Abstract

This study aims to determine the minimum spanning tree of a complete graph K_n with weight constraints and completion using the cutting plane method. The cutting plane method is one of the algorithms included in the exact method. This algorithm works by reducing the solution area so that it becomes narrower. As a result, the feasible solutions that will be investigated become less and less. This is because the cutting plane method works based on the optimal linear programming solution of relaxation solved by the simplex method. In this paper we give illustration of the algorithm applied for two cases, one for K_4 and one for K_5.

Abstract

English Mathematics course mostly deals with comprehension questions, grammar and vocabulary related to the field of Mathematics. The goal is that students have the confidence in communicating using English as well as utilize various sources of English teaching materials. But in reality, they usually experience several problems as the medium of instruction changes from their mother tongue to another language. This phenomenon in the case of Mathematics education brings the consequences faced by Mathematics educators. This paper describes the understanding of Mathematical concepts in English textbooks (Fraction) on the students of English Mathematics Study Course of Mathematics Education of Madura University. The data that used in this research is the result of the translation scripts of students at the Mathematics education department on the fractional concepts in English textbooks, observations on the student presentation and interviews. The result of this research are, Subjects still have not been able to understand the meaning of fractions that are linked in real objects and clear Mathematical models, subjects still used word-for-word translation, translating without providing meaningful information and also lack of vocabulary.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of applying the contextual approach to improving students mathematical problem-solving competencies. Quasi-experimental research used with the design of non-equivalent control group. The population in this study were entire students of class VIII SMP Negeri 3 Lembang. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Experimental learning class with the contextual approach and control class with the scientific approach. The instrument used is a problem-solving test. Data analysis was done using t-test. The results showed that the improvement of students mathematical problem-solving skills in the experimental class was better than the students in the control class.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are: (1) To know which learning model give better learning to result between ATI teaching model with CTL, ATI and conventional approach, (2) to know which gives better learning result among students who have discipline of high, medium and low (3) To know whether there is interaction between learning model and learning discipline to mathematics learning achievement.The type of research is quasi experimental research (quasi experimental). Instruments used were mathematics achievement test, questionnaire, and documentation instrument. The data were analyzed by using two-way variance analysis with unequal cells.The conclusions of this study are (1) Learning outcomes with ATI learning model with CTL approach is better than ATI and conventional model, while the ATI learning model is better than conventional. (2) Students learning outcomes with higher learning discipline are better than those with moderate and low self-discipline, while students with discipline are better than those with low discipline. (3) There is no interaction between the learning model and the discipline of learning on mathematics learning achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the ability of adaptive reasoning of junior high school students in Pontianak, which is divided into categories of secondary, middle and lower schools. This research is descriptive research with research form is survey. Sampling in this research using stratified cluster random sampling technique. Of the 23 existing schools thereafter were randomly assigned to each school to represent high school, middle class, and low school. Categorization of schools based on the value of students National Exam. Based on the result of research analysis, it is found that the average of adaptive reasoning ability of junior high school students in Pontianak is 42,96% with enough category. While the average adaptive reasoning ability of high, medium and low students is 48.82% (enough), 41.06% (enough), and 39% (enough), respectively.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out (1)the improvement of the ability in creative mathematical thinking, (2) the improvement of the ability in reasoning and creative mathematical thinking for high, medium, and low level students. and (3) the interactions between students’ preliminary ability and the learning approach in improving the reasoning and creative mathematical thinking. By involving PBL in learning requires students to think creatively to generate new ideas in learning. The design of the research was quasi experiment. The sample were the student of VIII.9 at SMPN 31 Padang and the students of VIII.1 at SMPN 25Padang.The result of the research showed that (1) the improvement of students’ ability in creative mathematical thinking for those who were taught by using PBL was better than those who were taught by using the conventional learning, (2) the improvement of students’ ability in creative mathematical thinking for the high, medium, and low level students who were taught by using PBL was better than those who were taught by using the conventional learning, and (3) there was interaction between the preliminary ability and the learning approach to students’ creative mathematical thinking ability.

Abstract

The problem in this research is the low of mathematics learning result of grade V student of SD Negeri 6 Metro Utara. The purpose of this research was to know the influence of realistic mathematics education (RME) approach to the result of V grade student mathematics. The type of the research was experiment research. The design used in this research was quasi experimental design. Population research is all of students V grade, the sample consists 26 students VA class and 27 student VB class. The determination of research sample used purposive sample. Data collection tools used questionnaires and cognitive tests. The data analysis was used t-test pooled varians. The learning results of this research was limited only to the cognitive domain. The result showed that there was a significant influence on the application of realistic mathematics education (RME) approach to the students mathematics learning outcomes.

Abstract

Every student generally has multiple intelligences with different level, one of which is visual-spatial intelligence shown by the ability to visualize an object. To acquire this kind of intelligence one can utilize media. This research, aiming at developing such a media, uses ADDIE model which is designed based on printed media which then followed by designing the electronic ones. Subjects of the research are 9 students selected by random technique. The research result electronic quiz media which can be utilized by students in interpreting 3D objects into 2D ones or vice versa.

Abstract

This research aims to develop worksheets students (worksheets) based on this Mathematics Education (RME) to improve the matematical ability of elementary school student. The subject of this research is the students of class V Elementary School of Muneng and students in grade 5 Elementary School of Pulerejo 3. The type of this research is the Research and Development, with development model Four-D (4D), which is divided into 4 stages, namely : stage defining (define), stage design (design), development stage (· develop), spreading stage (disseminate). This research done only until the development phase (develop). The products of this research is a Worksheet Students (worksheets) based on this Mathematics Education (RME) a syllabus, denunciating, worksheets, and THB through Fax Banking. The results of the study showed that the average validity is 82,689% stated valid, the results of the average convenience of a limited test is 88,75% and field tests is 80.7% stated practical, and the results of the average effectiveness of limited test is 89,33% and field tests 86% is declared effective. Based on the results of research that the students work sheet (worksheets) based on this Mathematics Education (RME) on the matter arose space stated valid, practical, and effective and improve the matematical ability of elementary school student so that it can be used in the mathematics teaching.

Abstract

This research is aimed to create a learning trajectory of linear functions concept using mathematical modeling. The applied learning approach is the Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs). Design research was chosen as the research method consisting of three main phases; preliminary design, teaching experiments, and retrospective analysis. This research was conducted in class X in a public senior high school in Palembang. The result showed the design activity can encourage students to look at the form of modeling (charts/schemes/equation) that students make themself. Through steps on mathematical modeling takes students into the definition of the power to a linear functions, so the students had the idea in providing recommendations to solve real problems in life.
