Community Response to Government Policies at The Potential Landslide Area: The Case in Kuloprogo Regency Donie, Syahrul

Abstract

The study examined the extent of community appreciation or response to government policies at the potential lanslide areas and the influencing reasons. By interviewing 35 representative informants, men and women, and divided into old, young and adult, then the data are analyzed and interpreted using the theory of action and the theory of symbolic. The results showed, the community, dominated by the farmer, were able to respond and deeply understood the government policies, particularly policies of spatial planning. This was indicated by the increasing knowledge of the community against areas that were prone to landslide and other sign that the region was going to experience a landslide. Almost all respondents said that they live in hilly areas prone to landslides, and they knew how to cope with and respond to these signs. However, government policy declaring that the community were expected to move from the area considered as dangerous was still lack of community’s attention. This was due to the undersired experiences of the community in the new area which did not make their lives better, both in terms of livelihood as well as in terms of their social-culture life.

Abstract

This research aims to design a tsunami hazard zone with the scenario of tsunami run-up height variation based on land use, slope and distance from the shoreline. The method used in this research is spatial modelling with GIS via Ordinary Kriging interpolation technique. Kriging interpolation method that is the best in this study is shown by Circular Kriging method with good semivariogram and RMSE values which are small compared to other RMSE kriging methods. The results shows that the area affected by the tsunami inundation run-up height, slope and land use. In the run-up to 30 meters, flooded areas are about 3,148.99 hectares or 20.7% of the total area of the city of Bengkulu.

Abstract

The present contribution is by no means a first attempt at considering the ethics in human activities, interactions in disaster impacted areas, but it is more the case of looking at international research that present a very particular difficulty for ethics: the notion of trans-boundary, multi-dimensional idea of one group not really belonging within another, but which will perform functions inside this second group and eventually alter, modify some of the original organs. This paper explain the reflections of the ethical consideration of international research collaboration in disaster impacted areas which are emerged from the experiences in Indonesia, New Zealand and Japan.

Abstract

Coastal city of Semarang is susceptible to the impact of coastal hazard due to its flat topographic condition. Various environmental problems are faced by Semarang involve tidal inundation, land subsidence, and floods during rainy season. This study was conducted to examine the potential economic losses caused by the sea level rise phenomenon. Distribution of inundated area mapped using Digital Elevation Model and Land Subsidence data. The Scenarios of International Panel on Climate Change (2007) sea level rises used to build a model of inundated area that notes by 2030 the rise of sea level rise at 13.4 cm. The inundated map was overlayed with landuse map to calculate the potential economic losses. The results show that the inundated area that occurred in 2030 was 1,718.2 ha with the potential economic losses Rp. 6,130 trillion. With the land subsidence scenario that happen at the area, inundated area increased to 5,171.3 ha with the eonomic potential loss about Rp. 28,724 trillion.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are as  follows: first, to investigate the contributing parameters induced land sliding in the Budong-Budong watershed, and second, to construct landslide susceptibility zonation map.  In this study, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) based on Geographical Information System (GIS) methods was used to produce map of landslide susceptibility. In this study area, more than 50% of total area were classified high (H) to very high (VH)  susceptibility landslide zone.  Mean while, 12% of total area were classified as  moderate (M)  and remaining were classified as  low (L) to very low (VL) susceptibility landslide zone. Almost area of Budong-Budong Wetershed were classified as VH and H susceptibility landslide zone underlying by Talaya (Tmtv), Lamasi (Toml) and Latimojong (Kls) Formation on the steep slope land.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the potential habitat for each species based on land use and reducing the risk of accidents animals with recommendation traffic signs “Wild Animal Crossing” on the distribution of potential habitat. Qualitative descriptive method was used. The unit of analysis is the villages along the arterial road between Wangon to Kebasen Banyumas. The results show that the potential of the habitat of each species differences , the most widely spread of potential habitat is the narrowest rats and cats and dogs are for the location of this study, and the recommendations of the traffic signs can be placed around the adjacent street or entering potential wildlife habitat with moderate and high classification.
