Abstract

English is getting more crucial to be mastered since its important part in the world nowadays.  It is not only as a means of communication but also a means transferring knowledge, news, and technology around the world. There are four basic skills in English such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, every students must have problem in learning and mastering those skill. But writing is the main issue to be discussed in this article.  In writing, some of the writer’s students feel difficult to determine the topic when they want to write, they are hardly to complete a writing paper because they run out of idea. In this case the students need to absorb some information to understand a word, including how to combine a word with the other words. Therefore the teacher should have a strategy to get the students understanding and overcome their problems.Teaching is about just how to encourage the learners to achieve their goals and other times it requires that we actually facilitate resources and foster experiences so students can learn, continue learning and love the process. It is an art of the teacher to know how to make the students able to create knowledge of their own. Brainstorming is one of the teaching techniques in writing that can encourage the students to think about the topic as many as possible. This technique is help the students to enrich their vocabularies then create an idea become a writing composition. By using this strategy the students will be able to improve their writing skill. Brainwriting is an alternative method to brainstorming that tries to encourage a more uniform participation within a group. Like brainstorming, it is designed to generate lots and lots of ideas in a short amount of time.

Abstract

This article talk about one of the fiction genre movie is a colossal epic movie. “Troy” is one of the example of epic movie. It is tell about Trojan war which based on a poem The Iliad and Odyssey by Homer. It also tells more about the heroism of Achilles (Brad Pitt) and Hector (Eric Bana). Generally, the true heroes always being honest and sincere in serve the society. However, thisepic move also shown us, that love, ideology and power relation also clear enough appear on the model of communication. The substance of this observation is the representation of love, ideology, and power relation by showing the bineary oposition that reflected in the story. This observation uses the semiotic analysis method. Analysis method is used to express the meaning of of love, ideology, and power relation of Troy movie. It is uses constructive perspective on binnary oposition and also critical literary discourse analysis, with emptive text analysis to express of love, ideology, and power relation. As shown in the film there is an opposite character of the heroism as on of the example of the data, Achilles and Hector, i.e Paris. Paris is a faint hearted person. Appears on his lack, such as small, thin body, immature, selfish and timid.

Abstract

Arabic has an important position in Islamic studies, in the development of Arabic, the language al-Qurân can be classified into classical Arabic, the language al-Qurân which developed into a literary language since the 7th century AD. Thanks to the altitude of the language al-Qurân precisely then that the experts make the standardization of the Arabic language is academic in the 3rd century H (9 M) and 4 H (10 M). Abstract

Bahasa Madura adalah bahasa yang secara aktif dipakai oleh penuturnya. Baik dalam lingkup keluarga maupun dalam lingkup publik. Namun seiring perkembangan jaman dan derasnya arus globalisasi banyak bahasa-bahasa nasional dan lokal yang sudah mengalami peregeseran bahkan kematian. Remaja adalah sekelompok penutur potensial untuk pemertahanan bahasa karena pada merekalah bahasa Madura dibebankan untuk dipertahankan. Jika ingin melihat masadepan Madura lihatlah bagaimanan remajanya menggunakan bahasa ini. Secara sederhana penelitian ini memiliki tiga fokus yaitu: Bagaimana pemakaian Bahasa Madura dalam rumah tangga oleh remaja di Pamekasan; Bagaimana pemakaian Bahasa Madura dalam pergaulan di sekolah oleh remaja di Pamekasan; dan Bagaimana pemakaian Bahasa Madura dalam komunikasi sehari-hari oleh remaja di Pamekasan. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Dalam pergaulan, remaja di tingkat SD mempunyai kecenderungan untuk memakai bahasa yang mereka pakai dalam keluarga kemudian mereka pakai lagi untuk berkomunikasi dengan teman sepergaulan di luar sekolah. Misalnya, remaja yang berkomunikasi dengan orangtuanya dengan Bahasa Madura cenderung menggunkan bahasa yang sama saat berkomunikasi dalam bergaul. Sedangkan mereka yang menggunakan bahasa Indonesia untuk berkomunikasi dengan orangtunya akan memakai bahasa yang sama dalam pergaulan dengan temannya. Ini juga dipengaruhi oleh tempat lahir dan asal orangtua. Dalam keseharian Remaja yang berkomunikasi dengan orangtuanya menggunakan bahasa Madura, maka mereka akan menggunakan bahasa Madura sebagai bahasa pengantar sehari-hari. Mereka yang berkomunikasi dengan orangtuanya menggunakan bahasa Indonesia cenderung memakai bahasa Indonesia juga untuk berkomunikasi dalam sehari-hari.

Abstract

Sebagai medium komunikasi dan alat belajar, reading menyajikan sebuah fungsi yang diperlukan dalam masyarakat. Dalam mengajari bahasa, seorang guru harus mempunyai persiapan keprofesionalan secara umum dan ilmu pengetahuan yang khusus di bidang bahasa asing yang dia ajari. Mengetahui bahwa teknik mengajar adalah penting dalam menentukan keberhasilan proses belajar-mengajar, menyajikan materi dengan efektif dan bertujuan. Guru selalu mencoba menggunakan bermacam-macam teknik untuk membantu murid belajar biasa membaca materi English dengan mudah dan dengan banyak mengerti.

Abstract

Salah satu komponen pondok pesantren adalah kitab klasik yang seringkali dikenal dengan sebutan kitab kuning. Selain bersifat naratif, banyak kitab kuning ditulis dalam genre nadzam (syair Arab) untuk memudahkan para pembelajarnya menghafal dan memahami isinya. Salah satunya yang terpanjang dan sangat populer di kalangan pondok pesantren tradisional adalah Alfiyah, karena terdiri dari seribu bait. Tulisan ini berkeinginan untuk menguraikan bagaimana pondok pesantren di Madura meresepsi berbagai kitab klasik yang berjenis nadzam tersebut.

Abstract

Error is violation from the rule of English grammar. The purpose of this study is to describe the kinds of errors and to calculate the frequency of occurrences of the types of errors made by the announcer at Brass FM Kediri. The data in this study were obtained from the English conversation program at Brass FM Kediri. The data was collected by doing 2 week observation to investigate the process of English conversation between announcer and participants of Brass FM in English Corner program. The researcher used the recording to know the errors of English speaking made by the announcer. The errors found were analyzed using Surface Strategy Taxonomy from Dulay (1982) and were classified into errors of omission, errors of addition, errors of misformation, and errors of disordering. Based on the analysis, it is show that highest frequency of occurrence of the types of errors is misformation with the percentage 47.92 %, omission with the percentage 33.33 % then followed by addition with the percentage of 16.67%, and the last percentage disordering 2.08%. From the data above that the announcer still makes errors in using grammar especially in the use of plural –s/-es, pronoun and to be. Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that the announcer of radio Brass FM in English Corner still has many problems in using grammar in conversation on English broadcast. It suggests that the language learner must study more about English grammar and not forget to pay attention the punctuation, conjunction, preposition and any kinds of tenses to make of English grammar mastery.

Abstract

This study focuses on investigating the influence of anxiety in learning English, learning strategies and English speaking ability of the students where English is their foreign language. Results of the study show that most of the respondents (82.01% = 110 respondents) belong to the second level of foreign language classroom anxiety or medium anxiety. Meanwhile, language learning strategies are applied in varied ways and there is no single strategy dominates the students’ choice. Speaking ability test shows the scores of the students range from 53 to 82 where only half number of the students achieves satisfying scores (70-82). Based on the statistical calculation using multiple regression, the value of correlation between anxiety level and speaking ability is -0.325. Therefore, the statistical hypothesis that stating anxiety of the learning of English gives significant influence to speaking ability is accepted (Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted). On the contrary, for the correlation between learning strategies and speaking ability the value is 0.104 with significant level is 0.116. The significant level is higher than 0.05 displays that there is no correlation between those two variables. Result of ANOVA is F = 8.213, sig. = 0.00 (less than 0.05). The multiple regression model of the result of this study is Ŷ = 90.057 - 0.159X1 - 0.031X2. This model indicates that the regression is significant. The result also shows that anxiety level and learning strategies give low influence to speaking ability (11.1%).

Abstract

Penggunaan label internasional akhir-akhir ini ikut merambah ke institusi pendidikan dan menjadi salah satu kebanggaan. Hal tersebut mengakibatkan krisis nasionalisme dan minimnya kesadaran historis anak bangsa serta menjadi semacam “penyakit” sosial yang jika tidak disikapi dengan penuh kewaspadaan akan berdampak luas. Sistem pendidikan pondok pesantren dengan pengantar bahasa Arab dapat menjadi tawaran solusi alternatif bagi kebangkitan ruh nasionalisme dan kesadaran historis bangsa Indonesia.

Abstract

Teaching writing is not only giving a topic, asking the students to write, and correcting the students’ tasks but it also means teaching students how to develop ideas and how to make improvements in the drafts in order to produce readable and understandable text for the readers. In other words, students’ writing ability is very much influenced by teacher’s role in class. Therefore, teachers should use purposeful and meaningful teaching strategy to help their students in developing their writing ability. This article describes the role of teacher and the use of various techniques in the process of students’writing.
