Abstract

Theobjective of this research was to analyze burning and heating on the stove ofjatropha-seeds with various of diameters and sarangan holes, in order to achieve the higher efficiency of the stoveof jatropha-seeds.  Thisresearch has been conducted in the machinery and workshop laboratory of TheAgricultural Engineering Program, The Agricultural Technology Department,Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya from April 2011 to October2011.  Themethod which is used in this research is block randomized design factorialmethod which consist of two treatment factors and each treatment factor consistof two stages and each treatment combination is repeated three times. The firsttreatment with two stages is the diameter of the sarangan holes (3 mm and 4mm), the second treatment with two stages is the amount of the sarangan holesper cm2 (2 pieces/cm2 and 4 pieces/cm2).  The parameter observed include the mainparameters and the supporting parameter. The main parameter is the fuel combustion rate, flame height ,efficiencyof water heating, the rate of water heating, and the supporting parameter includingflame temperature, fuel efficiency, burning time of the jatropha fuels, waterheating time, the difference temperature on the components of the stove.  The research result showed the best that sarangancontained on D1X1 with a combination of diameter (3 mm)and the amount of sarangan holes per-cm2 (2 pieces/cm2)with 0,69 kg/jam of combustion rate, 30 cm of flame height, the rate of waterheating 0,1245kkal/s, and the efficiency of waterheating 8,86 %. Keywords :The jatropha-seeds stove, Jatropha-seed fuels, and Sarangan of the jatropha-seedsstove

Abstract

The objective of this research was to design and test the rice harvest machine portable knapsack type. The methods used in this research were engineering design, making equipment, and testing on the equipment.  The primary paramaters were  theoretical capacity of the planting, harvesting effective capacity, work efficiency equipment, and the loss of rice yields.  The secondary parameters were the forward speed, the total of operation, and the rice yields.  The testing of this machine is done in area rice  field with an area of 202 at 10 obsrevation points.  Theoretically, the rice harvest machine portable knapsack type was able to finish harvesting of 1 Ha of rice crops with a time of 67.11 hours. Whereas, the effective working capacity of the field tested results showed that  this type of harvesting machine was able to finish of 1 Ha with a time of 60.5 hours.  From the comparison of harvesting manually and by used the machine (hour/Ha/person) obtained an efficiency of 50.77 % and the loss of grain in process harvesting by used the rice harvest portable knapsack type of 44.4 %   Keyword : harvester machine, performance, efficiency

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study  the performance of stainless steel type slated mouldboard plow at several forward speeds and tillage depths.  The research was conducted at the Experimental Farm of Agricultural Faculty and Chemical Laboratory, Biology and Fertility of Land, Soil Science, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, from October to December 2011.  This research was performed using Randomized Factorial Block Design that consisted of three levels of depth of the plough  (10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm), and three levels of  forward speed (2 km/hr, 3 km/hr dan 4 km/hr), and each treatment was repeated three times.  The observed parameters were efficiency of tillage, energy’s need of tillage, and draft of tillage.  The result showed that, the depth of  tillage  and the forward speed of tillage had very significant effect on the performance of tillage.  The best treatment was the depth of  tillage 10 cm and forward speed of tillage 2 km/hr, with efficiency of tillage 90.52 %, energy’s need of tillage 748.98 MJ/ha and draft of tillage 6.87 kg.    Keywords: mouldboard plow, type slated, stainless steel.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the physical and mechanical characteristics of particle board of different size of rice husks particle with the addition of paraffin.  The research used Factorial Completely Randomized Design that consisted of two treatment as factors, and each factor consisted of three levels.  Each combination of treatment was replicated three times.  The first factor was the size of rice husks particle (1.70 mm, 1.40 mm, 1.18 mm) and the second factor was the addition of paraffin (0%, 2%, 4%) based on dry weight of rice husks.  The parameters were the density, moisture content, thickness swelling, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, and internal bond.  The results showed that the treatment combination between the particle size of 1.18 mm and the paraffin addition of 4% (A3B3) was the best treatment with the density of 438 kg/m3, moisture content of 9,04%, thickness swelling of 0,86%, modulus of elasticity of 28,33 N/mm2, modulus of rupture of 0,22 N/mm2, and internal bond of 0,12 N/mm2.  Keywords : Particle board, rice husk, paraffin

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of ambient air temperature which is temperature and RH (relative humidity) in drying process using aeration and condensation method. Aeration method utilized natural air flow from environment to flow hot air from heater chamber to the drying chamber. Condensation method sealed air flow from environment to minimize ambient air temperature and relative humidity inside drying chamber. Parameters observed were evaporated water, drying time, material weight reduced and electrical energy needs. The study showed 12 hours drying process evaporate 1,775 gram water by aeration method while condensation method evaporate 1,788 gram water. Nevertheless to gain 9% water content takes 6 hours 33 minutes by aeration method while condensation method takes 5 hours 33 minutes. It also needs 1.0943KWh electrical energy by aeration method while condensation method needs 1.0159 KWh.  Keywords : chip lenjeran, aeration method, condensation method

Abstract

The research objective was to determine the effect of soil water level differences, porosity and semi permeable layer thickness for subsurface irrigation on chilly (Capsicum annum) crop growth.  It used split plot design with two factors of treatment and three replications for each treatment factor.  The first factor was soil water level height consisting of 4 cm, 8 cm and 12 cm as a main plot.  The second factor was combination of thickness (t) and sand (s) as well as clay (c) composition as subplot consisting of A1B1 (1 cm, 30%, 70%), A1B2 (1 cm, 40%, 60%), A1B3 (1 cm, 50%, 50%), A2B1 (1,5 cm, 30%, 70%), A2B2 (1,5 cm, 40%, 60%), A2B3 (1,5 cm, 50%, 50%). The observed parameters were water content (%), climatic data, crop length increment (cm), leaves number, flower shoots number, fruits number and crop dry matter weight (g). The results showed that the highest crop grwoth was found on 8 cm soil water level and A2B2 treatment with average value of 106.33 cm and the lowest one was found on 12 cm soil water level and A2B1 treatment with average value of 70.00 cm, respectively. The highest yield was found on 8 cm soil water level and A1B2 treatment with weight of 373.488 g. Treatments of 12 cm soil water level and A1B3 as well as A2B3 had produced zero yield. Semi permeable layer of B2 composition was the best water delivery for chilly crops, whereas 8 cm soil water level was the best water height for chilly crops.  Keywords: Soil water level, thickness and composition of sand and clay.

Abstract

This research objective was to analysis the technical and financial variety of grain storage systems in South Sumatra. This study used description method through observation and the data analysis the technical and financial. The Hermetic storage system of puddy grain have a theoritical capacity (KT) was 70 kg, the effective capacity (KE) was 50 kg, the efficiency of equipment (EA) was 71.42%, depreciation of puddy grain 6%, BEP price production was Rp 3.557/kg, BEP for volume production 1.253,74 kg, NPV Rp. 2.420.893, Net B/C ratio 1.18 and IRR 53%. The barn system  have KT was 768.000 kg, KE was 200.000 kg, EA was 26,04%, depreciation of puddy grain 18%, BEP price production was Rp 3.048/kg, BEP for volume production 124.976,10 kg, NPV Rp. 433.782.041, Net B/C ratio 1,31 and IRR 51%. The rice plant system have KT was 1.024.000 kg, KE was      700.000 kg, EA was 68,36%, depreciation of puddy grain 18%, BEP price production was  Rp 2.889/kg, BEP for volume production 414.525,51 kg, NPV Rp. 1.784.722.815, Net B/C ratio 1,33 dan IRR 56,06%.  The sacks system have KT was 25 kg, KE was 20 kg, EA was 80%, depreciation of puddy grain was 10%, BEP price production was Rp 3.583/kg, BEP for volume production 145,11 kg, NPV Rp. 240.005, Net B/C ratio 1,14 dan IRR 55,65%. Based on the investment criteria of sensitivity analysis increased the cost of 10%, and sensitivity analysis of decrease the prices of 10% of storage systems still fit for use because NPV > 0 and Net B/C ratio > 1.  Keywords : Technical analysis, analysis of financial, analysis of sensitivity

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and mechanical properties of particle board made from coconut fiber and plastic waste. This research used Factorial Completely Randomized Design (RALF) having two factors and each factor was consisted of three levels, whereas each treatment was replicated three times.  The first treatment is the kind of plastic (A) :  A1 =  PET (Polietilen Tereftalat), A2 =  HDPE (High Density Polyethylene),   A3 = PP (Polipropilen). The second treatment is the plastic composition (B) : B1 = 50 gram, B2 = 100 gram,          B3 = 150 gram.  Each treatment was used same weight coconut fiber.  Observed parameters were modulus of rupture, water absorption, density, swelling, and internal bonding.  Based on test result of BNJD (Real Difference Distance Duncann) showed that the kind of  plastic, plastic composition and their interaction had significant effect on modulus of rupture, water absorption,  density and had not significant effect on swelling, and internal bonding.  The combination of Polipropilen types of plastics and plastic composition 150 gram (A3B3) produced particle board having the best characteristic with rupture modulus of 5,65 N/mm2, water absorption of 92,90%, density of 326,43 Kg.m3, swelling of 2,15%, internal bonding of 0,45 N/mm2.  Keywords: Particle board, plastic waste, coconut fiber

Abstract

The aim of was  this research was manufacture of portable incubator machines with daily temperature control. The research was implemented in several stages are tool design and testing of tool. The design of tool consist of temperature control system design. The testing of tool was done 23 days, purposely is to know the percentage of eggs that hatched. The result of research showed that the all equipments of incubator and control system can work purposely that was to raise the temperature as desired. Incubator  has capacity of 15 eggs and of 66.67% hatch egg.  Key words : temperature control system design, eggs, temperature.
