Abstract

AbstractIt is undeniable that English is an important international language and there could be some background variables influencing English proficiency. Therefore, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta as the context of the study regulates that all students take an English proficiency test once they are accepted and must achieve 450 for non-English departments and 500 for English studies before they graduate. Having 12 faculties of Islamic and non-Islamic studies, it is interesting to measure whether faculty as a background variable matters. In addition, female as another background variable has been widely found to have better achievement in language, and therefore this study is also intended to investigate whether gender is a contributing factor to students’ English proficiency. The population was all students of UIN Jakarta year 2017, which data of 5089 students’ English proficiency scores, faculties, and gender were collected through the information technology center. The descriptive analysis reveals that the lowest score is 240 while that highest one is 570 and the mean score is 383. The ANOVA analysis reports significant differences among faculties: the Faculty of Medicine achieves the highest score (M = 429) while the Faculty of Ushuluddin attains the lowest (M = 365). In addition, female students, as yielded by t-test analysis, are found to have significantly higher English proficiency score. The findings implies the need to pay more attention to Islamic-related faculties having lower scores and to consider English proficiency score as an enrolment requirement especially for the faculty of Medicine. AbstrakTidak bisa dipungkiri bahwa Bahasa Inggris sangat penting dan ada beberapa faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap kecapakan berbahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta sebagai konteks studi ini mewajibkan semua mahasiswa yang diterima untuk mengikuti tes kecakapan berbahasa Inggrisd dan harus mencapai skor 450 untuk mahasiswa di luar prodi Bahasa Inggris dan 500 untuk prodi Bahasa Inggris sebelum mereka lulus. Dengan 12 fakultas baik studi Islam maupun non-Islam, menjadi menarik untuk melihat apakah fakultas sebagai sebuah variabel memiliki pengaruh. Selain itu, jender (perempuan) sebagai variabel lain sudah banyak ditemukan oleh studi lain memiliki prestasi yang lebih unggul dalam kecakapan berbahasa, dan oleh karena itu studi ini juga bertujuan untuk mengukur apakah gender merupakah faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap kecapakan berbahasa Inggris. Populasi studi ini adalah mahasiswa UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta angkatan 2017, di mana data skor English Proficiency Test, asal fakultas dan jender sejumlah 5089 mahasiswa berhasil dikumpulkan dan Pustipanda. Dari analisis deskriptif statistik ditemukan bahwa skor terendah adalah 240 sedangkan tertinggi adalah 570 dan nilai rata-ratanya sebesar 383. Hasil analisis ANOVA menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan diantara fakultas, di mana Fakultas Kedokteran memiliki nilai rata-rata tertinggi (429) sementara Fakultas Ushuluddin memiliki nilai rata-rata terendah (365). Mahasiswa (perempuan), sebagaimana ditunjukkan oleh hasil analisis t-test, memiliki nilai rata-rata yang secara signifikan lebih tinggi dibanding mahasiswa (laki-laki).How to Cite : Azkiyah, S.,N. Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed at analyzing School of Master Teacher (SMT) training in developing teacher's pedagogic competence. This study applied a qualitative approach within the framework of case study research. The data was collected through documentation, observation, and interviews. The results showed that SMT training consisted of lectures, social projects, and Classroom Action Research (CAR). Secondly, the training was able to improve teachers’ pedagogic competence with excellent results. 22 of 33 teachers showed accomplished pedagogic competence. While, 9 teachers performed a very good level of the competence in their instruction, 1 teacher gained a medium level, and only 1 teacher received a poor mark.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pelatihan School of Master Teacher (SMT) dalam mengembangkan kompetensi pedagogik guru. Penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan kualitatif dalam kerangka penelitian studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui dokumentasi, observasi, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan SMT terdiri dari ceramah, proyek sosial, dan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Kedua, pelatihan ini mampu meningkatkan kompetensi pedagogik guru dengan hasil yang sangat baik. 22 dari 33 guru menunjukkan kompetensi pedagogik yang baik. Sementara, 9 guru menunjukkan tingkat kompetensi yang sangat baik dalam pengajaran mereka, 1 guru memperoleh tingkat sedang, dan hanya 1 guru yang mendapat nilai buruk. Abstract

AbstractInternational students were frequently reported of culture shock issues when entering a new cultural environment. Cultural knowledge was often treated as an addendum which focused on learning facts about the target country. This article demonstrated culture shock that experienced by 7 international students, and also reviewed intercultural communicative language teaching (ICLT) in Indonesian language classrooms practiced by 6 language practitioners from 3 different universities in China. Using findings that emerged from a series of one-to-one interviews, the research explored practitioners’ current perspective of ICLT and how these understandings influenced their practices, including teaching materials, methods, and activities. The researcher discussed the possible causes of the status quo of ICLT in China, and went on to put forward suggestions that ICLT should be promoted in foreign language teaching as a successful mediator of intercultural dimension.AbstrakMahasiswa internasional sering dilaporkan tentang masalah kejutan budaya ketika memasuki lingkungan budaya baru. Pengetahuan budaya sering diperlakukan sebagai tambahan yang berfokus pada mempelajari fakta tentang negara sasaran. Artikel ini menunjukkan kejutan budaya yang dialami oleh 7 siswa internasional, dan juga mengulas pengajaran bahasa komunikatif antarbudaya (ICLT) di ruang kelas bahasa Indonesia yang dipraktikkan oleh 6 praktisi bahasa dari 3 universitas berbeda di Tiongkok. Menggunakan temuan yang muncul dari serangkaian wawancara satu-ke-satu, penelitian mengeksplorasi perspektif praktisi saat ini tentang ICLT dan bagaimana pemahaman ini mempengaruhi praktik mereka, termasuk bahan ajar, metode, dan kegiatan. Peneliti membahas kemungkinan penyebab status quo ICLT di Cina, dan kemudian mengajukan saran bahwa ICLT harus dipromosikan dalam pengajaran bahasa asing sebagai mediator sukses dimensi lintas budaya. Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to develop scale instruments that can be used to identify potentials in relation to the readiness of students to enter the workforce with very high commissioning characteristics. The study was conducted at SMK Negeri 57 South Jakarta, using a simple random technique for 135 students. Data were analyzed using a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with the SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) method. The findings of the study show that: (1) Steps to develop a valid and reliable social intelligence scale instrument are; synthesis, construct, type of instrument, instrument lattice, instrument items, theoretical validation, trial, calculate validity and reliability, instrument assembly. (2) The dimensions and indicators underlying the concept of social intelligence scale are; component of social awareness (dimensions of basic empathy, dimensions of alignment, empathic accuracy, social understanding), components of social facilities (dimensions of synchronization, self-appearance, influence, concern). (3) Calculation of instrument validity using total gain correlation formula, Pearson product moment with a significance level of 0.05; r table = 0.176. (4) Instrument reliability is α = 0.858.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan instrumen skala yang dapat digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi potensi dalam relasinya dengan kesiapan siswa untuk memasuki dunia kerja dengan karakteristik commissioning yang sangat tinggi. Penelitian dilakukan di SMK Negeri 57 Jakarta Selatan, menggunakan teknik acak sederhana untuk 135 siswa. Data dianalisis menggunakan Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) dengan metode SEM (Structural Equation Modeling). Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Langkah-langkah untuk mengembangkan instrumen skala kecerdasan sosial yang valid dan dapat diandalkan adalah; sintesis, konstruk, jenis instrumen, instrumen kisi, item instrumen, validasi teoretis, percobaan, menghitung validitas dan reliabilitas, perakitan instrumen. (2) Dimensi dan indikator yang mendasari konsep skala kecerdasan sosial adalah; komponen kesadaran sosial (dimensi empati dasar, dimensi keselarasan, akurasi empatik, pemahaman sosial), komponen fasilitas sosial (dimensi sinkronisasi, penampilan diri, pengaruh, kepedulian). (3) Perhitungan validitas instrumen menggunakan rumus korelasi total gain, Pearson product moment dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,05; r tabel = 0,176. Abstract

AbstractMany students have found the difficulties to give proper evidence scientifically. Therefore, it is necessary to provide the learning approach model which guides students to argue scientifically on the laboratory work writing namely science writing heuristic (SWH). In this research, we tried to describe the quality of students scientific argumentation on acid-base and buffer solution laboratory work writing through mixed methods embedded concurrent. The research data was obtained through assessment rubric of ability scientific argumentation SWH formatted and field notes. The overall of ability scientific argumentation was moderate (63.60%).  From this research, we found that laboratory work writing with laboratory report SWH formatted can improve students’ ability on their scientific argumentation.AbstrakBanyak pelajar telah menemukan kesulitan untuk memberikan bukti yang tepat secara ilmiah. Oleh karena itu, perlu untuk menyediakan model pendekatan pembelajaran yang memandu pelajar untuk berdebat secara ilmiah tentang penulisan kerja laboratorium yaitu heuristik penulisan sains (SWH). Dalam penelitian ini, kami mencoba mendeskripsikan kualitas argumentasi ilmiah pelajar pada penulisan kerja laboratorium larutan asam-basa dan buffer melalui metode campuran yang disatukan secara bersamaan. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui rubrik penilaian kemampuan argumentasi ilmiah SWH yang diformat dan catatan lapangan. Keseluruhan argumentasi ilmiah kemampuan adalah sedang (63,60%). Dari penelitian ini, kami menemukan bahwa penulisan kerja laboratorium dengan laporan laboratorium yang diformat SWH dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pelajar dalam argumentasi ilmiah mereka.How to Cite : Firmansyah, R. Abstract

AbstractFrom Central Statistics Agency, the total number of primary schools in Indonesia are 147,536 which most of them have not got any good learning outcomes especially in English. This study aims to determine the effect of Problem Based Learning method and students' self-confidence in English learning outcomes. This research was conducted on the fourth grade students of Al-Fath Primary School, South Tangerang  Indonesia, with the number of students as many as 4 classes consisting of  96 students, from the population of 120 students. The method used in this research is the experimental method with the design of treatment design by level 2 x 2. The results showed that: 1) English learning result between students who taught using Problem Based Learning method is higher than Expository method, 2) There is interaction effect between Problem Based Learning method with students' self confidence, 3) For students who have high confidence, English learning outcomes taught using the Problem Based Learning method is higher than taught using the  Expository method, 4) For students a low level of confidence, English learning outcomes of students taught using the Problem Based Learning method is lower than the Expository method.AbstrakDari data Badan Pusat Statistik, jumlah sekolah dasar di Indonesia adalah 147.536, sebagian   besar   sekolah tersebut belum mendapatkan hasil pembelajaran yang baik terutama dalam bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini   bertujuan   untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode Problem Based Learning  dan kepercayaan diri siswa terhadap   hasil belajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar Al-Fath, Tangerang Selatan, dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 4 kelas yang terdiri dari 96 siswa, dari populasi 120 siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimental dengan perancangan desain faktorial level 2 x 2. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa:  1) Hasil belajar bahasa Inggris  siswa yang diajar menggunakan metode Problem Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada  yang diajar menggunakan metode Ekspositori,   2) Ada pengaruh interaksi antara metode Problem Based Learning dengan kepercayaan diri siswa,   3) Bagi siswa yang memiliki kepercayaan diri tinggi, hasil belajar bahasa Inggris  yang diajar menggunakan metode Problem Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada menggunakan metode metode Ekspositori, 4) Bagi  siswa   yang   memiliki   tingkat   kepercayaan yang   rendah, hasil   pembelajaran  bahasa Inggris   yang   diajar   menggunakan  metode   Problem   Based   Learning   hasilnya   lebih      rendah daripada yang menggunakan metode pembelajaran Ekspositori. Abstract

AbstractSome teachers use ICT as a medium for teaching by using slide presentations. Many others use Information and communication technology (ICT)  as a teaching media to develop the students’ independent learning. The purpose of this research is to reveal: what ICT applied in teaching English in Kalimantan, how to apply ICT in teaching English in Kalimantan, and what barriers factor in developing language skills through ICT utilization in Kalimantan. This is a qualitative descriptive study that attempts to describe the use of ICT in English teaching in Kalimantan. The subjects of this study are English teachers in three provinces in Kalimantan; East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan. Some instruments were used, including: interviews, observation, and documentation. Miles and Hubberman models are used for data analysis. The results show that: first, the English teachers use ICT in English classes in Kalimantan although it is very limited, since they are only familiar to use multimedia. Meanwhile, E-Media, E-Learning, E-Library, and Web-based Communities are rarely used. Secondly, the teachers of madrasah Aliyah in English teaching in Kalimantan more often use LCD projector by using a song or film in the laptop. Third, some obstacles in the application of ICT in teaching English are the ICT equipment problem, limited internet access, lack of the utilization of applications in cellphones, and age constraints.AbstrakBeberapa guru menggunakan Teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK)sebagai media untuk mengajar dengan menggunakan slide presentasi. Banyak orang lain menggunakan TIK sebagai media pengajaran untuk mengembangkan pembelajaran mandiri siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan: apa TIK yang diterapkan dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris di Kalimantan, bagaimana menerapkan TIK dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris di Kalimantan, dan apa faktor penghambat dalam mengembangkan keterampilan bahasa melalui pemanfaatan TIK di Kalimantan. Ini adalah studi deskriptif kualitatif yang mencoba menggambarkan penggunaan TIK dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris di Kalimantan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Inggris di tiga provinsi di Kalimantan; Kalimantan Timur, Kalimantan Selatan, dan Kalimantan Utara. Beberapa instrumen digunakan, termasuk: wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Model Miles dan Hubberman digunakan untuk analisis data. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa: pertama, guru bahasa Inggris menggunakan TIK di kelas bahasa Inggris di Kalimantan meskipun sangat terbatas, karena mereka hanya terbiasa menggunakan multimedia. Sementara itu, E-Media, E-Learning, E-Library, dan Komunitas berbasis web jarang digunakan. Kedua, para guru madrasah Aliyah dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris di Kalimantan lebih sering menggunakan proyektor LCD dengan menggunakan lagu atau film di laptop. Ketiga, beberapa kendala dalam penerapan TIK dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris adalah masalah peralatan TIK, akses internet yang terbatas, kurangnya pemanfaatan aplikasi dalam ponsel, dan batasan usia. Abstract

AbstractThe result of this study aims to determine the patterns of scientific and Islamic integration on the curriculum of study programs applying the Indonesian National Qualification Framework, or commonly called KKNI. This study is conducted by using qualitative approach while utilizing document, field observation, and interview as the data collection techniques of this study. Generally, integrated lesson plans with Islamic and Indonesian values in the curriculum of study programs at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in which based on KKNI is still not well-documented. The suitability among ‘graduate profiles’ as the identity of each graduate program was still not proportional directly to the learning achievements or learning outcomes in which has became the reference of the learning implementation. The vision of integration, developed by the university’s stakeholders, has not been well-implemented, either in written documents or in implementation. Nevertheless, in the implementation of learning, most of the study programs, have already integrated the science, Islamic and Indonesian values, both in scientific contexts—for instance, applied in the learning methods, in teaching materials, in the lecture activities—and in the utilization of the Qur’an as one of the sources of lectures.AbstrakHasil penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola integrasi keilmuan dan keislaman pada kurikulum program studi yang menerapkan Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia, atau yang biasa disebut KKNI. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif sambil memanfaatkan dokumen, observasi lapangan, dan wawancara sebagai teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini. Secara umum, rencana pembelajaran terpadu dengan nilai-nilai Islam dan Indonesia dalam kurikulum program studi di Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah di mana berdasarkan KKNI masih belum terdokumentasi dengan baik. Kesesuaian antara 'profil lulusan' sebagai identitas setiap program pascasarjana masih belum sebanding secara langsung dengan prestasi belajar atau hasil pembelajaran di mana telah menjadi referensi dari pelaksanaan pembelajaran. Visi integrasi, yang dikembangkan oleh para pemangku kepentingan universitas, belum diimplementasikan dengan baik, baik dalam dokumen tertulis atau dalam implementasi. Namun demikian, dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran, sebagian besar program studi, telah mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai sains, Islam dan Indonesia, baik dalam konteks ilmiah - misalnya, diterapkan dalam metode pembelajaran, bahan ajar, dalam kegiatan kuliah - dan dalam pemanfaatan Alquran sebagai salah satu sumber kuliah.  How to Cite : Sofyan, A., Fauzan., Sayuti, W. Abstract

AbstractHigher education plays an important role in many developing countries. Graduates are being equipped with professional knowledge and skills to fulfil the demands of the labour market in a knowledge economy. Malaysia is amongst those developing nations that have looked to advanced economies to provide a model of mass higher education which would raise educational levels and national income. Since the 1990s, therefore, the government has been expanding the higher education sector and broadening access to higher education institutions. Its goal is to boost higher education enrollments rate from 48 percent to 70 percent by the year 2025 (Ministry of Education Malaysia, 2015). The need to respond to this expansion of higher education enrolments has implications for all three levels of school education - primary, lower secondary and upper secondary. Using secondary data, this study aims to explore challenges currently facing public schools in order to produce graduates with good academic results that enable them to gain a place in higher institutions. The findings of this study have provided evidence that school education system is still facing great challenges. A key to making higher education more effective, therefore, is to strengthen and improve Malaysia’s public schools.AbstrakPendidikan tinggi memainkan peran penting di banyak negara berkembang. Para lulusan sedang dilengkapi dengan pengetahuan dan keterampilan profesional untuk memenuhi tuntutan pasar tenaga kerja dalam pengetahuan ekonomi. Malaysia adalah salah satu negara berkembang yang telah mencari ekonomi maju untuk menyediakan model pendidikan tinggi massal yang akan meningkatkan tingkat pendidikan dan pendapatan nasional. Sejak 1990-an, oleh karena itu, pemerintah telah memperluas sektor pendidikan tinggi dan memperluas akses ke institusi pendidikan tinggi. Tujuannya adalah untuk meningkatkan tingkat pendaftaran pendidikan tinggi dari 48 persen menjadi 70 persen pada tahun 2025 (Departemen Pendidikan Malaysia, 2015). Kebutuhan untuk menanggapi perluasan pendaftaran pendidikan tinggi ini berimplikasi pada ketiga tingkat pendidikan sekolah-sekolah dasar, menengah bawah, dan menengah atas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi tantangan yang saat ini dihadapi sekolah umum untuk menghasilkan lulusan dengan hasil akademik yang baik yang memungkinkan mereka mendapatkan tempat di institusi yang lebih tinggi. Temuan penelitian ini telah memberikan bukti bahwa sistem pendidikan sekolah masih menghadapi tantangan besar. Oleh karena itu, kunci untuk membuat pendidikan tinggi lebih efektif adalah memperkuat dan meningkatkan sekolah-sekolah negeri di Malaysia. How to Cite : Abdullah, A. Abstract

AbstractChildren used their internal mechanisms, including faith, in coping and bouncing back after a disaster. In this paper, researcher examines the role of faith in building more resilient communities, and also how Islamic education at school can be used to help teach children to be better prepared for a disaster. The research suggests that Islamic education could be used to increase students hope after a disaster, to seek prayer as a source of strength and peace, to see the essential role of Muslim clergies in disaster recovery, and to see how some religious practices need to be understood in better ways. Qualitative narrative research was used as the method of inquiry with the primary source of data coming from interviews.  There are 27 child survivors being interviewed. All those interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed, then the transcripts were analysed to find any emerging themes.AbstrakBeberapa anak menggunakan mekanisme internal mereka, termasuk iman, dalam mengatasi dan bangkit kembali setelah bencana. Dalam makalah ini, peneliti meneliti peran iman dalam membangun komunitas yang lebih tangguh, dan juga bagaimana pendidikan Islam di sekolah dapat digunakan untuk membantu mengajar anak-anak agar lebih siap menghadapi bencana. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan Islam dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan harapan pelajar setelah bencana, untuk menjadikan doa sebagai sumber kekuatan dan perdamaian, untuk melihat peran penting para ulama Muslim dalam pemulihan bencana, dan untuk melihat bagaimana beberapa praktik keagamaan perlu dilakukan. dipahami dengan cara yang lebih baik. Penelitian naratif kualitatif digunakan sebagai metode penyelidikan dengan sumber data utama yang berasal dari wawancara. Ada 27 anak yang selamat yang diwawancarai.
