Abstract

The concern of private organization to educate the citizen by setting-up private universities has become the foundation for the sustainability of national education. Since the beginning, private universities have had the habit of being independent in their administrative as well as academic matters. Some factors should be taken into considerations by private universities in order that their participation in keeping the sustainability of national education is significant. These factors are, among others, the willingness to learn from the mistakes in the past, to learn the mis-management of state universities, to adopt the new paradigm, to comprehend the national education policy, to comprehend the current paradigm of higher education, and to have continuing self-evaluation

Abstract

The low budget and equal opportunity in education which become the orientation of the education policies are resulted in the quality of universities in Indonesia which were lower than other Asian universities. Consequently, the development of professional human resources would not go smoothly. To resolve this, the government needs to apply a new paradigm to develop the universities by changing the orientation of education development policy, increasing the educational budget as well as declaring the universities as the center of nation development

Abstract

Implementing the autonomy in both provinces and districts will have significant implication to education system. In one hand, it is an opportunity for empowering human resources in provinces and districts independently. On the other hand, it is districts challenges, because the provinces and districts must be facilitated with lots of factors, mainly human resources factor with its high competencies. These human resources must be developed prior being used as agents of changes in their own districts. Abstract

This research was aimed at analysing the content of reference books used in theories of learning courses and the efforts to understand them. This research was held in the Department of Educational Technology, State University of Surabaya. The data were gathered by using questionnaires, documentations, and observations, and were then analysed by descriptive statistics. The result showed that the references were relevant to theories of learning subject, the students did not find difficulties in studying the references, and that the references helped the students in writing papers and achieving better outcomes

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the development of continuing education programs to equip santri of pondok pesantren with knowledge and skills to support their lives. A case study design was implemented in this study which took place in Pondok Pesantren Nurul Jadid, Situbondo, East Jawa. The subjects were kyai, officials of the pesantren, ustad, santri and alumni of the pesantren selected purposively. The data were collected by interviews, observations and documents, and then analyzed by a reflective approach. It was found out that the pesantren has formulated their vision, mission, and (educational) aims. All of these were aimed to provide the santri with a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills, so that they will be able to earn for their living, and to help them prepare their lives in the hereafter

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary approach in improving academic performance among learning disabled students. The subjects consisted of 61 first graders having learning disability and were randomly assigned to a multidisciplinary group receiving both educational and medical services, an educational group with educational services only, a medical group with medical services only, and a control group. The results indicated that the multidisciplinary and the educational groups were significantly better than the medical and the control groups. No significant differences were found between the multidisciplinary and the educational groups, nor between the medical and the control groups

Abstract

This study was designed to improve teachers ability in teaching science and students achievement at the third grade of Elementary School. It was conducted in SDN Dukuh Menanggal IV, Surabaya. The approach applied was classroom action research (CAR) consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. In this CAR, the learning through direct experience and learning cycle were implemented. The results revealed that the teachers ability was improved so that the students achievement in science was also improved.

Abstract

This research was aimed at identifying actions that can be performed to help students overcome the difficulties in solving one step word problems. The research used descriptive qualitative approach. The type of research was participant action research. In this research, it was found out that by using approaches such as translation, simulation, making picture, dialogue, group activity, planting concept of addition and substraction using one-time saving and borowing technigues, rereading the original story of the word problems, checking mathematical sentences that had been made, and recomputing, students can solve the one-step word problems well in terms of its solving steps
