Abstract

Pot experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of Agriculture Faculty, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta and aimed to investigate the effect of soil types, varieties and  and their interaction on Fe/K, Mn/K, Cu/K and Zn/K leaf, growth, leaf protein and grain yield of rice. The experiment was set up in a 2 x 6 factorial pat- tern randomized completely block design with three replications. First factor was two soil types viz. Vertisols and Inceptisols, second factor was rice varieties viz. Cimelati, Pandan Wangi, Ciherang, Cisokan, Widas and IR 64. The result revealed that the Fe/K, Cu/K and Zn/K ratios in rice leaf was significantly affected by soil types and rice varieties. The interaction of soil and rice varieties significantly affected the leaf ratios of Fe/K, Cu/K and Zn/K, crop growth rate (CGR) and grain yield, but it was not significantly affect the Mn/K ratio and leaf protein. The leaf ratios of Fe/K, Cu/K and Zn/K, CGR and grain yield in Vertisols were significantly higher than those in Inceptisols, while Mn/K ratio and leaf protein was significantly higher in Inceptisols. The highest of grain yield was achieved by Pandan Wangi whereas the lowest of grain yield was achieved by IR 64. The lowest of grain yield was achieved by IR 64 in Inceptisols. It was affected by an imbalance of Mn/K ratio and highest of leaf protein. It could be due to the effect of Inceptisols native soil properties (lower pH, higher Mn and K) and specific characteristics of IR 64 (more responsive to low pH, higher NH +  uptake). It was also may be caused by indirect effect of urea excess and KCl fertilizers on reducing of rhizosphere pH. The Mn/K ratio was important nutrient imbalance in Inceptisols soil and rice plant. The finding of this study suggests that the research in depth which is focused on Mn/K ratio balance in Inceptisols is needed, i.e using urea and KCl application in proper rate, using another source of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers, and using specific of varieties (less responsive to NH + and more responsive to NO -).

Abstract

Designing of future approaches for the control of Fasciola gigantica infection in cattle requires an understanding of the host-parasite relationships. This study was therefore undertaken to compare the susceptibility to infection with F. gigantica between Bali and Madura cattle. Seven Bali and seven Madura cattle were infected orally with 15 metacercariae of F. gigantica twice weekly for 32 weeks. Similar observations were made on four Bali and 4 Madura cattle maintained fluke-free as controls. The study shows that there was a trend of a lower fluke burden and faecal egg counts Madura cattle than in Bali cattle. The packed cell volume (PCV) values was significantlyhigher in infected Madura than in Bali cattle (P<0,05). The increased of eosinophil cell response and the antibody isotypes imunoglobulin (Ig)G1 in Madura cattle were significantly higher than in Bali cattle (P<0,05). These varying responses represent differences in host-parasite relationships between Bali and Madura cattle and may be linked to the observed varying levels of resistance to F. gigantica infection between these host.

Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the rank of tree family in the teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) progeny test based on multi criteria analyses. Research was conducted using deductive approach by collecting data on experiment site consisting of 10 blocks. The proposed criteria and indicators were based on literature study focusing on (1) simple measurement in the field, (2) principle of management objective, and (3) basic principle of silviculture. The selected criteria were stem quality, crown condition and tree growth, and each criteria was derived into indicators and verifiers. Based on the frequency of appearance in the top 25% on each block, the top ten superior families were seedlot number 90 with 8 times, followed by seedlot number 11 and 31 with 7 times, and then seedlot number 10, 106, 124, 15, 18, 4, and 46 with 6 times, respectively.

Abstract

The Presidential power after the amandment of 1945 Constitution has decreased. Many people think thatsuch decreases are excessive because in practice, majority of the president’s policy requires approval of the Parliementary, making the President has difficulty in running the government. To avoid confusion, the researcher isinterested in conducting research related to the presidential power of the President of Indonesia compared to thepower of head of state/and or head of government in eight developed countries, namely the United States, Russia,Japan, China, Kuwait, Australia, and South Africa. In conducting the research, the researcher uses reseach methodsof juridicial, historical and comparative approaches. The result of this study indicates that Indonesian Presidentialpower is quite enormous compared to the power owns by the head of states and / or head of governments in theabove mentioned countries. Only Kuwait Amir’s power can defeat Indonesian Presidential power. The power ofKuwait Amir is similar to Indonesian Presidential power before 1945 Constitution amandment.

Abstract

Growth center is the area or region that is growing very rapidly because it is used as a development central development affecting other areas in the vicinity. Given that areas be the center of that growth is expected in the surrounding areas also affected and stimulated to advance. The aim of the research was to identify subdistricts which have the opportunity or the potential to be the centers of economic growth in Nias District and to analyze the interaction (correlation) between growth center and the hinterlands of supporting subdistricts. The data were analyzed descriptive qualitatively, using skalogram analysis in order to know the centers of regional development based on the availability of economic, social, and governmental facilities and gravitation analysis in order to estimate the attraction of a location in the regional development, compared with the other locations or with the hinterlands. The result of the analysis showed that the first growth center in Nias District is Gido Subdistrict, the second growth center is Idanogawo Subdistrict, and the third growth center is Botomuzoi Subdistrict.

Abstract

Prisoner’s sexual need has been long a major discourse in Indonesia’s national correctional system. Up to this day, such a need is yet to be ruled under any legislative products. It is fully undoubted that the absence of legal protection upon prisoner’s sexual need may cause several negative impacts, such as sexual harassment, emotional instability, and to a certain extent family brake-ups. This research aims to discern the contstruction of prisoner’s sexual need as a right from a human rights perspective, and attempts to construe a proportional mechanism in fulfilling the right. The author used qualitative approach by interviewing prisoners, corrections officers, and other related parties, in two different locations. In conclusion, this research wraps two important points, first, sexual need as a right finds its justification derived from right to privacy and family life, right to humane treatment, and right to health and proper living. Second, there is a need for the state to arrange a mechanism in fulfiling prisoner’s sexual need based on human rights norms consideration.

Abstract

This paper studied three methods of pan-sharpenning of SPOT-4 image and evaluated the quality of the results. Three pan-sharpenning methods were applied to a scene of SPOT-4 image of K/J:287/364 acquiried on 25 July 2008 by using image processing software. Those three methods were IHS-RGB, Color Normalized (Brovey), and PCA (Principle Component Analysis). For IHS-RGB and Color Normalized (Brovey) methods the formulas written in Kartasasmita were used. These formula are practical to be used in image processing software and canbe understood theoritically. Similarly for PCA (Principle Component Analysis) method on this research the values of the elements of eigenvectors, which are required for doing the transformation and inversion, are calculated before then they are used in a new more practical equation and can be inputted to image processing software. It was expected that three mathematic equations from those three methods can be implemented easily in other image processing softwares and used for other multispectral image sharpenning by panchromatic band. An assessment to test the pan-sharpenning processes quantitatively and qualitatively were conducted. A qualitative assessment had been conducted by visual interpretation of pansharpened image. Quantitative assessments of pan-sharpened image was showed by change of spectral value range of each spectral channel, measureof the slope detail of pansharpened image from several object detail and the spectral information similarity between original and pansharpened images by Q Index and Correlation Coefficient. The results of this study are practical equations for PCA, IHS-RGB and Color Normalized (Brovey) Methods; pan-sharpened of SPOT-4 image; and quality assessment of pan-sharpened of SPOT-4 image.
