Abstract

The objective of research were to synthesize polyurethane from  soybean oil, P EG400 and MDI,  to  determine  the  cross  linking,  and  to  learn  the  influence  of  incubation  times toward  degradability  of polyurethane.   Polyurethane   was  synthesized from  soybean  oil and oxydated soybean oil at room temperature followed  by curing for 10 hours at 70 DC, and  than  at  100 "c for 3 hours.  The synthesis  was  conducted  with  mass  composition SBOI  OSBO  : P EG400  : MDI = 1 : 2  : 3.   Biodegradation   was  conducted  by using microorganism   in  an  actived  sludge   of  malka  medium   at  37°C.    The  variation   of incubation  times were 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 days, respectively  with changes of media every 5 days.  Characterizations   of polyurethane   were functional   groups,  cross  linking, mass loss and biodegradability.  The oxydated soybean  oil has increased intensity of -OR functional   group,  hydroxyl  number,  density,  melting  and  boiling point,  otherwise  the refraction    index   has   decreased.    The   synthesized   polyurethane    has   characteristic absorption  of urethane functional  group and cross link. The increasing of incubation time can  decrease  biodegradability   of polyurethane.   The mass  loss    of polyurethane  from SBO-PEG400-MDI   has  the higher.  Biodegradation   can disappear  urethane  group  and decrease crystallinity  of polyurethane.   Key words: biodegradation,  mass loss, crystallinity, polyurethane

Abstract

The purpose of  this  research   is  developing  preservation   technology  of  the  Pondoh zalacca  and  Zalacca  Gading peel for craft products   material.  The study  begins  with analyzing  content,  water,  carbohydrates, and proteins  in the peel  of zalacca  that is the cause of the growth  of fungus  and microorganisms. The next step is preservation  using borax, formalin, and  chlorine  at concentrations: 2, 4, 6, 8, and  10%. The activity  of fungal   growth  on  the peel  were  observed  in  microscopic,   and  the  characteristics of materials for  craft products  made by observing  the characteristics  of the peel  including the texture, softness,  andfracture. The results showed  that the bark peel has high content of  water which is 74.67% in Pondoh zalacca and 30.06% in zalacca gading. The carbohydrate   content  of  Pondoh  zalacca  peel   at 3.8%,  and  zalacca  gading  peel   at 5.5%. Protein  content at 0.565% in Pondoh zalacca  and 1.815% in zalacca  gading.  The observation for 3 (three) months showed preservation  with borax, formalin,  and chlorine at  all  concentrations  effectively  prevent  fungal   growth.  The  good  peel   elasticity   of Pondoh  zalacca  and  Gading produced by  using borax, formalin, and chlorine  in  the concentration  of below 6%, while giving preservative  chlorine above 4% make the peel a -little whiter, and preservation  of over 4% borax makes chapped peel so it is difficult to be attached to the craft media.   Keywords:  Technology, Preservation,  Zalacca peel, and Art Crafts

Abstract

Complicated  distortion always happens  in metal melting  and freezing  process  on welding.  Up to now,   the   common   method   to   reduce   distortion   are:   base   metal  preheating,    heat   input minimalization,  welding process  sequence,  etc. the last has been used by welders,  however  the sequence oj best effectivity and efficiency has not been yet studied. This research  aims  to know  effect  oj welding process  sequence  by studied 5 different  welding route  related  to angle  distortion (a),  bending  distortion  (B), cross  distortion  (I1L) and  axial distortion (I1P). Welding process used shielded metal arc welding,  base  metal  oj ST 37 and electrode  oj E6013; 2.6 mm and 3.2 mm oj diameter. Four kinds of test used angle gauge oJO.l ° precision  and caliper oj 0.05 mm precision. Based  on the test, it could be known that the lowest angle distortion  took place  on 3 times route that was 3.070,      while  the highest  happened  at 5 times route method  that was 9.230.      the lowest bending distortion  took place  on 1 and 3 times route that ware 1.50 mm and 1.52, respectively, while the highest happened at 5 times route method that was 4.70 mm. Cross distortion and angle distortion  tended  to have lowest distortion  at 3 times route, while  axial distortion  and bending distortion  at 1 and 3 times routes. All that kinds oj distortion had the lowest value at 3 times route which was the best welding route at sheet metal oj 5 mm thickness.   Keywords: welding sequence, SMAW, distortion

Abstract

The paper  summarizes  the experimental  result of flexural  capacity of full scale reinforced concrete beam prepared  as a composite  members consisting  of two concrete layers  made of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced  Concrete (HFRC) and High Strength Concrete (HSC). Compressive  strength and modulus of elasticity test, splitting tensile, flexural  tensile tests conducted  to identify the important mechanical properties of both HFRC and HSC. Every mechanical properties data collected using 3 standard samples based on ASTM and SNI codes. 15 reinforced concrete beams in 150x250x2400 mm dimensions,  usedfor full  scale flexural   test of structural  RC beam.  The tests conducted  on 5 types of composite  beam: 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, and 0% of HSC cross sectional depth, combined with HFRC for the opposite sides. The experimental results indicated that HFRC shows higher modulus elasticity compared with HSC, it was 28618,611MPafor  HFRC,  and 21790,660 MPafor HSC. All types of composite  members  and full   depth  of HFRC  shows  higher first   crack  load  capacity compared  with HSC structural reinforced  concrete  beam. The first  crack  load capacity increase ranging from 29,753%  up to 33,267%. All types of composite  members and full depth of HFRC also shows higher maximum load capacity compared with HSC structural reinforced concrete beam. The first  crack load capacity  increase ranging from  11,284% up to 16,03%. Based on the experimental  test results, it can be suggested  to apply partial depth of HSC and HFRC; 50% HSC and 50% HFRC on static determinate  RC beam. Abstract

The purpose of this study, are (1) to compare the wear of a single cutter with a double cutter with the use of different  cooler  viscosity, (2)  to determine  the effect of cooller  viscosity  to cutter  wear,  and (3) find  a suitable  viscosity,  cooling  to reduce  cutter  wear.  The workpiece  material  is  VCN  150 ø 1.75  inches  with  a length of cut is 200 mm. Variables that are altered depth of cut. The depth of cut is defined  initial minus end diameter  divided  by two. The depth of cut for  a double edged pieces  with  a single piece. Cutter  wear  modifications   largest  taken from each  eye piece for  comparison  with  a single cutter.  Research  steps  undertaken were  as follows:   wear  to keep records  of each  viscosity  cooling,  ie 14.5 poise, poise 24.8, 35.6 poise,  and poise  while the depth of 49.2 pieces  0.5; 1; 1.5; and 2 mm. Each observation   performed 3 times and subsequently taken average. Comparing  the  wear  obtained  in cutting  using  single  and  double  cutting.  The results  of this study  are as follows: (1) a reduction  in the cutter  wear  double edged pieces  of 18.64% compared  with a single cutter with variable thickness and depth of cut cooling. (2) work without  cooling  wear  very  large,  so  that  liquid cooling is needed in the process  of cutting the workpiece, (3) become less viscous cooling is used, a reduction  in wear and tear on the range.  Wear and tear occurs in the thickness of the smallest 14.5 poise. Keywords: cooling, wear, and the depth of cut
