Abstract

Science and technology have given society many advantages, despite the fact that they also create certain anxiety. Humanistic education together with religious education could protect society from the negative effects of science and technology. With humanistic education, school will produce mature generation as human beings and good citizens rather than mere robotic workers. More well planned studies on all aspects of education need to be done to achieve the intended goal.

Abstract

The replication study examines whether the students-perceived role of English in the completion of their studies is also shared by their instructors, and whether increasing the sample size would also increase the validity coefficients of the instruments used as Graduate Program Admission Tests at the State University of Malang Graduate Program. New data were collected using questionnaires and documents. The result shows that, inspite of the lack of relationship between students English and their GPA, both students and instructors believe that English has an important role in the completion of graduate studies. It also indicates that the increase of sample size has decreased the validity coeffients of all the instruments

Abstract

This study examined the level of students logical thinking ability and the level of students understanding in geometry, and also the relationship between the students level of logical thinking and students level of understanding in geometry. The tests of logical thinking and geometry concept development level were administered to 387 students of the third year science classes selected from 10 State Senior High Schools in Jember, East Java. The results indicated that 8.01%, 24.81%, 29.97%, 37.21% students were respectively at concrete, transition, early formal, and formal levels; and 14.47%, 31.52%, 40.05%, 13.44%, 0.52%, 0% were at previsualization, visualization, analysis, informal deduction, deduction, and rigor respectively. There was a significant relationship between students level of logical thinking ability and their level of understanding in geometry

Abstract

This study investigated the difference in teachers education level and teaching competence, leadership behaviour and their contribution to education reform. The data were collected through a questionnaire, self-assessment and a leadership checklist, and were then analyzed using multiple analyses of varianve. The findings reveal that there is no difference in teaching competence among elementary school teachers graduating from Senior High School (SLTA), Program D-2 and S-1 Program. The leadership behavior of the S-1 graduates is better than that of the SLTA and D-2 graduates; and the leadership behaviour of the SLTA graduates is better than that of the D-2 graduates

This study was intended to investigate whether students achievement can be improved by using map and globe in sosial studies. An experimental design was applied in this study. The subjects were randomly selected from the 4-th graders of an elementary school in Padang Municipality. The data were then analyzed by t-test. Abstract

he study is intended to create a model for developing and implementing TQM and increasing the quality of academic service system at the State University of Malang. It is an action research involving those directly working in the academic service system. The findings indicate that the model for developing and implementing TQM increases the quality of the academic service system. The effectiveness is indicated by the increased quality of the academic service system as measured by the increase of satisfaction of the clients, the greater ability of the system to meet the need and expectation of the clients, and the greater involvement of individuals and institutions within the academic service system
