Abstract

This descriptive research described a profile of students’ critical thinking that measured by Science Virtual Test (SVT). The participants who involved in this study are 563 students on Junior High School (JHS). Their distibution are 188 students in 7th grade (13 years old), 265 students in 8th grade (14 years old), and 110 students in 9th grade (15 years old). They comes from Bandung city, Bandung district, West Bandung district, Tasikmalaya city, and Kuningan city that gathered in West Java, Indonesia. Qualitatative data were obtained by using five packages of Scienve Virtual Test (SVT) with topic on integrated concepts “living things and environmental sustainability” and separated concepts “heat and matter; human digestive system”. Results showed that general achievement of students’ critical thinking was 58.24%. Its mean in ‘medium’ level. The highest score on element “interpretation and inference” (66.18%) while the lowest score on element “question at issue” (42.02%). Therefore, the strategy to improve of students’ critical thinking is needed.

Abstract

Mental model plays an important role in giving reasons, describing, explaining, predicting, testing new ideas, and solving problems. Research on the mental model still needs to be done, especially regarding acid-base which is revealed by using Interview About Event (IAE). The purpose of this study was to analyze the students' mental models on the Arrhenius acid-base concept, the concept of Brӧnsted-Lowry acid base, and acid-base strength. The study was conducted on six students of class XII IPA in one high school in Bandung by using interviews that ask students to explain the given phenomenon. The answers of each student are mapped so as to derive their mental model profile. Based on the pattern obtained, there is found misconception experienced by students that all substances having atom H or OH group on chemical formula is Arrhenius acid or base, proton transfer on acid-base reaction Brӧnsted-Lowry occurs from acid to its conjugate base or from base to conjugate acid , The arrow of the reaction both in the perfect ionisation reaction and the partial ionization reaction is the same ie the arrow one (), the solute particles present in the solution in the ionizing agent are only partially ions (in the absence of molecules). Findings are useful for developing learning strategies, textbooks, media and other learning tools by linking the different levels of chemical representation to build meaning so that students' understanding is better. Keywords: acid basa, Interview About Event (IAE), misconception, mental model.AbstrakModel mental berperan penting dalam memberikan alasan, menggambarkan, menjelaskan, memprediksi, menguji ide-ide baru, dan memecahkan masalah. Penelitian mengenai model mental masih perlu dilakukan, khususnya mengenai asam-basa yang diungkap dengan menggunakan Interview About Event (IAE). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis model mental siswa pada konsep asam basa Arrhenius, konsep asam basa Brӧnsted-Lowry, dan kekuatan asam basa. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap enam siswa kelas XII IPA di salah satu SMA di Kota Bandung  dengan  menggunakan wawancara yang meminta siswa untuk menjelaskan fenomena yang diberikan.  Jawaban setiap siswa dipetakan sehingga diperoleh profil model mental mereka. Berdasarkan pola yang diperoleh, ditemukan miskonsepsi yang dialami siswa yaitu semua zat yang memiliki atom H atau gugus OH pada rumus kimianya merupakan asam atau basa Arrhenius, transfer proton pada reaksi asam basa Brӧnsted-Lowry terjadi dari asam ke basa konjugatnya atau dari basa ke asam konjugatnya, tanda panah reaksi baik pada reaksi ionisasi sempurna maupun reaksi ionisasi sebagian adalah sama yaitu tanda panah satu (), partikel zat terlarut yang ada dalam larutan pada zat yang mengalami reaksi ionisasi sebagian hanya ion-ionnya saja (tanpa adanya molekul). Temuan bermanfaat untuk mengembangkan strategi pembelajaran, buku ajar, media dan perangkat pembelajaran lainnya dengan mempertautkan antar level representasi kimia untuk membangun makna sehingga pemahaman siswa menjadi lebih baik.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the difference on scientific explanation skills of students taught using POGIL model with SSI context, POGIL model, and conventional model on salt hydrolysis and buffer solution. This study used quasi-experimental posttest only design. Sample used three classes which were selected by convenience sampling technique in a public high school in Malang. The data were obtained from students' written scientific explanation and classified using SOLO taxonomy. The results of Kruskall-Wallis H-Test showed that there is significant different of students' scientific explanation skills between students' who were taught using POGIL model with SSI learning context, POGIL model, and conventional model.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the communication and collaboration skills improvement of junior high school studentsin learning science using Integrated Multimedia-Based Instruction (MBI2). This computer multmedia has been designed by researchers and it focuses on the reflection concept. The research subjects are 31 eighth-grade junior high school students who used this multimedia during four meetings learning. The method used is pre-experimental research withone-shot casestudy design. The results show that the students' communication and collaboration skills increases, shown by the average score of each meeting increases and the change in the low category into the good category. In conclusion, the use of MBI2in science learning materials particularly in the reflection concept can improve the communication and collaboration skills of junior high school students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan upaya memotret kualifikasi literasi digital calon guru berdasarkan Information  and  Communication Technologi Competency Framework For Teachers (ICT-CFT). Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia terus berupaya melengkap dan dan menyempurnakan fasilitas infrastruktur dan suprastruktur Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi untuk civitas akademik khsusunya mahasiwa melalui layanan akses, berbagai aplikasi, pelatihan, dan sertifikasi. Penelitian dilakukan melalui survey online dengan kuesioner literasi digitalterhadap mahasiswa calon guru. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa literasi digital dikalangan mahasiswa calon guru terbangun secara alamiah yang  dipengaruhi lingkungan mereka berada. Lingkaungan yang mendorong terjadinya literasi digital dengan baik diantaranya tugas-tugas mandiri perkuliahan, motivasi intrinsik, dan tuntutan penyelesaian studi selain ketersediaan fasilitas. Mahasiswa semester 1 sampai dengan semester 6 tidak terjadi peningkatan literasi digital dan tidak menujukkan perubahan ekstrim. Mahasiswa semester 7-8 menunjukkan peningkatan literasi digital yang ekstrim dari keadaan sebelumnya. Perubahan ekstrim literasi digital terutama distimulasi oleh kebutuhan personal. Kebutuhan personal dan keterbukaan informasi menjadi trigger terjadinya personal learning yang mandiri dengan baik. Lembaga pendidikan keguruan perlu meningkatkan fasilitasteknologi informasi dan komunikasi dan melakukan pembelakan khusus penigkatan  digital sampai uji kompetensi.

Abstract

Implementation of a good learning process should use appropriate learning media and can support contextual learning, and one such medium is a butterfly house. The research method is quasi-experiment. The result of the research shows that there is an increase of student learning result of biology teacher candidate using butterfly house as a medium of learning in Genetics course significantly in the medium category. This increase is not in the high category because there are many technical obstacles in the process of preserving butterflies, but these are the technical constraints that make the process of solving the problem in maintaining butterflies can be honed. Thus the use of butterfly house as a learning medium of Biology is to bridge the difficulty of studying butterflies in the wild and lack of study of butterflies using the media animation.

Abstract

The study have been conducted to recognize the effect of Science learning based on experiment to improve learning motivation and science process skills (SPS) of PGSD students viewed from school background in light concept and optical instruments. Subject of this research was PGSD students in 3rd semester on 2016/2017 Academic Year which consists of class A and B. The technic of sampling used saturated sampling. The instruments of study were science process skills paper  test and paper of learning motivation questionnaire. The hypotheses were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test. The results of study show that: 1) Science learning with experiment based affected on science process skills and learning motivation of students; 2) there is influence school background toward science process skills and learning motivation of students; 3) Science learning with experiment based and school background have interaction with science process skills and learning motivation of students; 4) Development of science process skills and learning motivation of students have background from Vocational High School (SMK) are better than students have background from Science (IPA) and Social Program of Senior High School (IPS).

Abstract

This research aims to develop mathematics student teacher professional and pedagogical competencies through subject Specific Pedagogy (SSP) workshops by applying cyclic-reflective-collaborative model. The research involved 42 mathematics student teacher of the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program at the Department of Mathematics Education year 2015 and year 2016. The students had one year teaching experience. The workshops were carried out in 10 weeks, 6 cycles, using the design OXO, and focused on developing student abilities in planning educative learning-and-teaching (subject specific pedagogy)—which covers the following program: deepening subject matter knowledge, the development of learning methods and materials, the development of learning media and assessment tools, the development of teaching plans and syllabi, and the implementation of these components in the real classrooms. The strategy, used in the workshops, was a cyclic model: plan-action-reflection (PAR), which is adapted from the lesson study principles: plan-do-see. This strategy was implemented in a cycle of process, product, and open lesson. The instrument included professional and pedagogical competencies test—which covers school mathematics topics grades 7-12. The results showed that SSP workshops with cyclic model, applying the lesson study principles, are effective for developing student professional and pedagogical competencies—in medium level; most of students felt comfortable and were facilitated during the workshops; and the minimum competencies, quantitatively, can be achieved with the improvement is in the medium level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efektivitas penerapan strategi membaca 3-2-1 berbantuan refutation text mereduksi miskonsepsi siswa pada materi fluida statis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa reduksi (penurunan) rata-rata persenrase miskonsepsi siswa sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan adalah sebesar 54,71 %. Terjadi perubahan konseptual  siswa yang signifikan pada materi fluida statis setelah diberikan pembelajaran remediasi melalui penerapan strategi membaca 3-2-1 berbantuan refutation text. Efektivitas penerapan perlakuan ini terhadap reduksi miskonsepsi siswa tergolong tinggi (rata-rata gain  0,82).

Abstract

Fluid pressure is considered as an abstract concept so that innovative method must be used to help the students understand it correctly. We introduced Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) to the students in order to help them grasp the fundamentals of fluid pressure and evaluated how this approach improved their scientific communication ability. Based on their ability in communicating the mechanism of fluid pressure, students’ were able to organize their knowledge, delivering their knowledge to other people, and making better conclusion after the introduction of AST. Thus, it can be concluded that the introduction of AST can improve students’ scientific communication ability.
