Abstract

Conflicts in a household are something that can not be avoided but must be faced. For this reason, in an effort to reduce or resolve conflicts that occur in households, couples must establish effective communication. Effective communication is certainly inseparable from empathy that requires the ability of husband and wife to listen to their partners attentively and be willing to receive messages from their partners. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of empathy training to reduce marital conflict in married couples in early years marriage. Empathy training was developed based on 4 empathy techniques, namely self-empathy, accepting others, accurate listening, and perspective taking. Empathy training was conducted on married couples who live in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. The study used a between group/pretest-posttest control group design and data were collected with marital conflict scale. The results of data analysis showed that empathy training was effective to reduce marital conflict in married couples in the early years of marriage. This study also demonstrated a decrease in conflict from married couples and they have insight in the form of awareness that conflicts in marriage need to be overcome through empathic communication.

Abstract

Previous studies about measurement scale development of teamwork are mainly related to corporate context (e.g. Roosmalen, 2012) but research that focuses on small medium enterprises in Indonesia is rare. This study aims to develop and validate the effectiveness of teams in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The development of measuring tool in this research uses the theory developed by Cantu (2007) which consists of six aspects, namely teamwork, decision making, leadership support, trust and respect, recognition and appreciation, and customer focus. Research respondents are 404 employees who work on thirteen SMEs in Yogyakarta. From the results of EFA analysis obtained KMO = .821 and the aspects are reduced from six to three: decision making, leadership support, trust. While the results of CFA analysis obtained the value of CMIN = 116.566, probability = .057, CMIN/DF = 1.240, GFI = .932, RMSEA = .034. Therefore, the model is able to measure team effectiveness of small-medium business organizations

Abstract

Adolescents intensively compare themselves with others while seeing or accessing their social media, which can lead them to a sense of envy or inferiority, then bringing to a decrease in self-esteem. However, a sense of gratitude in the adolescent may improve their confidence and optimism, resulting in more positive self-esteem. The purpose of this study is to see the role of gratitude in the influence of social comparison on the self-esteem of social media adolescent users. The research was conducted by the instrument of the scale of INCOM, gratitude scale, and self-esteem state scale, distributed to 200 social media adolescent users in DKI Jakarta. The results of the data analysis show that there is a significant role of gratitude in the influence of social comparison on the adolescent self-esteem of social media users. Gratitude serves to increase the self-esteem of the adolescent which previously decreased as a result of the social comparison. This study has a number of weaknesses in the use of the instruments, especially social comparisons scale. Further research is expected to focus more on one kind of social media.

Abstract

Job turnover for Generation Y has become a common phenomenon in the industry in large cities. They tend to believe that it is not difficult leaving the job and not important to immediately settle in the organization. The study aims to understand the mediating role of Organizational Commitment (OC) between perceived organizational support (POS) and turnover intention (TO). A purposive sampling technique was used in this study with 284 generation Y employees living in large cities (19-37 years old) as participants. There are three questionnaires used in this study namely Turnover Intention Scale, Organizational Commitment Scale and Survey of Perceived Organizational Support. The investigation discovers that POS positively affect OC and negatively on TO. Employing a mediation analysis showed that OC is a significant mediator from the relationship of POS and TO. The inventions of this research provide information for institutions on how to effectively manage and retain Generation Y employees through POS and OC.

Abstract

Prolonged conflict in Aceh could cause trauma, especially to people that affected by the conflict directly.  Not only the traumatic events could generate post-traumatic disorder, but also develop posttraumatic growth (PTG). PTG is a positive transformation generated by the adaptation processor adjustment of traumatic events in life. This research aims to examine the relationship between coping with PTG.  The subject involved in this research are 55 people, aged over 20 years, live in Aceh Besar, and experiencing certain events during the conflict. This research used coping and posttraumatic growth questionnaire and used Product Moment Pearson Correlation for data analysis. The result showed that coping has the correlation with post-traumatic growth r =0.523 (p<0.01). In addition, the coping type that also has correlated to post-traumatic growth is seeking for social support (r=0.545), followed by distancing (r=0315), self-control and accepting (r=0.274), whereas confronting and escape does not have the relationship with post-traumatic growth.

Abstract

In Human Resource Management, Millennials Generation, including those who work as a lecturer in Indonesia, is often studied in relation to their low level of organizational commitment. However, organizational commitment is believed to bring many positive impacts to the organization. As a successor to senior lecturers, Millennial Generation lecturers are often faced with various challenges that can trigger them to decide to quit the lecturer profession and leave the college. Therefore, this research aims to discover factors that influence Millennials Generation lecturers?? organizational commitment. The instruments used were the Organizational Commitment Scale, Job Satisfaction Survey, and Professional Commitment Scale. The respondents were 123 Millennial lecturers from 10 higher-education institutions in Padang, Jakarta, and Bali. The analysis method used is multiple regression. The research findings demonstrate that job satisfaction and professional commitment have a significant impact on organizational commitment. Specifically, the facets of job satisfaction and the components of professional commitment that had a significant impact on millennial lecturers?? organizational commitment are satisfaction toward supervisor, continuous professional commitment, and normative professional commitment. The research findings had an important impact in managing millennial lecturers in order to improve their organizational commitment.

Abstract

Working conditions in free-to-air companies were usually described as stressful with longer working hours and high turnover number. On the other hand, free-to-air companies faced problems in terms of working performance and high turnover number. There have not been many kinds of research conducted on a condition in free-to-air companies, especially in Indonesia. This research aimed to study working conditions in free-to-air companies using three variables which are Affective Organization Commitment (AOC), Employee Engagement (EE), and Perceived Organizational Support (POS). The data were obtained by using 3 measurements, which are Affective Organization Commitment scale, Survey of Perceived Organizational Support, Employee Engagement scale based on Aon Hewitt model. The researcher believed that each variable was positively related, and EE had a role to be partial mediator which mediate correlation between POS and AOC. The respondents consisted of 139 employees of Indonesian free-to-air companies which were obtained from convenience sampling with the criteria of being a permanent employee, had worked for at least a year, and being 23-55 years old. Statistical techniques PROCESS which was developed by Hayes were applied to test the mediation role and Pearson Correlation was applied to investigate the correlation of each variable. The result showed that all variables were positively related and EE acted as a partial mediator to a correlation between POS and AOC on free-to-air company employees.

Abstract

Abstract: The concept of objective measurement in the social sciences and educational assessment must have five criteria: 1) Gives a linear measure with the same interval; 2) Conduct a proper estimation process; 3) Finding unfeasible items (misfits) or outliers; 4) Overcoming the lost data; 5) Generate replicable measurements (independent of the parameters studied). These five conditions of measurement, so far only Rasch model that can fulfill it. The quality of intelligence measurements made with the Rasch model will have the same quality as the measurements made in the physical dimension in the field of physics. The logit scale (log odds unit) generated in the Rasch model is the scale of the same interval and is linear from the data ratio (odds ratio).  Based on the results of the analysis that has been done on the IST test instrument can be seen that in general the quality of IST test included in either category. Of the 176 IST test items there is only 1 item that is not good, ie aitem 155 (WU19) so that aitem 155 should be discarded. Based on the DIF analysis it can be seen that there are 28 items in favor of one gender only, so the twenty-eight items should be revised.Abstrak: Konsep pengukuran objektif dalam ilmu sosial dan penilaian pendidikan harus memiliki lima kriteria: 1) Memberikan ukuran yang linier dengan interval yang sama; 2) Melakukan proses estimasi yang tepat; 3) Menemukan item yang tidak tepat (misfits) atau tidak umum (outlier); 4) Mengatasi data yang hilang; 5) Hasilkan pengukuran yang replicable (independen dari parameter yang diteliti). Kelima kondisi pengukuran ini, sejauh ini hanya model Rasch yang bisa memenuhinya. Kualitas pengukuran kecerdasan yang dibuat dengan model Rasch akan memiliki kualitas yang sama dengan pengukuran yang dibuat dalam dimensi fisik di bidang fisika. Skala logit (log odds unit) yang dihasilkan dalam Rasch model adalah skala interval yang sama dan linear dari rasio data (odds ratio). Berdasarkan hasil analisis yang telah dilakukan pada instrumen tes IST dapat diketahui bahwa secara umum kualitas tes IST termasuk dalam kategori baik. Dari 176 item tes IST hanya ada 1 item yang tidak bagus, yaitu aitem 155 (WU19) sehingga aitem 155 harus dibuang. Berdasarkan analisis DIF dapat dilihat bahwa ada 28 item yang mendukung satu jenis kelamin saja, sehingga dua puluh delapan item harus direvisi.

Abstract

Abstract: It is known that it is quite difficult for companies to create a working environment that suits the characters of the Millennials, who are now undoubtedly make up the largest proportion of the workforce. This study aims to understand how job autonomy and boredom at work affect Millennials?? work engagement. Using non-probability sampling methods, 320 Millennial employees (19??37 years old) from various organizations (private and public organization) in Indonesia agreed to participate in this study. They filled in a questionnaire that measured the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9), Work Design Questionnaire (WDQ); and Workplace Boredom Scale. Data were analyzed using mediation analysis; and the results showed that boredom at work plays a significant role in mediating the relationship between job autonomy and employee engagement in Millennial employees. To conclude, job autonomy positively affects boredom levels of Millennial employees and low levels of boredom results in a higher employee engagement level.Abstrak: Dapat dipahami bahwa perusahaan kesulitan menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang sesuai bagi karyawan-karyawannya, khususnya karyawan Generasi Milenial yang merupakan pemain utama dalam dunia kerja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat peran dari variabel-variabel yang diduga dapat mem­pengaruhi keterikatan kerja karyawan Generasi Milenial, yaitu kemandirian kerja dan kebosanan bekerja. Menggunakan metode non-probability sampling, 320 karyawan Generasi Milenial (19-37 tahun) dari berbagai organisasi di Indonesia (organisasi swasta dan negeri) bersedia berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Mereka mengisi beberapa kuesioner, antara lain The Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) Work Design Questionnaire dan Workplace Boredom Scale. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis mediasi; dan hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa kebosanan bekerja berperan signifikan dalam memediasi hubungan kemandiran kerja dan keterikatan kerja pada karyawan Generasi Milenial. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemandirian kerja dapat mempengaruhi kebosanan Generasi Milenial dalam bekerja dan rendahnya tingkat kebosanan dalam bekerja tersebut dapat mempengaruhi keterikatan kerja yang dimiliki.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study to find out the correlation between amanah and social support with subjective wellbeing in overseas students. Amanah was measured using Amanah Scale based on theory Ash-Shiddieqy. Social Support was measured using Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and to measured subjective well being using SWLS Scale and PANAS Scale. The population of this study were 230 students and the sample obtained 144 students by using quota sampling technique. The methods for data analysis were multiple regression. The results showed significant relationship between amanah and social support with subjective wellbeing in overseas students. Amanah and social support contributed 12.6% to subjective well being.Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan antara amanah dan dukungan sosial dengan kesejahteraan subjektif pada mahasiswa perantau. Pengukuran amanah menggunakan skala amanah yang dibuat oleh peneliti berdasarkan teori dari Ash-Shiddieqy (1971). Pengukuran dukungan sosial menggunakan Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) dan pengukuran kesejahteraan subjektif menggunakan SWLS dan skala PANAS. Populasi dari penelitian ini berjumlah 230 dan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 144 mahasiswa dengan menggunakan teknik quota sampling. Proses analisis data menggunakan metode analisis regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan ada hubungan antara amanah dan dukungan sosial terhadap kesejahteraan subjektif pada mahasiswa perantau. Amanah dan dukungan sosial secara bersama-sama memberikan sumbangan efektif sebesar 12.6 % terhadap kesejahteraan subjektif.
