It is widely accepted that educational institution plays an important role in developing human resource. Due to this, high quality educational institutions should be thoroughly developed. It is argued that to develope high quality education depends strongly on the government policy, particularly in the issue of autonomy level of the institution. The concept of school based management which leads educational institution to be more independent is a relevant model of developing good quality education. This model allows community at large to actively participate in developing the quality of education.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia does not recognize dichotomy system despite the fact that, historically, the dichotomy between secular education and Islamic education in the colonial era did exist. It is claimed that the dichotomy between the two areas is more of a discriminative issue. One alternative solution to this is an integrated model, where centralized management of Islamic education by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the secular education under the management of the ministry of the national education, to be handled by the local government. This is in accordance with the National Constitution no. 32, 2004 about local government.

Abstract

The term ‘light’ in Sufism has become a favourite terminology in different cases. It has been one of central themes in the work of ‘sufi’. Al-Ghazālī proved his excellence when he interpreted the verses on light. The terms in those verses are interpreted as inner strengths of human such as senses, rationale, imagination, thinking, and intuition. These are lights by which the Almighty God leads human beings to get the fundamental light. This can, of course, be achieved by maximising human potentials through education.

Abstract

The objective of the national education that has not been substantially achieved is developing generation who believe in one God and having a good character. Educational institutions expected to achieve this, in fact, focus only to students’ intellectual education. The moral education is neglected despite the fact the objective of national education is to develop students to be spiritually outstanding. It is recommended, therefore, that the application of education be evaluated thoroughly, and hidden curriculum could be a solution to this.

Abstract

The transformation of education needs a new way of thinking and practice by complete paradigm shift. It needs a systemic paradigm and emphasizes a basic change in other aspect. Vision in Islamic education development refers to educational reformation and modernization. This point of view is based on monotheism concept combining science and technology. The implications of this vision can be described as follows: developing the branch faculty of IAIN in to independent STAIN, opening wider mandate by developing study programs and converting STAIN and IAIN to be UIN. This is a conversion which may lead Islamic education institutions to play important role in developing science and technology, and to be more competitive in the global era. Hence, Islamic institutions will be the center of excellence in education and culture to develop human civilization, and be the centre of relevant workforce provision.

Abstract

This study aims at comparing religious application level between students learning at Islamic boarding school, Islamic senior high school, and state senior high school. This study, also, analyzes religious application level in terms of gender, and the domi-nant religious aspect of application. The religious scale was employed to collect data to 225 year-two senior high school students, 110 females and 115 males. The data were analyzed by using a two-way variant. The result indicates that there is a significant difference (p=0,008) in terms of religious application level, where the students of Islamic boarding school are better than those of Islamic senior high school, while the students of Islamic senior high school are better than those of the state senior high school. This study also reveals that female students are better than their male counterparts in terms of religious application (p=0,000). Finally, the study suggests that the religious aspect which students implement dominantly is worship.

Abstract

Learning a language particularly Arabic may at first sight look complex, demanding and time consuming. That is why Mukti Ali, the former Minister of Religious Affair, has come up with the idea of having several points of entry to language approach, called All in One System. Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language—with appropriate techniques—to students who are not native speakers will enable them to learn Arabic effectively. It firstly develops a curri-culum for Islamic secondary learners. This approach—All in One System—asserts that to create an effective teaching program it is not enough merely to use the most sophisticated technology such as CDs, and phonetics software. Teaching methods tested in actual conditions are even more important. The process for teaching Arabic to non native speakers is very different from teaching other languages. Therefore, the concept built on teaching Arabic to introduce integrated four skills at once—listening, reading, speaking, and writing is of great importance.
