Abstract

Baros sub-district contribute high incidence rate of dengue fever in Sukabumi city. To determine the level of transmission risk of dengue fever from entomological condition aspect, it’s required to do the entomological survey and interview about control efforts with the aim of identifying entomological factors at Baros sub-district and dengue control efforts in that area. Population for the survey and interview on entomological control efforts are all community group or Rukun Warga (RW) in endemic area in Baros sub-district. Samples for survey are house/building at sub-district Baros RW 11. Interviewed respondent was a person whose stays in the building. Interviews were conducted using a questionnaire by visiting the respondent. Entomology data were collected through pre adult mosquitoes surveys. The results show that vector control made by RW 11 Baros sub-district are grouped into cultural, physical, biological, chemical, role and control in an integrated manner, with the highest type of control measures is an integrated control (37.6%). Indicators of entomology is HI = 33.98%, CI = 11.1%, BI = 45.63% . Based on the CI indicator, RW 11 sub-district Baros has a density figure 4, while the indicator based on HI and BI, has a density figure 6. This suggests that this region has a moderate risk of transmission to the spread of dengue disease.Keywords: control efforts, dengue, Baros sub-district, entomological survey

Abstract

Dengue Fever Disease is still regarded as an endemic disease in Banjar City. Information is still required to map dengue fever case distribution, mean center of case distribution, and the direction of dengue fever case dispersion in order to support the surveillance program in the relation to the vast area of the dengue fever disease control program. The objective of the research is to obtain information regarding the area of dengue fever disease distribution in Banjar City by utilizing the Standard Deviational Ellipse (SDE) model. The research is an observational study with Explanatory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA). Data analysis uses SDE model with the scope of the entire sub district area in Banjar City. The data analyzed is dengue fever case from 2007-2013 periods, with the number of sample of 315 cases. Social demographic overview of dengue fever patients in Banjar City shows that most of the patients are within the productive age, with 39.7% within the school age and 45.7% are within the work age. Most of the dengue fever patients are men (58.1%). Distribution of dengue fever cases from the period of 2007 until 2012 mostly occur in 25-37.5 meters above sea level (MASL) (55.8%). The SDE models of dengue fever cases in Banjar City generally form dispersion patterns following the x-axis and clustered by physiographic boundaries. The SDE model can be used to discover dispersion patterns and directions of dengue fever cases, therefore, dengue fever disease control program can be conducted based on local-specific information, in order to support health decision.Keywords: model, mapping, Standard Deviational Ellipse, dengue fever, Banjar City

Abstract

Malaria remains a public health problem in West Nusa Tenggara Province. Central Lombok District is one of the areas with high case of malaria. Annual Malaria Incidence (AMI) was increased from 5.9 ‰ in 2006, 6.7‰ up to 8.1‰ in 2008. The objective of the study is to describe the ecological condition of Anopheles spp. through observation, measurement of environmental variables, larvae and adult collection. This research was an observational research with cross-sectional study. The population of this study is all mosquitos and breeding habitats of Anopheles spp. that exist in the research location. Ecological observations carried out on anopheles breeding habitats including acidity, salinity, shaded places and aquatic biota. Air temperature and humidity measured at the adult mosquitoes trapping sites. The result showed that pH values of water is around 9.00, salinity in the breeding habitats around 14 ppm, and water biota (i.e. moss, grass, shrimps, fishes, tadpoles and crabs) surrounded by bushes with larvae density 0,1-28,8 each dipping. The air measurement at the time was between 23°-27° Celsius and 65%-84% humidity. This research concludes that ecology and environmental conditions were supporting the development of larvae and adult mosquito of Anopheles spp.Keywords: ecology, Anopheles spp., Central Lombok

Abstract

Vector control programs using chemical insecticide e.g organochlorin, organophosphate, carbamate, and pyrethroid (cypermethrin). When those insecticides were applied continuously, it may lead to vector resistance. The aim of this research was to detect any resistance of Ae. aegypti to cypermethrin in endemic areas of Cimahi. This research is a laboratory study that used biochemical test which referred to Lee’s method. Larva samples were collected from 8 villages, which are endemic area. Samples of larvae were collected from 15 villages belonged to dengue endemic areas in town of Cimahi, however, villages that meet the availability of larvae were only 8 villages. To detect the activity of monooxygenase enzyme, a biochemical assay was used in this research by created a reaction between larvae homogenate and sodium acetate substrate. The results of reaction were read using ELISA reader with spectrophotometer wave length of 595 nm. Overall, the results showed that most of the larvae in eight villages of Cimahi is still susceptible to cypermethrin. However, larvae from Cibabat village were 4% resistant, 2% tolerant, and 94% susceptible. On the other hand, Cigugur village showed that 12.7% larvae were tolerant and 87.3% still susceptible. Other villages like Cimahi, Cibeureum, Melong, Baros, Cipageran, and Pasirkaliki still remains susceptible. Resistance detection using biochemical assay of cypermethrin insecticide for Ae.aegypti resulting data stated that in 6 villages were still susceptible but in 3 other villages were already tolerant and 1 village was already resistance.Keywords: Aedes aegypti, resistance, biochemical assay, cypermethrin, Cimahi, West Java

Abstract

The used of chemicals as larvicidal may causing resistance, health problem, and environment problem. Leaf extracts of Citrus as biolarvicidal against Aedes aegypti larvae can be used as an alternative larvicidal. The aims of this study is to find out the species of Citrus in the study sample, which is the most effective as biolarvicidal. This study was conducted using nested experiment design, with six treatments and five replicates. Larvae mortality was observed after 24 and 48 hours. Then, data were analyzed by probit. The results of this study show that (1) the LC95 value after 24 hours of exposure of leaf extracts of Citrus hystrix, Citrus amblycarpa, and Citrus maxima, were each 3,176 ppm; 4,174 ppm; and 6,369 ppm. (2) the LC95 value after 48 hours of exposure of leaf extracts of Citrus hystrix, Citrus amblycarpa, and Citrus maxima, were each 2,499 ppm; 3,256 ppm; and 4,886 ppm. (3) leaf extract of Citrus hystrix is the most effective among others as biolarvicidal against Aedes aegypti larvae. Abstract

At malaria high endemic area, oftentimes appear a malaria carrier (without clinical symptom) due to antibody parasite existence on blood as caused the frequently of contact human with malaria parasite.To detect prevalence of malaria carrier, it had been conducted a study at Pamotan and Bagolo villages with blood microscopically examination for malaria parasites existences.

Abstract. Pabean villages is a filariasis endemic areas caused by Whuchereria bancrofti parasite with incidence rate is 3.4% on year 2007. To determine biting activity of Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes that been confirmed as filariasis s vector, it been conducted a entomological survey as long as 5 months (from August up to December) every 2 weeks that aimed to know mosquito s peak biting and res ting density in each hour catching. A survey was conducted using all night landing collection method from 18. OO am up to 06. OO pm. In each hour survey; indoor and outdoor landing mosquitoes and also res ting mosquitoes on inside wall and cattle stable, will be caught using aspirator and put onto paper cup. A study result was showed that indoor peak of Cx. quinquefasciatus mosquitoes biting densi¬ty is 20.00, 22.00 and 23.00 0 clock, whereas the outside peak one is 21.00, 24.00 and 02.00 oclock; peak of res ting on inside wall is 18. Abstract

Abstract. Ciamis district is dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) endemie area that significantly increased of number of cases on last three years period (2004-2006). This fact is areason to conduet research that aimed to know a description a society s knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) and also to know relationships between that one with the occurrences of DHF. The research was design ed using cross sectional study; 195 respondents was inter­viewed to know the level of society s KAP. The final results of this research was showed that the respondents KASP is good but does not give impact on occurrences of DHF cases be­cause its practice was not done yet by societies in control DHF disease.Key words: Knowledge, Attitude, Practice, Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.

Abstract

Abstract. Adiarsa Barat village is one of endemic area of the Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Karawang. That village had not touched by community empowerment yet. The purpose of this research was to knoweffectiveness of housewives empowerment for eradication of DHF with breeding site control. This research was an experimental quation, with intervention in one location and control in other. The final result was hoped that the respondents would increase of knowledge, attitude and practice. The data of housewife behaviour was collected by intervew. This research found that there was the increase of housewifes group behaviour, followed by the increase of housewifes behaviour at intervention area with P value < 0,05. Although housewifes behaviour at control area hasnt increase with P value> 0,05. This reaserch suggested that people participation needed to be identified first then monitored periodically, so that their behaviour to eradicate DHF disease would be a habit or permanent.Key Words : DHF, Empowerment, Housewife, Knowlegde, Attitude and Practice(KAP)

Abstract

Abstract. Kota Bandung is a big city located on an altitude between 675 meters above sea level in the south to 1050 meters above sea level in the north. These characteristics make this region is injluenced by the humid and cool mountains climate with average temperature 23.1 ac. Based on data 2002 up to 2006, the case of DHF in this city is the highest in West Java Province. This paper describes the characteristics of in ten ded DHF in Kota Bandung. Data are collected since 2002 to 2006 are processed to be presented in descriptive. From those periods of time, found that cases weekly pattern are not always similar in every years, but there is a year that have cases weekly pattern that relatively dijJerent from the other years.Key word: DHF, Kota Bandung, host characteristics.
