Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe teacher´s and student´s reaction to Arabic language errors in Madrasah Aliyah Keagamaan (MAK). It uses a quality design and is conducted in the first year of MAK Malang. The results of this study are: (a) twelve teacher´s reactions to student´s error is using Arabic, (b) three time categories used by teacher reacting to errors, (c) only one student´s reaction to teacher´s reaction, and (d) of the twlve teacher´s reactions, ignoring language errors is the dominant one.

Abstract

Wild Type Genes Of Germplasms In Sacred Places. Germplasms of wild type species containing wild type genes, which are often found in sacred places, are in danger, particularly due to the change in view of the local people toward the sacredness of the places. Efforts are needed to save the germplasms especially those containing wild type genes. The efforts protect include (a) to establish the sacred places by law as conservation areas, (b) to their survival in special places under the condition of a “gemplasms bank”, and (c) to provide environment education through formal, informal, and non-formal education.

Abstract

Taxonomy of instructional variables. Theoretically, instructional variables may be classified into three groups: instructional conditions, instructional methods, and instructional outocomes. Instructional conditions are variables which interact with a methods and cannot be manipulated by an instructional designer, i.e., goals, subjects-matter characteristics, constraintas, and learner characteristics. Instructional methods are ways of achieving different outcomes under different conditions, i.e., organizational strategies, delivery strategies, and management strategies. And instructional outcomes are various effects of instructional methods under different conditions.

Abstract

Contrastive Analysis Hypotesis Versus Creative Construction Hypotesis: A Case Study. The contrastive analysis hypotesis suggest that second language acquisition in that learners attempt to test hypothesis about linguistics rules and that the first language does not exert influence on it. The debate between the two hypotheses gets heated when both seek supports of the markednes theory. The purpose this case study was determine which learning strategywas typical in second language learning. The data for the study were collected from three subjects who showed different levels of proficiency in English. The results of the analysis suggest that Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis based strategies environment with limited input. This strategy is more likely for communicatin than for production. In general, however, Creative-Construction-Hypothesis based strategies seemed to be prefeered by second language learners.

Abstract

Drosophila Species And Tehe Possibiliteies Of Inter-Species Hybridization. The Study Was Intended To Determine Drosopihila Species In Malang Municipality And The Possibility Of Interspecies Hybridization. A sample of 894 fruit flies were collected at 9 market places in the town of Malang and classified according to their species. A species of local Drosophila was hybridized to D. melanogaster. Nine species of the local Drosophila were: D. (Sophora) simulans, D. (Sophopora) bipectinata, D. sp., D. (Sophophora) denticulate, D. (Sophophora) serrata, D. (Sophophora) pseudotakashii, and D. (Sophophora) cf. ananassae. The exact name of a D. sp. Spesies could not be identified. One species, i.e., D. (Sophophora) pseudotakahashii, has so far been reported to avalaible only in Australia; however, not a single D. malanogaster was found. Te result of interspecies hybridization through the postponement of their mating time suggest that inter species hybridization is possible-a case which deviates from the concept that fertilization is only possible among members of the same species.

Abstract

Relation Between Reading Interst And Language Aptitude To Reading Comprehession Of Senior High School Students. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between reading interest and language aptitude to reading compreheship, and the differences in reading interest, language aptitude, and reading compreension between students in programs of phisis, biology, social sciences, and language at the Senior High School. A questionnaire, a language aptitude test, and a cloze test were appied to the data. The results of the analyses suggest that (1) there is no significant positive correlation between reading interst and reading comprehension, (2) there is a significant positive correlation between language aptitude and reading comprehension, (3) there are significant differences in reading interest and reding comprehension between students in the programs of physics, biology, social sciences, and language aptitude between students in the four programs at the Senior High School.

Abstract

The Students Perceptions Of The Teaching-Learning Process In The Classroom And The Achievement Students Majoring In Physics Education. The study was intended to determine factors affecting learning achievement of students majoring in physics education. The variables investigated were student´s perception about classroom teaching-learning process, study habits, entry behaviors, motivation in making progress, intelligence, and achievement. The data were collected using a questionnaire, a test, and documents from 106 students majoring in physics education in the four year dgree program (S-1 program) at IKIP Malang. The finding suggest that there are significant and positive correlations between sudy habits, entry behaviors, motivatin in making progress, intlligence, and achievement physics courses.

Abstract

Problems in collecting data for research on second language learning strategies. Verbal reports, both introspection and retrospection, have been commonly used in research on second language learning strategies. The potential weakness lays much on the veridicality of the data, distortion of the mental process as a result of external intervention, and reliability. Despite the weaknesses, verbal reports remain a useful tool as long as its quality is improved. In designing a method of eliciting verbal reports, care should be taken of the objective of data collection, language task, informant, and format of the instrument

Abstract

In the last two decades action research, particularly classroom-based action research (CAR), is becoming more and more polular as a modus of study for solving problems related to teaching-learning activities. This resurection in part is a logical consequence of failures demonstrated by many big-scale academic studies to provide useful information and applicable solutions to problems related to teaching-learning processes constatntly faced by teachers in their classrooms. Too academic research plans and inflexible research designs and procedures seem to have yielded these poor results. CAR on the other hand is normally developed on the basis of real classroom situations. With this approach, and the possibility to repeat the procedures of CAR without disrupting normal classroom climate it is expected that useful information could be collected and applicable solutions of classroom problems could be formulated. However there are critiques aimed to CAR especially related to the validity of the design and the reliability of the procedures.

Abstract

Meaning and Utilizing of Statistical Significance Testing in Educational Research. Many educational researchers use statistical significance testing. In interpreting their results, however, there are some misunderstanding by describing the results as significant, when there are in fact trivially small and unimportant. A test of statistical significance addresses the question, how likely is a result, assuming the null hypothesis is true. It does not speak to the probability that the null hypothesis or an alternative hypothesis is true or false, to the probability that a result would be replicated, or to treatment effects, nor is it a valid indicator of the magnitude or the importance of a result. There are several things researchers can do to minimize the importance of statistical significance testing. First, effect size should be reported along with measures of sampling error. Second, it is necessary to insert statistically in front of significant in research report. Third, results of data analysis should be interpretated before p value is reported. Fourth, replication can be built into the design.
