Abstract

Islam is a name religion with clear explanation based on the arguments that are normative and historically, the Qur’an, Hadith and history of preaching Prophet Muhammad when spread this religion. Of course this naming is permanent so it will not be changed until the end of time later. But for Wilfreid Cantwell Smith and Muhammad Shahrur which are the thinkers of the West and the Muslim Orientalist Liberals are trying to recontruction naming them. For Smith, Islam is only submission to God to be obedient and submissive to the shari’ah religion are shared by humans, as judging that the word Islam is derived from the word aslama means surrender or submission. Meanwhile, according Shahrur, Islam is taught by the shari’ah of the Prophet Muhammad who was also taught by the previous Prophets such as Abraham, Moses, Jesus and others. So according Shahrur Muslim person can be said without having to follow and believe in the Shari’ah as taught by the Prophet Muhammad. From this a second thought leaders cause various problems, such as Islamic religious truth is relative or inclusive or decontructed concept and the Shari’ah of Islam. So in this paper the authors will describe how Smith and Shahrur view of the meaning of Islam, the background of their thinking and their implications for the Islamic religion, and a refutation of their thinking.

Abstract

A thought to have an important role to someone. If true thinking it will affect a good understanding leads to attitudes and behavior. However, if the faulty thinking that very result in the destruction of the attitudes and behavior and may even lead to the destruction of one’s Islamic faith. For a Muslim, thinking of concepts related to faith must rely on the descriptions that have been described by Allah SWT and His Messenger and do not necessary diligence in achieving it as the judge actions in fiqh. Because the truth related to faith is not what will go in or unreasonable, scientific or unscientific. But the truth of faith is related to what are established Allah SWT and His Messenger, although not satisfying logic and can not sensed. Related to the above, this paper tries to explain an example of a false thought linked to al-Qur’an faith brought by a prominent modernist Islamic thinker, Nasr Hamid Abu Zaid. Because, to know the truth can sometimes be achieved after knowing a falsehood.

Abstract

Women have a respectable position in Islam. Besides already mentioned in some verses of the Qur’an, the virtue of women is also much expressed through the words of the Prophet SAW. However, it will be different when viewed from the Shites perspective. the sect, that claimed that the entire thought derived from the Ahl al-Bayt turned out to have a different view with regard to the position of women. The discussion in this paper is more emphasis on the study of Turath. Turath study is intended study of classic books written by scholars of shi’ah. The research focused on women’s rights in various aspects. The conclusion that can be drawn from this paper turns Shites tend to demean women. From the side of the faith, Shite women will certainly not obtain a higher degree of faith than men. Starts from this, they deny some rights that should be owned by women. Rights are neglected, among others: the right to religious education and the public, rights in muamalah (relationship), and the right in the household. Especially, when women are faced with a belief in the urgency of Mut’ah, then by itself be marginalized women. Due to Mut’ah are supported by the shariah, actually is a form of insult the dignity of women.

Abstract

Todays religious pluralism has become a social fact that struck Indonesia, sovereign state with a population that consists of various religious backgrounds. This religious diversity allegedly has led to a wide variety of conflicts have snatch many human lives. Based on this phenomenon, many proficient from various disciplines trying to find a solutions or approaches to resolve that problems. One of solution that is carried by applying the theory of religious pluralism which predicted powerful enough to reduce the conflict between religious communities. So the religious people in Indonesia can live together in peace, secure, sobriety, tolerance, and mutual respect. Pass through religious pluralism is also expected that no religious believers who think that their religion is the most correct. While other religions wrong, the obeyers must repent, in otherwise would receive doom, inserted to hell, and so on. A glance, the idea of religious pluralism looks like a promising solution in order to reconcile the religious community, containing expectations and human values are sublime. But who would have thought, behind it all religious pluralism was not the right solution to reconcile the religious community. He even enemy of religions. The religious pluralism stow a lot of problems, including the theological problem.

Abstract

Islam is not only religion but also a political and legal ideology that has been realized in a world of power and widespread in many countries to this day. Islam showed the whole culture that includes religion and state which is based on the concept of the state and the pure Islamic teachings. The relationship between Islam and the State in the context of Indonesian-ness has always been an interesting thing to be discussed. Mutual attraction between the Nationalists Islam and the Secular Nationalists still continues to this day. Religious life in Indonesia is unique. In the constitution that was approved since the inception of this state, is still being debated in the realm of application. The application of moral values perfectly into the goal for the state and statehood. On the other hand, the life of the compound causing some groups want to live in a liberal and secular. System based on their assumption, making Indonesia as a secular state can accommodate minorities. That will create an ideal state of life. However, the Indonesian constitution that exists today asserted that Indonesia is not a secular state.

Abstract

The spread of the feminist movement in the West has forced women to rebel against a system that is considered culturally and structurally discredit their existence. When feminism entered into Islam, this movement has a significant impact and tends to destructive. Through feminist theology, teachings that have been established but it is considered contrary to the spirit of equality will be sued. Feminist theologians questioned some of the teachings of Islam that has been established, such as the interpretation of the Qur’an made by the mufasir because of potential gender bias. The reason is, when the man interprets the Qur’an, the women feeling excluded and the more dominant maleness is the nature and importance. Strangely, they do not mind at all when there are feminist activists from among men. View suspicious of mufasir is certainly wrong. Because the interpretation procedure under consideration is not sex but a quality of faith and science commentators. In addition, the tradition of criticism, will narrow the emergence of interpretations are oriented to personal interests and discredit women. Whereas the interpretations results of mufassir actually much glory to women. Therefore efforts feminist theologians sue mufassir actually is not a scientific claim usually done in a scientific study, but an attempt of shari’ah deconstruction for Muslim women who want to follow in the footsteps of West women.

Abstract

Is there similarities between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam? If there, where is the similarity? And if so, why they are not be united, would not it be more powerful and far reaching if they are united? Then how about the position and posture or attitude of these religions on the issue of monotheism, while the pluralists use it as a means to spread understanding of religious pluralism? The pluralists are also using the issue to gain legalization that Judaism, Christianity and Islam is actually same in the concept of God, the same God worshiped single or monotheist. It’s mean, the three religions in essence no significant differences. So that it can together accept the truth of the concept of God of each religion without blame. This simple paper will examine that issue with a few critical questions. The critical questions aiming to find an obvious point, it is true the assumption that the three Semitic religions are monotheistic and can be united under the shelter of monotheism. At the end of this article will be explained how the position of three religions toward monotheistic.

Abstract

In the Western world Gender accused as family destroyer movement. This Feminists ideology encourages the women to leave the family, in fact looking at the family as an institution of oppression against women. However in Indonesia, Gender serve family empowerment program that Gender Perspective Family Education. Gender Perspective Family Education is a government program that is based on Presidential Instruction Number. 9 of 2000 on gender mainstreaming. As awareness effort of understanding the rights and obligations of male roles and women. The program is integrated through life skills education for justice and gender equality in the family. Yet the program adopted from foreign concept turned out to have some confusion. First, the using of word gender plagiarized from some Western leaders was necessary to attempt to equalize men and women in all fields. Second, the gender equality as a goal of Gender Perspective Family Education is contrary to the reality of human life, biologically and religion. Third, the concept of natural and unnatural taught by this program seeks to abolish the nature of women as mothers. Fourth, the program negates religious element in the learning process, whereas the families in Indonesia can not be separated from religious element. Thus it was very clear that Gender Perspective Family Education is not a step empowering the families but the step endanger the family.

Abstract

Sunna is one of Islamic legislation sources, more precisely it is positioned on the second position as a source of law. It’s also served as explanatory of the verses of the Qur’an. With this position, the existence of sunnah is very important in Islam. Unfortunately the movement to reject the truth of sunnah (ingkar sunnah) never fade. One figure who aggressively towards reconstruction concept of sunnah is Muhammad Syahrur. He proposed the concept of reading the text in accordance with the existence of the times, or also called by a contemporary readings text model. The problem is this concept results confusion in understanding religious texts. So if explored more deeply, the proposed concept by Syahrur is not appropriate when applied to understanding Islamic scientific literatures. This simple writing is trying to reveal in details of the confusion in Syahrur thought. The discussion will cite the arguments that are used by Syahrur in order to support the concept. The author tried to explain that Syahrur understanding toward arguments is not appropriate. Besides, the author also cites some of the opinions of scholars who criticize the concept of Syahrur. So that at the end of the discussion the confusion and discrepancy reading of the concept proposed by Syahrur will be revealed clearly.

Abstract

When the term hermeneutics and ta’wil coupled, there will be a controversial opinion. Neither of the Muslims as the owner term ta’wil, or any of a group of owners of hermeneutics. Some say hermeneutics and ta’wil no different alias exactly the same, so the use of hermeneutics together with the user function ta’wil. However, others do not think so. They consider far different hermeneutics ta’wil. This difference is seen from different sides of the two. In terms, history, object of study as well as the methodology applied in interpreting a text, particularly the scriptural text. And in the Islamic world it self, hermeneutics has been recommended to become the new interpretation as a replacement method of interpretation and ta’wil method is considered old-fashioned. All that problems above is what attracted the attention of the writer to examine critically, objectively and fairly to produce conclusions which of the two groups most worthy justified. Do hermeneutics and ta’wil the same? And could it be used as a method hermeneutic interpretation of the Qur’an? Those questions will be answered in this paper is clear, straightforward and pithy and of course with all the shortcomings writer.
