Abstract

Indonesia is a mega-biodiversity country that has a number offlora and fauna number 2worldwide. Biological diversity useful for the purposes offood, clothing, and shelter. Based on theresults of pre-study showed that the majority (80%) of biodiversity in school learning use thelecture method and of course have not touched the realm of attitudes to conserve. The goal of theresearch is to develop the attitude of preserving biodiversity in the candidate educators throughlearning outside the classroom and challenging task. Subjects in this study were students ofbiology education study program participant subjects generation plant diversity by 2012 consist of36 students, 5 male students, and 31 female students. This type of research is the ClassroomAction Research (CAR) conducted during two cycles, the research approach is qualitativedescriptive. Data analysis was done by triangulation of data and percentages. Observationsattitudes using Likert scale, observation sheets, and field notes. The results showed no increase inthe attitude of students as prospective educators before the first cycle, at the end of the first cycleand the end of the second cycle. Biology teacher recommended to apply this method, method toconduct learning outside the classroom and give challenging task in middle and high schoolstudents.Keywords: biodiversity, learning outside the classroom, challenging task

Abstract

Food Technology is one ofoptional courses in Biology Teacher Training and EducationProgram Sebelas Maret University, which aims to provide students with knowledge and skill onhow to technology in processing raw material offood. The purpose ofthis study is to increase oneof the aspects of life skills, i.e. vocational skills of students in producing a healthy and innovativefood product. This research was a three-cycles action research using a project-based learning, andeach cycle consisted of four steps, i.e. planning, action, observing, and reflecting. The participantof the research was third semester of students of Biology Teacher Training and Education whotook the course in academic year 2013/2014. Data was collected through questionnaire sheet,observation sheet, and documentation of student’s portfolio. All data was analyzed descriptively.The result ofthe research is the project-based learning significantly increased the vocational skillsofstudents in seven indicators.Keywords: project-based learning, food technology, vocational skills

Abstract

Botany vascular plants or Botani Tumbuhan Bertalus (BTB’s) is one of the lecturesubject for undergraduate students both programs biological education student and biologicalstudent. This subject loaded with concept and knowledge and dexterity are in the implementationdifficult separated between laboratory work and the theory. As a result it is difficult for students tolearn and for lecturers to lecturing.The requirement to competence can be achieved by collegestudents among other reasons, required a description knowledge and development oforgans fromlecture subject prerequisite, exercise, perseverance, independence of college students, theavailability of materials, skill of the analysis of the phenomena of ingredients, refrences, lectur’sguidance and motivation student.Reference to competence and armed with skillfulness and thebeginning knowledge of a student who obtained independently, implemented the Problem BasedLearning ( PBL ) on BTB’s course that motivates college students to discover the potential ofhimself. Research aims to improve motivation and result study from applied Self RegulatedLearning and PBL. The lesson started with the observations on the phenomenon and the facts ofmaterial obtained continued with the analysis of reference in literature , reported an independentand structured as a task .Then performed sharing in the class of the analysis of description,classifications , naming , the preparation of the key identification , the level of determination ofthe taxa , taxa special features and features lateral extent , as well as analysis ofthe links betweenthe group of vascular plants .All learning activities under the guidance lecturers. Abstract

Natural potentials in the Terdepan, Terluar,Tertinggal (3T) regions can be used byscience teachers as a learning medium interesting for students in elementary school. Using of realmedium is a solution for teachers to improve science skills and to introduce potential areas forstudents. The purpose of this research are to give information on how to use the natural potentialas a real medium for science lesson in elementary school and using realia media can improve theskills of science. Types of research is classroom action research with two cycles. Data obtainedfrom observations, area studies and document analysis of regional potential. These results indicatethat the potential of the area can be used as a medium of realia in science teaching in the 3Tregions and the using of realia medium can improve the science skill by 6.25%.Keywords: science skills, 3T potential regions, real medium

Abstract

The objective was to study the effect of cooperative learning strategy of NumberedHeads Together (NHT) on critical thinking ability in Biology of the tenth grade-students at theState Senior High School of SMA Negeri 1 Wori in North Minahasa Regency. Method of theresearch used the quasi experiment design of pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design.Populations of the research were the tenth grade-students from four classes, and samples of theresearch were two classes, class Xa (experiment) and Xb (control), which included 60 students.Data of the research was collected by pretest-posttest technique and using critical thinking abilitytest. And then, data ofthe research was analyzed using descriptive statistics and anacova statisticalanalysis. Result of the research showed the effect of NHT-cooperative learning strategy on theincreasing ability ofcritical thinking ofthe students in comparison with the conventional one.Keywords: Numbered Heads Together, critical thinking, biology, students

Abstract

The students interest can be influenced by the learning model chosen by teachers. Theselection of appropriate learning models can help to increase the interest in learning thateventually affects the motivation of learning. The purpose of this study is to identify theimplementation of problem-based learning model against the motivation to learn Biology in theclass VII ofmaterial environmental pollution. This type ofresearch is a classroom action research.This research was conducted through two cycles of the students in the class VII on Islamic JuniorHigh School Tambakboyo Tuban Academic Year 2013/2014 of 33 students. The results of thisstudy show that the average results ofstudents learning motivation questionnaire on the first cycleof 72.12% with the criteria motivated enough and rising to the second cycle of 86.24% with thehighly motivated criteria. The conclusion is the application of problem-based learning model canimprove students motivation of Islamic junior class VII 4-5 Tambakboyo of materialenvironmental pollution.Keywords: students’ learning motivation, problem-based-learning

Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect portfolio of Cell Biology student motivation.Sampling was by purposive sampling in the second semester students of academic year2012/2013. The collection of portfolio performed all learning tasks consists worksheets, criticalanalysis, papers, journals learning and quiz. The research method is experimental. Portfolioassessed by peer students and lecturers with categorized: completeness, clarity, suitability anddocumentation. Data motivation using a questionnaire with indicators: a) accept personalresponsibility, b) able to complete task, c) rational and critical, d) liked the job situation. Dataanalysis portfolio and motivation descriptively, whereas the effect on the motivation of the use ofportfolio analyzed by linear regression using SPSS. The results showed relationship a portfolio ofstudent learning motivation in Biology Sel. Regression analysis found 0,000 <0.05 with a value ofR is 0.921. The magnitude effect of the portfolio of 84.8% against 15.2% the motivation to learnand more influenced by other factors.Keywords: portfolio, motivasi belajar, biologi sel

Abstract

This reasearch aims to find-out: (1) the effect of mind habit by using portofolioassessment. (2) the effect of concept mastery through implementation of portofolio assessment.This research was conducted to science ninth graders of SMAN X Bandung on 2012/2013academic year. The sample of this research was 48 students. The data were collected for sevenmeetings by applying two concepts; ecretion and nervous systems. The instruments used in thisstudy ;Habit of Mind Questionnaires, Test of Secretion and Nervous System Concepts, andQuestionnaire of Students’ views about learning process.The results of this research showed thatcategory of critical thinking and self regulation improved and stayed in middle level, meanwhilecreative thinking is on low level. Students’ concept mastery of ecretion and nervous systemsimproved after portofolio assessment implemented. The Average of the improvement stayed inhigher standard 0,55 from 0,31. For over all, the students gave positive responds for the use ofportfolio assessment.Keywords: habits ofmind, concept mastery, portofolio assessment

Abstract

This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was implemented withlesson study that was carried out in 2 cycles in the period ofJanuary 10, 2014 to March 12, 2014.The objectives of this research are to improve the science process skills, metacognitive skills andlearning outcomes of biology by implementation of guided inquiry method. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve the activity of the working group studysubjects with a high school biology curriculum materials to formulate indicators throughcooperative learning model based Lesson Study. The subjects studied are students of S1 ProdiBiology Education V semester who take courses Assessing middle and high school biologycurriculum. Research-based Lesson Study is conducted in stages Plan, namely stages ofpreparingLesson Plan; Do, namely the implementation and observation; and See, that is the analysis andreflection for improvement next meeting. Data were collected through observation, analysis ofdocuments, interviews, and questionnaires. The results showed that increased activity group workaccumulated on student interaction in the learning process. Interactions in group work there wasan increase in each cycle, the first cycle of student interaction in the learning process reaches83.5%, cycle 2, cycle 3 and cycle 4 reaches 100%, meaning that all group members listen peertutoring activities, activity inquire, issuing activity opinions, and always respect the opinionsekelompoknya friends, so that the interaction between students and students, students withlearning resources and students with teachers.Keywords: Activities Working Group, Preparing Indicators, Model Cooperative Learning, LessonStudy
