Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the transition of basic education and compulsory educations concept in Indonesia stipulated in the educational fundamental laws implemented during 1950-2003. Analysis has been developed based on R. Thomas Murrays method focusing on the definition, purpose, and scope of basic education in each law. The study found that the purposes of basic education have shiffed from education based on students development-orientation to education based on labor work, and in the newest version, the orientation has been defined as the preparation for secondary education. The concept of basic education is not clearly described in the latest legislation. Transition also occurs in the concept of compulsory education, where the concept of universal education has been changed to compulsory education with local government being responsible to create a 12-year compulsory education system.

Abstract

This research aimed to obtain a narrative description of students thought patterns on their consumptive behaviors and the work ethos in self-management relating to their consumptive motives. The research was conducted using  focused ethnography on senior high school students in three Indonesian coastal metropolitan cities. Following, this research, a self-help book was constructed  increase students awareness of their"budgeting intelligence and their local wisdom.

Abstract

Leadership, Managerial Skills, Conflict Management, Stress-resilience Capacity, and Teachers Performance. This article described the correlation between leadership behavior, manage­rial skill, management conflict, and durability of teachers job with teachersworking performance. The population of the study is the state elementary teachers in Ambon, from 142 state elementary schools. Proportional random sampling  technique is used resulted in 332 subjects in this study. In collecting the data, the questionnairre is used as the instrument. Descriptive and Structural Equation Modeling  tech­niques are applied in analyzing the data. The result of descriptive analysis show that all the variables can be categoreized as good. In general, the result of SEM analysis can be described that there are  the positive and significant correlation between leadership behavior, managerial skill, management con­flict, durability of teachers job with teachers working performance at state elemantary teachers in Ambon.

Abstract

Teacher Taskforce-based Training Model to Improve the Ability to Develop Class-based As­sessment Instruments. This R & D project was aimed at demonstrating the most effective model, out of three training models-Teachers Working Group (KKG)-Practice-Reflection (KPR), Modelling-Practice-Reflection (MPR), and Telling-Practice-Reflection (CPR). The first model was de­veloped based on orientation re­sults. This model was validated by educational experts and practitioners and was tried-out so as to result in a model which was more appropriate for primary schools. In the stage of semi-summative evaluation for the final design, an experiment was conducted to identify the most ef­fective model. The experiment employed a factorial design. The findings show that MPR was the most effective model. This model was perceived as the one which was beneficial to improve the teachers capability in designing the in­struments of classroom-based assessment for science teaching. In addition, the model could improve the teachers knowledge of classroom-based assessment, and could help them design better classroom-­based assessment instruments. The second most effective model was KPR. Even though this model was perceived as less beneficial than MPR, with training carried out twice, it could improve the teachers capability in designing the instruments of classroom-based as­sessment as effective as that of MPR model.

Abstract

Instructional Model to Teach Biography Writing using Quantum Teaching-learning Strategies. The study was aimed at developing a model for the teaching of biography writing using quantum learning strategy. To devise the model, three main steps were taken: pre-development of the model, development of the model, and examination of the effectiveness of the model. The research re­sults are three models: 1) syllabus and evaluation system for the teaching of biography writing, 2) learn­ing materials and VCD, and 3) teaching scenario. Quantitative data analysis shows that the three models have a relatively high degree of effectiveness. In addition, there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores on biography writing ability using quantum learning strategy (p < .001). So, it can be concluded that the three models of learning sets are effective and have significant effects on the improvement of biography writing ability of the students.

Abstract

Professionalism of the Faculty Members against the Quality Assurance Program. This article reports on a research project aimed at describing the faculty members professionalism at the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Malang. The study was conducted on the premise that faculty members bear three principal tasks: devising teaching and learning instruc­tions, conducting research, and providing services for the community. A descriptive research project carried out within the specific setting (thus, a case) of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, this study involved 57 faculty members, which means the whole members. Observation checklist and question­naire were used as research instruments. One of the salient findings of the project is that a big number of the faculty members hold Sarjana academic qualification. In terms of research and public service, the faculty members participation level can be considered low. In addition, ICT has not been used in teach­ing-learning activities. Accordingly, based on these findings, the faculty members professionalism at the Mechanical Engineering Study Program has not met the stipulated criteria of quality assurance.

Abstract

The Influences of CTL Teaching-learning on the Learning Achievement of Primary School Students. The main purpose of this study was knowing whether using Contextual Teaching and Learn­ing (CTL) approach was more effective than Textual Teaching and Learning (TTL) approach in mathematics study. The samples of this study were 85 students from class VA and VB of Ngesrep 01/02 Elementary School at Semarang. The instruments in this study were (1) learning achievement test (2) observation sheet of students activity (3) observation sheet of teachers activity. The result of this study are (1) the mathematics learning result especially at fraction topic of student with CTL instruction approach is at good level; (2) the mathematics learning result especially at fraction topic of student with TTL instruction approach is at middle level; (3) teacher teaching activity especially at fraction topic by CTL is good; (4) the mathematics learning result of students with CLT instruction approach is higher than the mathematics learning result especially at fraction topic of student with TTL instruction ap­proach.
