Abstract

Human opinion, practical attitude, emotion, and egoism have dominant effects upon the actualization of a basic concept. To anticipate the probable changes or deviations, one needs to contemplate or review the basic concept and context of Islamic education from the most essential point of view, i.e. ontological and axiological point of view. By applying a descriptive-comparative method, critical-historical analysis, and reflective-inductive-deductive thinking, we will be able to discover a new ontological and axiological systesis and view about Islamic education that can bring us to the understanding of the philosophy of Islam.

Abstract

Facing 21st century, human resources play a dominant role in accelerating the national growth and development. University, as a subsystem of the national education system, has to prepare its students to be members of Indonesian society having academic capabilities and professional skills in developing science, technology, and art to improve the quality of societal life and to enrich our national culture. An optimistic vision in the scientific community should be developed continuously. the development of science, technology, and art has to be oriented to the needs of national development. University poses itself to be a scientific-dynamic community having understanding of national culture and personality, and appreciating and implementing the Five Principles (Pancasila)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether self-concept of EFL teachers influenced their effectiveness in teaching English as a foreign language, as perceived by both teachers and students. The study involved 275 EFL teachers and 88 senior high school students in South Sumatra. Variables of education, teaching experience, and age were analyzed using multiple regression analysis, and specific hypotheses were tested to see whether the addition of the other independent variables could add to the effectiveness of the teacher. The results showed significant relationships between self-concept and all the four factors used to define teacher effectiveness. The combination of self-concept and experience serves as the first salient factor influencing the four factors of teacher effectiveness in addition to self-concept alone. Education was also found to be a factor which influenced teacher effectiveness

Abstract

The implementation of learning process in counterpart institutions should be taken into account, because the process is not managed by teacher bu by a business enterprise. The purpose of this study is to describe the expectation and implementation of the learning process, especially in selection of students, realization of instruction and evaluation, students readiness, instructors readiness, institutions readiness, and pupil management. The sample consists of 59 students, 30 instructors, and 30 business enterprises from seven municipalities in East Java. Data are collected by questionnaire and analysed statistically in percentages and mean measures. The results reveal that selection of students is good, realization of instruction is good, evaluation is good, students readiness and instructors readiness are moderate, institutions readiness is good, and pupil management is good

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore if students were reached by HIV/AIDS Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) strategic intervention. Three hundred students, 150 males and 150 females, from IKIP Ujung Pandang were purposively selected as respondents. A questionnaire was given to collect data. The study revealed that students were reached by the HIV/AIDS messages. The concern and awareness of students for HIV/AIDS were positive and high although their knowledge was relatively low. Religious and moral state played significant roles in affecting students behavior toward HIV/AIDS. Most respondents believed that HIV/AIDS education programs directed to the university campuses are recommended
