The Effect of Faulty Design on Construction Defects in Public Housing Products

Abstract

A construction is defective when there is failure or shortcoming in the function, performance, statutory or user requirements of the structure, fabric, services, or other facilities. An increase in the construction defects can also be attributed to faulty designs. Many problems arise where design is satisfactory in principle but has a low probability of achievement in practice. This research sets out to investigate and to analyze the impacting factors in design, which affect construction defects and their overall relative importance based on the procurement of public housing. It has shown that aspects in faulty design causing the construction defects can be ordered according to frequency of occurrence within each group of defects, namely: structural defects, roof works defects, walls and finishes defects, floor and finishes defects, openings works defects, and sanitary-electrical defects. According to the different views of defects given by groups of respondent, faulty design in housing products are not merely associated with physical evidences found on site. In term of application during design process, there are many other aspects impacting the results. Some errors and active failures done by the designers as individual or as a team, direct influence of workplace, and organizational factors, are believed to have contributions over the faulty designs that lead to construction defects.

Abstract

The lack of wood-based burning materials becomes an obstacle in roof tile production processes. Sekam is an alternative burning material that needs to develop due to its burning capacity, large volume, and low price. The objective of this research is to reveal: (1) the difference of efficiency rate in burning process cost between wood-based burning materials and sekam, and (2) the difference of brick quality between those burnt by wood-based burning materials and sekam . Sampling area is determined by using purposive sampling method. It utilizes wood-based burning materials gathered from Dau and Mojosongo, and sekam gathered from Trowulan. Data are collected by using interviews, observation, documentation, and laboratory tests. Data are analyzed by using descriptive method, difference test (t-test), and covarian (F). The analyses results show that (1) there is no significant difference in cost efficiency between wood-based and ­ sekam -used burning processes, and (2) the sekam-used burning process tends to result better brick quality than those using wood-based burning materials.

Abstract

To avoid lost, some concrete brick industries mix Brabdong sand with Gua sand. This research is set out to identify the mixture composition which fulfills the quality standard. The object of this research is concrete brick specimen with mixture composition 1 portland cement: 7 sand, meanwhile the various composition of brojong and gua sand are set as independent variables. This research uses experimental method–case study with descriptive analysis, varian, and scheffe. The results show that the concrete brick with mixture composition 75% brandong sand and 25% gua sand has best quality. It has massive density, low water absorption capacity, and fulfills compression strength standard of 26.724 kg/cm2.

Abstract

The development of tunggal nuts powder as new food ingredients can be utilized for various kinds of cookies. This research sets out to identify the duration time and temperature needed for seeding the tunggak nuts in powder making. The designed seeding processes can increase the nutritious and absorption rate of food. Some important factors impacting type and acceleration of nutritious component changes during seeding process are temperature and duration time. The experiment is designed by using Complete Random Factorial with two favtors as: seeding temperature (3 levels) and seeding duration (4 levels). Each process is repeated three times. The results show that at 35 0 C temperature and 36 hours seeding gives best quality powder with composition: 27.23% proteine, 74.79% absorption rate, 8.99% of sugar reduction, 1.41% fat, and 140.98 mg FFA KOH / 100 gr of sample.

Abstract

One of the ways in preventing fish from rotting is by adding humectant. This study experimented three percentages of three different humectant adding.This humectant adding is 40%, 30%, and 20% for two diffenrent sizes of fish big and small. The purpose was to find out whether adding humectant and sizes of fish influence protein, taste, color, aroma, and shell life product. The analysis used in this study is anava and continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test . The result shows that adding humectant and the size of fish influenced the protein content, color, and the taste of salted fish, however, they did not influence the aroma.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of body during standing lathe student training on change of body angle (CBA) and working productivity. This was an experimental study using comparative control group design. The population was participants of manual lathe working training in Balai Latihan Kerja Industri dan Pengembangan (BLKIP) Surabaya. Samples were selected using criteria and in random. The sample size of upright standing (US)/control group was 10 subjects, half-sitting with support group was (HSWNS) 10 subjects, and half-sitting with support (HSWS) group 10 subjects. Results showed that, first, CBA US standing posision higher than CBA HSWNS and HSWS standing position group. Second, lathe working productivity HSWNS and HSWS standing position was significantly similar, but higher than US standing position.

Abstract

The key for performance quality in industrial sectors is held by the quality of human resources, particularly in the level of technicians. The technicians are the main generator in enhancing the industry itself. To produce well-qualified vocational output, it requires the quality of curriculum. Mean-while, the curriculum developed in Indonesia is grouped into three categories: empirical and analytical paradigm, symbolic paradigm, and analytical-critical paradigm. The last paradigm is considered as industry-based curriculum paradigm. This industry-based curriculum has two main essences as vision and commitment. The stated vision must involve business realm, industry, and its stakeholders for establishing the desired curriculum. The stated commitment has to involve all parties to be responsible for the quality of the output.

Abstract

Suatu kecenderungan menunjukkan bahwa cadangan energi yang berasal dari minyak dan gas bumi akan semakin menipis, menuntut adanya pemanfaatan energi alternatif yang bersifat terbarukan (renewable) dan akrab lingkungan. Dalam rangka mencari bentuk-bentuk sumber energi yang bersih dan terbarukan kembali, energi angin mendapat perhatian yang besar. Di beberapa wilayah tertentu di Indonesia mempunyai energi angin yang cukup potensial untuk dimanfaatkan. Untuk itu diperlukan suatu strategi dalam pemanfaatan energi angin tersebut agar diperoleh hasil yang efisien dan tepat guna. Hal ini dapat dilakukan melalui desain dan manufaktur sistem kincir angin yang aplicable dengan didahului adanya kajian potensi angin dan keperluan sistem alat yang akan digerakkan serta beberapa faktor terkait lainnya.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to establish the integrated LPA model for Surabaya Metropolitan Area. The methods used are literature overviews, comparative studies to well-established areas, and expert assistantships through national seminars. The result shows that the integrated LPA has opportunity to combine some activities such as sorting and classifying, producing, wrapping and containing, selling the compost and decayed materials, and filling residual waste by landfill system. In 25 Ha land area, 14.10 Ha is allocated for waste management, and 10.90 Ha for sanitary landfill.

Abstract

Schedule Nervousness is defined as the number of time and amount changes in planning of order releases. It is one of the factors affecting execution effectiveness on MRP system. The purpose of this research is to evaluate factors predicted affecting nervousness on MRP system by using simulation method. The main factors considered include forecasting accuracy, orgering, and leadtime uncertainty. This research will also evaluate the effect of selection of lot-sizing decision and cost structure ob MRP system nervousness by using experimental simulation. The result shows that the most affecting factor on schedule nervous-ness is cost structure. According to the result, it concludes that the most effective technique for reducing nervousness, firstly, is to lessen natural order cycle by shortening set up duration and using just-in-time elements. Secondly, is to select lor-sizing method properly.
