Abstract

Environmental issues have recently become objects of study among international scholars. At the most theoretical level, a number of scholars criticize the ability of the state-system to respond to environmental dangers but at the same time the state-centric thinking still dominating most environmental activities marked by the international environmental regime formation. The two main school of thought involved in this line of enquiry are realist perspective (or paradigm) and the ecological thinking. This article analyses these two conceptions. It aims to show that although the ecological thought present themselves as radical departure from state-centric thinking, they actually reaffirm the dominant realist perspective about the centrality of the institution of the state especially when thinking about forms of formulation able to address global environmental problems.

Abstract

Since the fall of the Soviet Union led to the end of the Cold War, democracy and capitalism have become an unchallenged ideology. In the era of globalization, global economy and free market have not directly brought about democracy, and therefore it denies the argument of globalists. As a matter of fact, globalization has increasingly marginalized the roles of state, and even it has replaced them by the non-territorial actors or the super-states, namely international institutions, multinational corporations, and private organizations. Their roles of these territorial actors not only have become so strong and dominant in economy and politics, and therefore they have the power to control the world market, but also have threatened democracy. As a result, the roles of the states are coopted to serve the interest of corporations, and are detrimental for the interest of the citizens. Therefore, conventional democracy has to be redefined because it has not been adequate any more.

Abstract

The fight against terrorism must depart from the settlement of the core of problems. One of the most important roots of terrorism today is the injustice and imbalance in the system of international relations which in turn fosters an attitude of double standards to the holders of international domination and hegemony, the US and its Western allies. Only with the creation of a new international order which is fair, then terrorism can be reduced, thus creating world peace.

Abstract

The difficulty in reconciling the Palestine and Israel conflict was because of political-ideology claims and theological claims. Theological claims in the conflict are very subjective and not easy to be solved by formal and structural diplomacy. The approach in theological side is the most dangerous engineered by Israel to occupy Palestine land. The effort to dismantle the engineering and imagination about the promised land as the form of scripture politicization still needs to be done until those facts become wider public discourse.

Abstract

Since the end of World War II, the development of American political science showed the behavioral persuasion as the dominant one. Behavioralism had many factors and its rapid growth had a great impact on the development of political studies. Even in the recent times, no one deny that the American political science is the most influential school on the study of politics all over the world. In short, comparing to the other part of the world, the development of political science in America is revolutionary rather than evolutionary. Many scientists have written about the factors causing the rapid spring of behavioralism in American Political Science. However, this work is done to examine other significant factors. The question does not begin from “why American Political Science growing rapidly?” but “Why facts show us there was a slow motion growth of political science out of America?” I think that the answer is laid on individualism as a philosophy and/or ideology. Individualism is a belief in the primacy of the individual over any social group or collective body, so it will suggest that the individual is central to any political theory or social explanation. Individualism influenced political scientists to focus the unit of analysis on the individual behavior to explain collective phenomenon. We can see then, in other parts of the world, when stable liberal-democracy based on individualism occur, the social sciences can develop well. Maybe this is another unique characteristic of political science. The growth of political science depends on its political circumstances.

Abstract

This paper rejects the determinism of the realist position. Domestic politics or the nature of the regime does influence the foreign behavior of the states, and in turn, the probability of war, peace, and international security. In supporting the liberal argument, it will be argued that the spread of democracy will contribute to the promotion of international security. The argument is based on three main reasons:first, the persuasiveness of “democratic peace” thesis, secondly, the strong evidence of the existence of the democratic peace, and, thirdly, the failure of realist critique. Following the logic, the more the states in the world become democratic, the wider “the zone of peace” will emerge and the less the likely are conflicts and war among states
