Abstract

ABSTRACT: Increased income and healthy lifestyle trend encourage people to switch to consuming non-organic food products to organic food products. This encourages producers in developing organic vegetable business. This research was conducted for the development of organic vegetable business by using value chain analysis. Respondent determination was done by census as many as 30 farmers of organic farming at MulyoSantoso Farmer Group in Malang City, and the determination of merchant respondents using snowball sampling. The results show that farmers earn the smallest margin compared to other actors this is because the price received by farmers is determined by the trader. Organic vegetable marketing channel there are four kinds of channels, where farmers who can sell directly to consumers will get the highest profit. This is also related to the efforts of farmers in increasing the added value in processing vegetables into chips and sauces, where farmers are able to increase added value then the profits are also increased. The results of Benchmarking and Upgrading indicate that increasing the added value and capability of farmers to increase production capacity and harvesting the utilization of technology needed to reduce losses post-harvest.

Abstract

The paper is a survey of available literature on savings-income functions in developing countries. It gives critical examination of some of the major theories underlying savings and income functions. In doing this, the paper highlighted the concept of savings and some empirical studies done in the area of savings-income relationships and their findings as well as economic implications of the findings. The import of the paper stems from the fact that domestic savings of which household savings is an important component has contributed immensely to the economic transformation of some economies and the determinants of such savings well researched. Hence, understanding the theoretical underpinnings of the savings-income relationships would pave way for further studies to be conducted in Ghana, thereby, replicating such success stories. This is because a better understanding of the savings-income relationship will contribute to the formulation of appropriate policies for savings mobilisation, thereby improving upon local capital formation capacity. Moreover, a good knowledge gained of the savings-income phenomenon particularly at the rural household level in Ghana will give the monetary authorities a fair idea of how the rural economy operates and how to make improvements in this sector to enable its integration into the mainstream financial system.

Abstract

Low productivity due to the inability of farmers to allocate inputs and technology in full, resulting in lower of production. The present study has estimated the technical and scale efficiencies of cayenne pepper producing, found out the trend production of farmers and knew the projected inputs that must be adopted by farmers. The study is in Pagu village, Pagu Distric, Kediri Regency, Province of East Java. Primary data collected by interview cayenne farmers who became member of the farmers group. The data was analyzed with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) with VRS assumption and input-oriented.  The results show that cayenne pepper farming on the site research technically inefficient (CRSTE = 0,482) due to the low efficiency of scale (SE = 0,509), while the value of pure efficiency already high enough (VRSTE = 0,947). There are 4 farmers with SE = 1 and 60 farmers with SE < 1. Most of the farms have been observed have increasing return to scale trend production.
