Abstract

Item validity is applied in educational and psychological research through item analysis to enhance the reliability of respondent scores. Recently, there are a couple of inappropriate ways of treating item validity, which neither ensures the reliability nor justifies the validity of the measurement. Similar cases also happen in the application of reliability coefficient.

Abstract

This article is intended as a sumplement to Ketidaktepatan Penggunaan Validitas Butir dan Koefisien Reliabilitas dalam Penelitian Pendidikan dan Psikologi article. The author suggests the interpretation given by earlier measurement specialists to item-total correlation indices as part of item reliability index, instead of item validity index. The index for item validity should be related to some other criteria out of the instrument being developed. Meanwhile, related to the issue of testing some hypothezised reliability coefficient (KR-20 or Cronbach Alpha), the author suggests that F distribution or its related confident interval be used, as developed and suggested by Feldt (1965).

Abstract

Development approach from centralization to decentralization implies the implementation of education decentralization. The purpose of this writing is to discuss problems related to the objective of education, the authority relation of district/city, the limits of authority, and the support of independency and interdependency. Such problems influence the school in ensuring the quality of education and imply the need for human as well as financial resources. It seems that education decentralization needs to be redefined. Empowering the school can be done through strengthening the curriculum to guarantee the relevance and the accountability of the education, improving the school-based management, self financing, and establishing networks between the school and government, community, and stakeholders.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to develop instructional materials on moral education including the teachers guide, and to develop tests fa-cilitating the implementation of moral dilemma discussion method to SMU/ SMK students; and to investigate the effectiveness of the method through experimental research design. The research results showed that the method had an effect on the process of moral instruction, especially in moral reasoning related to the moral judgement. It is suggested that moral education at SMU/SMK be conducted through moral dilemma discussion method.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the relationship between the variables of leadership traits, power utility, school climate, success criteria, and leader commitment and primal leadership of headmasters. Questionnaires were distributed to 36 headmasters of vocational high schools. The data were analyzed using correlation and regression techniques. The findings reveal that there were significant correlations between those five variables and the primal leadership behavior.

Abstract

This study aims at describing the effect of the implementation of the conceptual change instruction model as an instructional innovation and prior knowledge on remediation, understanding, and physics achievement in science. During the implementation, questionnaires and tests were administered to 336 high-school students at four schools in the cities of Singaraja and Malang. It was found that (1) prior knowledge had significant effect on the remediation and understanding, but not on learning achievement, (2) the innovative model had positive effects on remediation, understanding, and achievement, and (3) no interactive effect was found between prior knowledge and the innovative model and the remediation, understanding, and achievement in physics.

Abstract

This research aims at investigating whether or not the application of story maps model will increase the ability of SLTPN 1 Palembang in re-producing short stories. This research used a classroom action research model, involving 3 cycles. The pre-test conducted before the action showed that none of the 44 students got the score of 75 above. The post-test of cycle I showed that 15 students (34%) got the score of 75 (mean = 55.4). In the post-test of cycle II, 31 students (70%) got the score of 75 (mean 76.6). In the post-test of cycle III, there were 39 students (89%) who got the score of 75 (mean 77.8). The findings indicate that the students ability in reproducing short stories improved as the story maps model was ap-plied. In addition, the students seemed to be more enthusiastic in participating in the classroom activities.

Abstract

This study focused on describing the leadership effectiveness of female headmasters based on gender perspectives. Data were collected through interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Using a multisite constant-comparative method, this study involved headmasters, supervisors, teachers, administrative staff, parents and society. The qualitative analysis of the data resulted in the findings that female headmasters were effective in their leadership although they were a bit slow in responding to innovations.
