fifith grade of SDN Sidorejo Tanjung consists of 2 (two) cycles. Research subjects are two science teachers in fourth and fifth grade. The findings revealed that through establishing action in 2 cycles, fourth grade science teachers ability to conduct exploration improves from 8,0 to 12,0; elaboration improves from 9,0 to 13,0, and confirmation improves from 8,0 to 12,5. For fifth grade science teacher, teachers ability to conduct exploration improves from 6,5 to 12,0; elaboration improves from 6,0 to 12,0; and confirmation improves from 7,3 to 12,0.  In general, teachers’ ability to conduct exploration, elaboration, and confirmation increase from 52,25% in cycle 1 (good category) to 78% in cycle 2 (excellent).

Abstract

This research aims to develop the module of  Research Metodology especially for Class Action Research (CAR) material which is worthed and effective to increase student creativity and comprehension in Department of Physical Education Faculty of Teacher Training Education Lambung Mangkurat University. The data was analyzed by qualitative descriptive method. The result are converted by the degree of concensus; if supporting answers are selected by more than 50% respondents, the item will be kept. An item is going to be dropped, if 50% respondents reject the supporting answer. The findings show that this module; a) helps student to understand the material; b) relates the phenomena of moving activity; c) has the format that is easy to follow; d) has the sufficient procedure; (e) easy to understand (f) has meaningful and usefulness in supporting lecture; (g) improves students’ comprehension and creativity; (h) helps students to arrange class action research plan. The high of concencus degree shows that the use of this module is the best solution to cope with student problem in Research Methodology class.

Abstract

Abstract: The study is directed to improve students’ comprehension of poems using the Two Stay-TwoStray strategy. The subject of this study is 23 students of the sixth semester of English department ofFKIP at Islamic University of Malang. This study uses collaborative action research design which consistsof four main steps: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The data is taken from quiz,observation checklist and field notes. The findings indicate that using TS-TS strategy can improve thestudents’ comprehension of poems. The average score of students’ test in Cycle 2 is 80 and the students’active involvement in Cycle 2 is 86%. The data are obtained from the implementation of TS-TS strategyin improving students’ comprehension of poems.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan siswa terhadap puisi denganmenggunakan strategi Two stay-Two Stray. Subjek penelitian adalah 23 orang mahasiswa semester 6Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Universitas Islam Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desainpenelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri atas empat langkah utama, prencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasidan refleksi. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan kuis, observasi dan catatan lapangan. Temuanpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi TS-TS dapat menigkatkan penguasaan siswa terhadap puisi.Rata-rata skor siswa paa siklus 2 adalah 80 dan keterlibatan aktivitas siswa di siklus 2 adlah 86% .Data ini diperoleh dri implementasi strategi TS-TS dalam meningkatkan penguasaan siswa terhadappuisi.Key Words: comprehension of poems, Two Stay-Two Stray Strategy

BILINGUALISM IN TEACHING MATHEMATICS TO YOUNG LEARNERS IN EFL SETTING

Abstract

This study tried to investigate the practice in teaching mathematics through English to young learners in EFL setting in a private elementary school in Cianjur. This study was conducted as an effort to find out the fact behind the practice of using English as instruction language at school especially at International Standard School. The findings revealed that in practice the concept of bilingual teaching was not done properly. The activity was dominantly in Indonesia while English was used only at the beginning to introduce the students to new mathematics terms in English. While the text book and exercise book are written in English, the test is in Indonesia. Most students considered it difficult to understand mathematics in English.  However, from the questionnaires it was found that the students’ attitude toward their native and national language is not positive. Most of them see English as the most important and prestigious language. In contrary, Sundanese is considered less popular and the most difficult language for them.

Abstract

This article explores the school inspection framework and indicators of educational effectiveness used in the Netherlands and Indonesia. The Dutch inspectorate carries out school inspection in the form of periodical quality inspection in which schools are assessed through desk-research analysis. Meanwhile, Indonesia employs school accreditation boards and school inspectors to evaluate school quality through desk-analysis and visitation. Both countries apply rather similar indicators of educational effectiveness. The Netherlands uses in-depth content analysis, however,  Indonesia uses a rather broad one.

Abstract

This experimental research has objectives to find out the difference between the three-time-aweek training and the four-time-a-week training upon the result of tuck style long jump, and to find the difference of long term between high leg explosive and low leg explosive upon the result of tuck style long jump, and to figure out the interaction between the frequency of one-week training and leg explosive power upon the result of tuck style long jump. The result of the research in the first hypothesis testing indicated that there was a significantly different effect between the tree-time-a-week training frequency and the four-time-a-week training frequency on the result of tuck style long jump. The second hypothesis testing was that there was a significantly different effect between high leg explosive power and low leg explosive power upon the result of tuck style long jump. The third hypothesis testing was that there was a relationship between the a-week training frequently and the leg explosive to tuck style long jump.

Abstract

This article describes the ability of students of eight grade of High School 1 Pacet Cianjur 2011/2012 in the use of diction in a narrative essay. Research was carried out by using the descriptive method. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion are showed that students’ ability to write essay in terms of accuracy of the use of diction which is an average 66.36. An examination of the use of language styles, the average value obtained is 65.68 students, meanwhile, viewed from the aspect of the use of the phrase sentences in a narrative written by the average value obtained by the students is 66.36. Therefore, it can be concluded that in general the ability of students to use diction, style and expression language sentences in writing a narrative essay is generally sufficient.

Abstract

This paper is the result of the Classroom Action Research based on the problems faced in the Population Introduction class of Sociology Education Program FKIP UNLAM.  It is studied in this paper wether the Contekstual Teaching Learning (CTL) approach can improve the analytical skills of students in the classroom? Can students master the material properly after following Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) approach? How do student perceptions and impression about the Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) approach? The method of the study is class action research. It uses qualitative methods approach. The research carried out in 2 cycles consists of four stages of action research, namely: the action planning phase, implementation phase of the action, the stage of observation, and reflection phases. The study finds that CTL approach can improve the students analytical skills and receive positive response from the students.

Abstract

This research relates to the implimentation of STAD model in State Senior High School 2 (SMAN 2) Tanjung. The research objective is to increase the students’ learning activity and teacher’ activity quality as well as to increase the students’ achievment on hydrolysis salt material. The research is based on the classroom action research (CAR) through 2 cycles. The research subject is 33 students of second class majoring on natural science in SMAN 2 Tanjung. The data collection used students’ and the teacher’s activity obeservation sheets as well as achievment result. The data were qualitatively analyzed with percentage technique. The result of research stated that (1) students’ activity underwent progress in the first cycle and that described 10 activities that achieve the activeness percentage, namely more than 85%, whereas in the second cycle students’ activity turned into 14 activities; (2) the quality of teacher’s activity was higher or 80,7% in the second cycle than in the first cyle, namely 79,5%; and (3) the completeness of students’ learning increased from 73% into 91%. The group’s score increased in the first cycle; there were not groups that had super quality, but there was 1 group that had great quality in the second cycle.
