Abstract

PSN- DBD is the method to reduce mosquitos larva breeding sources, which is a vital strategy for preventing Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Active public participation is required to implement PSN- DBD. Community is not only regarded as an object, but also as the subject or perpetrator. The main targets of the PSN - DBD is all families; communities; schools; and public places, including industrial areas. These targets are expected to perform PSN - DBD by eliminating mosquito breeding places and maintaining healthy environment in their homes and respective communities on an ongoing basis. The purpose of this study was to determine container index and describe the implementation of PSN - DBD on elementary environments in Purwokerto. The descriptive method was used to survey eight elementary schools in Eastern, Western, Norhtern, and Southern districts of Purwokerto. The study was conducted by counting the larvae of Aedes sp to identify container index in tubs, water containers and containers of water for ritual wash. Findings revealed container index of 25 % at SDN 1 Bantarsoka and SDN 1 Karang Klesem, while container index of other elementary schools was 0%. PSN - DBD had been implemented in all elementary, except at SDN 1 Bantarsoka and SDN 1 Karang Klesem. Efforts to clean the tubs and drainage systems had not been carried out regularly for at least once a week. The schools should pay an active role in blocking the chains of the diseases transmission through PSN-3M activities, which included cleaning water containers and drainage systems, burying ground surface/ destroying potential mosquito breeding sites, and closing the water reservoirs. In addition, schools should always maintain good environmental school hygiene.

Abstract

Vitamin A metabolite all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), regulates periodontal collagen synthesis. Type 1 collagen, main component of periodontium was destroyed in perio-dontitis. Objectives: to study the effect of ATRA to body weight (BW), periodontal struct-ure, ATRA concentration, and collagen status. Method: 26 Wistar adult male rat of 8 weeks were used in the experimental study with Rancangan Acak Lengkap. Randomly chosen samples were devided into induced periodontitis through Porphyromonas gingivalis innoculation, and not induced. Tetracycline of 18.36 mg/day were given beginning from the finding of periodontitis, for 8 days. Randomly chosen samples were given ATRA 100 and 1000 µg/day, with A0 group as control. Body weight were measured using digital balance, periodontal tissue with light microscope, tissue ATRA concentration with High Performance Liquid Chromatography, collagen status i.e synthesis and degradation with Reverse Transcriptase Polymerizing Chain Reaction, spectrophotometry UV-VIS and Thin layer chromatography. T test was used to analyze BW mean difference among 3 groups before, also after ATRA supplementation. ANOVA was used to analyze BW and collagen status after ATRA supplementation. Result: There were no significant difference BW before and after supplementation (p=0.063 and 0.804). All-trans retinoic acid improves the collagen fiber structure. Amount of ATRA and RNA were not yet measured due to lack of time, technician & instrument-ation, while they were needed to gain more measurable data.

Abstract

Type of study is quasi-experiment with non randomized design with pretest-posttest control group design. The numbers of sample are 100 respondents consisting of 2 groups: the control group who received PPTI pocket book and the treatment group who received modification pocket book. The research was conducted at the health center working area of Banyumas Sokaraja II in 2012. An analytical technique used in this study is the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the level of knowledge of the family in the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis in the working area Sokaraja II District Health Center Sokaraja Banyumas given before and after results obtained PPTI Handbook p = 0.001, while the results obtained modification pocketbook 0.000. Therefore it can be said that the granting of a modification pocketbook is more effective than PPTI pocketbook because the respondents said the modification pocketbook easier to understand language modification and more interesting because it is accompanied by pictures than PPTI pocketbook that only contains written information that respondents feel bored and lazy to read it. Thus the necessary modification pocketbook reproduced and distributed to the public both in the working area and outside the working area Sokaraja Health Center II in the implementation and prevention of TB disease in order to assist the TB-free world by 2050.

Abstract

Banjarkerta, a village in district Karanganyar, Purbalingga, is a central village of mattress craftsman with textile waste materials as a substitute for cotton. One of negative impacts in consequence of work for the craftsmen is lung function disorder, which is caused by dust of textile waste. The other risk factors are age, work period, Body Mass Index, use of masks, smoking habits, and history of pulmonary disease. The purpose of this study was to find out the risk factors for lung function disorder in craftsmen of mattress in Banjarkerta, Purbalingga, year 2011.This research was conducted with cross sectional approach, observing 85 respondents, using random sampling techniques. The data collected was obtained by measurements (dust variables, BMI, lung capacity) and interviews (age variables, gender, work period, smoking behavior, and history of pulmonary disease). The collected data is then presented in tabular and narrative. The data analysis is done by analyzing tables and cross-table analysis, using the calculation of Ratio Prevalence  (RP).The results of this study is that there is lung function disorder in mattress craftsman, with the normal criteria (23.5%), the only restriction or obstruction (15.3%), the combined restriction and obstruction (61.2%). Factors associated with lung function disorder are age (RP = 1,220); gender (RP = 3.137); working hour (RP = 1,333); the custom of wearing masks (RP = 1.319) and a history of pulmonary disease (RP = 1.502). Factors not associated with risk of lung function disorder are work period (RP = 0.611);, BMI (RP = 0.807 and smoking habits; (RP = 0.583). Indoor levels of airborne dust in the home industry (26,656 and 80,000 ìg/Nm3 ìg/Nm3), already far exceeds the Threshold Limit Value (TLV) which allowed for the air space of industry, that is 10,000 ìg/Nm3.  Researchers gave suggestions for the craftsmen to wear a mask that is good and right, and to get occupational health monitoring by the Health Center / Department of Health.
