Abstract

Background: Extraction has been known as a method for removing the tooth from its socket. Although extraction is frequent, the incidence of post extraction complication are commonly found, about 2,6-30,9%. Complications can inhibit wound healing and bone regeneration of socket. PRP is Platelet Rich Plasma containing growth factors that plays an important role in wound healing, induces bone regeneration and stimulates osteoprogenitor cell into osteoblast cell. Chitosan is a chitin derivate that extracted from the crab shells through deacetylation stage. Chitosan properties are osteoinductive, biocompatible, biodegradable, cell proliferation, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antitumor, and stimulates growth factors capabilities. Purpose: To analyze the combination of PRP and Chitosan gel to increase the number of osteoblast in post extraction wound of wistar rat teeth.Method: True experimental post-test only control group design was done in 28 wistar rats. Sample were divided into 4 groups: PRP gel, combination PRP and Chitosan gel, Chitosan gel and control group Povidone Iodine. Dextra Mandible incisors were extracted and treated accordingly. Number of osteoblast in post extraction socket was observed microscopically after 14 days using IHC staining. Data analyzed by using One Way ANOVA parametric test followed by Post Hoc LSD test. Results: There were statically signifcant difference between number of osteoblast in combination PRP and Chitosan gel group compare to PRP gel group (p=0,736), Chitosan gel group (p=0,402) and Povidone Iodine group (p=0,613).Conclusion: Combination PRP and Chitosan gel has a good effect in increasingnumber of osteoblast in wound healing post dental extraction

Abstract

Background: Pregnant women usually suffer from gingivitis due to an increasein progesterone and estrogen hormones followed by hypervascularization. As the result, gingiva becomes more sensitive to plaque and calculus. Pregnant women in Trimester II began to experience gingivitis and would get worse in the trimester III. As known, gingivitis in pregnant women may be affected by age of pregnancy, occupation and education level. The aim of the study was to describethe prevalence of gingivitis in pregnant women at RSUD Klungkung, related toage of pregnancy, occupation and education. Methods: This research was a descriptive study using cross sectional study approach. Sample in this study was 85 people using consecutive sampling technique. Data collection was done by giving questionnaire and screening to pregnant women to know their gingival score.Result: The results of this study showed that most of pregnant women in trimester I experienced gingivitis score 1 (57,9%), trimester II gingivitis score 2 (65,5%), and trimester III gingivitis score 3 (83,8%). Pregnant women who didnot work had more gingivitis (42%) than pregnant women who worked (37.1%).Pregnant women with lower education level experienced more gingivitis (92.8%) than pregnant women with higher education level (75%).Conclusion: The number of gingivitis in pregnant women is increasing astheir age of pregnancy, where the ginggivitis score in trimester I is better than trimester III. This result also correlated with age of pregnancy, occupation andeducationlevel.

Abstract

Background: Erythema multiforme is an acute and a self-limiting mucocutaneoushypersensitivity reaction triggered by infections and medications. The mostcommon predisposing factors for erythema multiforme is infection with herpessimplex virus. Herpes associated erythema multiforme (HAEM) is an acuteexudative dermatic and mucosal disease caused by the infecting herpes simplexvirus. Most common ages is in childhood.Case and management: We report a case of recurrent herpes-associatederythema multiforme in a 23-year-old female patient, with crustae lesion in thelips and in pain. The patient had history of HSV infection. The patient had afever and prodromal before the lesion emerge. And the cutaneous lesion wasmistaken with the pimpleacne. Conclusions: Although the etiology of EM is still often unknown, infections withherpes simplex virus have been implicated as common predisposing a possibleprecipitating factor. This case illustrates the association of the occurrence of EMwith a herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection and how to managed the lesion

Abstract

Background: Class II malocclusion prevalence is about 70%. Class II malocclusion could be caused by retrognatic mandible and normal maxilla, prognatic maxilla and normal mandible or combination of retrognatic mandible and prognatic maxilla. Class II malocclusion can be treated with fixed or removable functional appliance on advancing mandibular length. Aim: To examine the effect of functional appliance in mandibular length. Method: Age of sample is ranging from 7-13 years old treated using removable functional appliance with proper and complete medical record. In this research, a purposive sampling method was used. The mandibular length changes of samples were evaluated and analyzed with statistical computerized system. Result: The research reveals that total mandibular length was changed by 7.09 mm while mandibular corpus length was changed by 3.27 mm. Based on paired t-test, these results are found to be statistically significant (p< 0.05). Conclusion: The removable functional appliance on samples with Class II malocclusion contributes a significant effect both for total mandibular and corpus mandibular length.
