Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Joko Widodo`s policy of Kartu Jakarta Sehat (KJS) and Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) programs. This research is to show the opinion from poor people of Jakarta related with KJS and KJP implementation based on the perspective of development communication. This research method is descriptive qualitative. Collection of primary data obtained through in depth interviews of the poor public in Jakarta related KJS and KJP programs. Meanwhile, collection of secondary data obtained through documentation of the various media and library research. The conclusion of this research explains Jokowi`s poverty alleviation policies has not fully implementation.

Abstract

This article describes the role of the media to support the eradication of corruption in Indonesia, which is displayed in the form of editorial policy of the media in constructing social reality of corruption cases. Two patterns of reconstruction of social reality as a basis editorial policy, which consists of the reconstruction as rewriting and reconstruction as the actualization of the cultural ideology of journalism by working with certain strategies such as news or reconstructing interpretative facts accompanied by a media crew assessment. Its meaning is, the product should be aligned reconstruction of social reality and is able to transform the values of an anti-corruption into public space. The problem is when the national media or local media that makes governments and institutions that have economic and political power as a strategic partner, the media tend to be politically conservative attitudes or rewriting only in constructing a case of corruption by reason of maintaining objectivity the role of the media. That attitude can be used as an indication that the media in a crisis situation in favor of eradication of corruption.

Abstract

Muslim Asian students have diverse specific needs when undertaking education in western country universities. Many international students use social networking sites as media for distance communication and helping in their adjustment.This study attempts to investigate the impact of using new social networking sites on the cross cultural adaptation process. Qualitative methodology was used for the study. Individual in-depth interviews were conducted for data collection. The study investigates social networking uses and the adaptation experiences of 10 Muslim-Indonesian studying (or graduated) in some Australian universities.This research shows that most Muslim Indonesian students use them just to take information about Islam and instead of using them to publicize Islamic teaching (Da’wah). Social networking sites can help for establishing and maintaining relationship their friends in Indonesia, making adjustment, and sharing cultural experiences such as dealing with stereotype or looking for halal food and place for praying. Social networking sites are mostly used to share information and to discuss information about Islam and the way of Muslim adjusting in non Muslim environment.

Abstract

Conflict between Israel and Palestine still become the hot issue that all media covering on it. But the information flow about the conflict is dominated by Western Media. The domination followed by Western Media’s effort to manipulate the information. For example, Western Media called Palestine as a dispute land; meanwhile if we look at the history it was the Israel colonized Palestine.There are several alternative point of view about the conflict. One of the alternative point offered by Joe Sacco, an US comic writer. Sacco offers the stories from fact that often forgotten by the Western Media. This research discuss about Footnotes in Gaza, one of Sacco’s comic. Footnotes in Gaza based on Sacco’s investigation about Khan Younis and Rafah incident in 1956, when the the Palestine civilian were being killed by Israeli soldiers.This research use Sara Mills’ positioning the subject-object as the methods. In The Footnotes in Gaza, clearly seen that the position of the narrator (the subject) is always held by the victims (the Palestinians), while the object is the Israeli with all their act of violence.

Abstract

Heading of ASEAN Community 2015, Indonesia should improve its role to increase Indonesian society to love local products, and to introduce Indonesian local products and potentials using internet and social media is the best solution.The benefits and importance of social media is highly because social media has become a major pillar in the delivery of information. Social media can be used for socializing programs and policies, introducing the product and the potential of Indonesia, restoring and enhancing the image of tourism; and moreover, social media can be used as a means of learning communities.The object of this research is social media account of Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy; and Department of Tourism and Culture, West Java. Using case study methods, these research concludes that a number of smart companies does not only use social networking media it as a marketing medium, but also as a supporter of business activity, simplify and strengthen the function of communication to the public.

Abstract

Generally, the message from television is not separated for the television viewers; it means that anyone can watch television programs. Children without any parental supervision can have a habit of consuming media where those television programs are not addressed to their age. This study aims to assess media habits or television viewing habits and media consumption patterns conducted by early childhood in the city of Bengkulu; the other goal is to decipher the meaning of the impressions of early childhood about the for children television shows as well as the shows for adults. This study is a qualitative study and conducted in early childhood or kindergarten students at TK Intan Insani dan PAUD Haqiqi in the city of Bengkulu. The main method of data collection is in-depth interviews and observation. Results reveal that media habits or television viewing habits and media consumption patterns conducted by early childhood in the city of Bengkulu is very high. The watching time for children is mostly 3 to 5 hours per a day. The term dating, falling in love, lover is a term that is understood through songs and sinetron or adult movies they watch. The interpretation of the child regarding special program in this study is illustrated naturally.

Abstract

Implementation of e-democracy in Indonesia is still problematic. This notions based on three arguments which is discussed in this article. First, e-democracy is just the facilities or the goals? Second, define e-democracy as a facilities or goals of democracy, leads to question, how this new system of democracy could be start, from structure or culture of society? Third, if Indonesians digital culture has established, then internet as democracy space could be examined, does this necessarily make the internet as a public sphere, as Jurgen Habermas theory said? This article does not aim for a practical solution, but rather try to analyze and mapping out some of the indecision in the implementation of e-democracy in Indonesia, so that the various tensions between internet relations, state , and society can be clearly explained.

Abstract

Middle class in Indonesia is growing up but its interest is still inadequate in the political arena as the poor and the have. Mobilizing middle class to voice out their aspiration can trigger social change that might contribute to shift the horizon of democracy in the country. This paper brings preliminary conclusion on this issue: a) Indonesian middle class hypothetically falls into transitional spectrum between baby boomers and early millennial that is indicated by the essential meaning of family and self-sufficiency in their career, embracing short-medium orientation, and inclination to be rational in responding communication message compared to earlier generation (b) fit and multidirectional communication strategy, emphasizing on engagement and dialogue via effective communication channels to yield collaborative exchange are necessary, and (c) Indonesian YUMIF has strong economic-political power to bring social changes, therefore, empowering them to bring a better Indonesia is crucial.
