Abstract

The study aims to identify ideal formula of clay compositionas the main material of functional ceramics produced in cylindrical and non-cylindrical shapes with the hand and feet rotating techniques.The rotating technique has some limitations because it cannot be employed in the making of non-cylindrical shapes.Even worse that the existing rotating techniques have failed to produce high-quality ceramics as demanded by consumers. Preciseness ofsize, shapes, and thickness of ceramic wall is a great concern and thus it is necessary to have the analysis of technical aspects and raw materials.The ceramic products from Pagerjurang have attracted many foreign consumers. The products have to meet the specified standard of quality including thematerial,model/shape, size, and timeliness of order accomplishment. Reproduction technique is the appropriate solution to have the desired shapes, sizes, and thickness of ceramic wall. Manual experiments are required to test the quality of clay whilelaboratory testing is needed to test the chemical elements.The ideal formula of clay composition as the main material of ceramic products in Pagerjurang will enable ceramic reproduction through single casting, multiple casting, and slip castingso that the expected export quality standard can be met.In this way, the preciseness of shape, size, and thickness of ceramic wall as well as diversified non-cylindrical products requested by consumers can be ensured. Abstract

The study of batik in the batik centers of Giriloyo and Wijirejo Bantul is intended to develop the existing motifs of batik mbantulan and create new motifs while maintain the identity of batik mbantulan with its local-rich characteristics in Kabupaten Bantul. The development of batik mbantulan has undergone the rising and falling trend. To survive and develop artisans of batik mbantulan have to adapt themselves to the ongoing market preference through the improved characteristics of batik mbantulan. It is necessary to explore the possible existing motifs of batik mbantulan that have brought up the batik center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo have. The motifs of batik mbantulan have to be reserved in the batik products through identification, diversification, and creation of new batik mbantulan motifs, Therefore, the new designs is expected to be more competitive in batik market and create the spirit of creativity and innovativeness among the artisans of batik mbantulan in the Batik Center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo Bantul. The main obstacles that the artisans in the batik center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo have to face up is the meeting of consumers’ orders with their new motifs. The artisans are not capable enough to create new designs through the development of mbantulan motifs and prefer to work on the present and general motifs of batik Yogyakarta. The study is expected to deal with the artisans’ problem in creating new designs / motifs and improve their capacity to make new creative and innovative designs to meet consumers’ desired standard. In turn, this will lead to a better economic prospect for the artisans of batik mbantulan in the batik center of Giriloyo and Wijirejo. Key words: batik mbantulan, artisans, motifs

Abstract

Plantsofvarioustypescan be processed andused as awoodfinishingmaterial, either as abasicdye, a mixture ofdyes, as wellasthe finalfinishing. In these experimentsconducted onturmeric, gum gambier, betel leaves,stickshenna, mangosteenrind, skinjengkol, andinjetforcoloringwood. Throughexperimental research, with thewettechniqueandthe resultsindicatesapgambiersaffroncolor the best, producingthe yellow colorof turmeric, gambierandinjetsapproducesa redcolormaroon. The maximumcoloris producedin addition to thebasicmaterialcontainingpigmentis good, as wellasprecisematerials processingtechniques, as well asabsorptionof thepigmentsare alsogoodtimber. Meanwhile,the colorproducedbybetel leaves, stickshenna, mangosteenrind, skinjengkol, less than the maximum. Abstract

A religious traditional art in society is related to myth which can be categorized into folktale. This tradition has been often become one in the Javanese mind and influential in giving direction to their lives. Concerning with myth is inseparable from people’s believed. The people believe which is appearing is usually established on the basis of a tale or story, which is descendant from the local people and unwritten but believed by the society so that it becomes tradition and culture encouragement. One of Indonesian ancestors’ heritages is leather puppet which can be enjoyed by us until now, although the form and the development conform to the development of the present modern world. Myth of the leather puppet in Javanese people themselves has been an icon, because the leather puppet it selves becomes myth which unified with tradition as well as Javanese people culture. So, other myth follows the leather puppet myth. One of the existing myths in society are the myth’s appearances of human’s skin puppet, mainly a traditional art of leather puppet the material of which is believed to be created from human’s skin. Kedakan village located in the slope of Merbabu valley which is remote and far from the city. Because of its remote location, this place leave culture heritage of the preserved ancestor’s tradition, such as human’s skin puppet. The appearing myth in the human skin puppet is that of believed that the puppet is created from human’s skin, therefore, the puppet is considered holy and highly respected. The sacredness of the puppet appears, since many misterious and illogical things happened related to the sacred puppet frequently. The myth which are still being preserved enables this leather puppet art in the remote village ever lasting and the existence is still being nurtured. Key words: Leather Puppet, Human Skin, and Myth

Abstract

Hermeneutics as an object of study is a means of understanding the ”actual” as old as human beings age on this earth. Hermeneutics is very important in the process of human interaction, so the study was conducted to study the hermeneutics in his position as a science of interpretation that can be studied in ontological, epistemological, and axiological. As a science, hermeneutics emerged as a dominant movement in European Protestant theology which states that hermeneutics is a focal point of the current theological issues. Associated with his position as a science, the study was conducted to determine hermeneutics in the concept of etymology and terminology, knowing on historically with the figures who pioneered the science of it, his position as a theory of interpretation multidisciplinary, as well as the position and function as a historiographical approach through philological approach. Abstract

This eksperiment attempts to solve common problems faced in ceramic finish, finishing ceramic objects have differences to resolve other matters. Glaze is a type of glass coating that is applied to coat the ceramic objects, this is an interesting layer to be studied, because the success glaze applications in ceramics is influenced by many factors.Applications glaze on ceramic objects have a very high level of difficulty, the difficulty seen in glaze formulas, application techniques, firing temperature, shrinkage of dry matter and the successful achievement of color after glaze the combustion process. This research is to determine whether the clay character has an influence on the success rate of the color will appear. The problem solving method uses the experimental method, this method is considered more appropriate to determine the level of success of an experiment relating to material containing chemical elements. Clay used is a type of stoneware clay has five classes of characters, clay are as follows: 1. Pacitan soil, wet soil has a reddish color, 2. Singkawang soil, wet soil has a whitish colour, 3. Sukabumi is a brightly colored ground, wet floor is a beige, with 4. Sukabumi, the dark ground, wet soil has a dark brown color, 5. Bojonegoro soil, wet soil has a light brown color. color Glaze five characters shall be applied on the surface of clay are: 1. young Greens, 2. Pink, 3. Greenish blue, 4. Brown 5. Dark blue. Character clay is relatively large contribution to the emergence of color glaze in accordance with the wishes or the plan, especially when using a formula based on the glossy glaze. Glaze formula will tend to be stable when there is a combination of stain with a glaze oxide, stable formula can also be found on the matt glaze, because it glaze was close or not transparent. coloring oxides are very sensitive to the character of soil temperature change is cobalt and fe ,experiment that required in advance if the formula contains two types of oxide glaze. Abstract

This study to look at the changes the meaning of Singo Barong in the context of the past as understood by the public Cirebon in the present. In the time, the train experienced a period of transit which to change the context in which the material or object of art will have meaning. As a result of the frequent occurrence of changes in the context of the meanings are often subject to change. It is an art object in transition, experiencing a change of meaning as a result of changes in context. Change of meaning will evoke an emotional response when crossing cultural boundaries. Reading of documents or artifacts that are relevant necessary to achieve a deeper meaning and detail. Therefore anthropological perspective that links production and consumption of artifacts are not separated from the question of the culture, politics, religion and others. Borrowing the theory of "processual relativism" Svasek will bring an understanding of the art material in a different time and space. At least not with borrowed this theory will be obtained the values ​​behind the train characteristics. By finding the characteristics at a certain time and space will be acquired meaning, then what meaning it will be reviewed and compared. Tie-dye becomes the one of the most popular craft textile, which is known almost all over the world including in Indonesia. Making motif on to the fabric using tie-dye techniques is very easy to be learned, beside there are many kind of simple technics on it. These techniques are very unique and could be developed and explored without limited. The unpredictable effects of motifs sometimes may appear and can be resulted from tie-dye techniques. In this article we will study about tie-dye in many aspect i.e. term of tie-dye, tradition and culture background of tie-dye, mainly showing about tie-dye techniques, and a few tie-dye products. Some element can be arrange in modern art is the evolution from prehistoric art that buried from the prest. The relation from traditional art and modern art become symbiosis. Exactly modern art has been appropriate with some genre in art, infact in comtamprorary art. There any attraction with Etnic art as reminder about the presistant as ancient tradition. In papper/article has been explorated about the ekspression of tradition art wich already givea beg influence, create, and also develop any responsibility about the evolution of art in Indonesianfor many years. The traditional culture have much the glories of bronze age in southeast Asia. At the begining a sign and symbol have been stated on a cave as art, a megalith statue, and any kind of tradition motive/theme for worship of anchestral spirits. Their cultural hesitge are delicate carvings engraved on brame ritual tools, magic carvings on war shields and elaborate ceremonial symbol fromthe bronze artifact.Keyword : Last Art, Artifact.
