Abstract

ABSTRACT At this time in the learning that is applied in sekolahan most aspects of critical thinking skills of students less become the center of attention by the teacher as well as with aspects of cognitive style of students. This study aims to describe the critical thinking skills of cognitive-style students on biology learning through learning model of Circuit Learning with Visual media. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII-B MTS SYIAR ISLAM Maibit Rengel consisting of 15 students of cognitive impulsive style, 11 students of accurate cognitive style, 4 students of reflective style, 2 cognitive-style students slowly inaccurate. This study is a descriptive study with the subject of the respiratory system. Critical thinking skills data were obtained from the critical thinking test sheet from Enniss critical thinking skills indicator and cognitive style data obtained from cognitive style tests referring to the Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFFT) cognitive style instrument developed by Warli (2010). From the results of data analysis, students with cognitive style accurately have a higher critical thinking ability compared with other cognitive-style students. Thus it can beconcluded that there are differences about students critical thinking skills in accordance with the cognitive style possessed by students through the application ofCircuitLearning model on biology learning. Keywords: Critical Thinking, Cognitive Style, Learning Circuit Learning Model, and Visual Media.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBiochar is a biological charcoal derived from incomplete combustion (pyrolysis) of agricultural residual materials that can increase carbon sustainably, retention of water and nutrients in soil. This research aimed to demonstrate the effect of adding biochar on inceptisol for Kemloko tobacco cultivation in Temanggung, Central Java, Indonesia. The data analysis of this research was using Factorial Random Design with two factors (treatment and dose). The results showed that the addition of biochar + compost increase productivity of 491.6 kg/ha comparing to the control with the higher tobacco quality. Chemical analysis of the respected soil showed that the biochar + compost treatment increase pH level up to 5.46 with the organic matter level and total nitrogen as well increased about 2.66% and 0.180% respectively.Keywords:  biochar, tobacco of kemloko variety, temanggung, soil chemical

Abstract

ABSTRACT So far, the teachers learning is mostly presented with lecture method and only centered on the teacher, it causes the critical thinking of the students is still very rare in the learning process, besides critical thinking other thing to note is students cognitive style.Therefore it is necessary to do research about the empowerment of critical thinking in terms of reflective and impulsive cognitive style. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of critical thinking students reflective and impulsive cognitive style through SQ3R learning model (survey, question, read, review, recite) by using Audio Visual media. The subjects of the study were students of class VII-B MTs. Muhammadiyah 3 Sedayulawas amounted to 20 students consisting of 10 students of reflective cognitive style and 10 students of cognitive impulsive style. Abstract

ABSTRACTIn nursery technology, the storage of scions always requires approriate optimization of shelf life and good packing This study aims to determine the effect of shelf life and storage materials on viability of soursop (Annona muricata) var. Ratu grafting by applying randomized factorial design with 2 factors: storage time and type of packing materials, with 3 times repeatation. The duration of storage time factor consist of 5 levels: 0 day, 3 days, 5 days, 1 week and 2 weeks meanwhile packing materials factor consist of 2 levels: parafilm and polyethylene. The highest survival rate was obtained at 0 day shelf life time and parafilm as storage material, whereas the lowest one was shown at 2 weeks storage with polyethylene as storage material.Keywords: Scion, Grafting, Storage, Packing Material, Soursop

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research aims to improve the ability of student’s find and connect concepts through implementation of instruction in discussion phase guided inquiry learning. The research is a classroom action research with 2 cycles. The research procedure includes stages planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Subjects of this research are Senior High School students consist of 10 male and 22 female. Data collected with observation, interview, documentation, and test for measure score of concept map’s students. The data validation used triangulation method. The analyzed data technique were using qualitative-descrptive with stages data reduction, data display, and drawing inference. The result of the research showed score of concept map in the pre-cycle have range 3,1%-10,8% and average score 6,7% with 50%  students above the average. Score of concept map in the cycle I have range 6,8%-34,8% and average score 14,6% with 35,4% students above the average. Score of concept map in the cycle II have range 7,9%-42,9% and average score 15,6% with 27,5%  students above the average, thus the ability of student’s find and connecting conceptwas improved by the range and average score of concept map from pre-cycle to cycle II. Abstract

ABSTRACT Teak clonal trial was established at Watusipat, Gunung Kidul to obtain best clonal for fast growth in order to increase productivity of privatelly owned forest of teak (Tectona grandis).  Tirdty one (31) clonal teak from Thailand and teak forest in Java Island and Muna, Sulawesi Tenggara were tested in this trial. Randomized Complete Block Design, consisting of 5 replications, and 5 tree (clone) per plot were designed in this plot. Data of the teak clonal trial were collected for growth (height and diameter at breast height) in 2 and 4 years old.  In view of the variation between clones and genetic variation of growth, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and genetic parameters were conducted.  The results showed that significant differences were found   between clones in the trial for height and diameter in 2 or 4 years old. The average of height were 5.10 m in 2 years old and 8.88 m in 4 years old, the average of diameter were 5.86 cm in 2 years old and 9.21 cm in 4 years old.  Clonal repeatabilties were low in the trial (H2C=0.07 for height and H2C=0.08 for  diameter in 2 years old; H2C=0.13 for height and H2C=0.12 for diameter in  4 years old). Base on these results, it can be conclued that the breeding program of teak can improve the mean annual increment (MAI) while using clonal selection. Therefore, the main goal for increasing productivity of teak privatelly owned forest, will be achieved. Keywords: Genetic, Clone, Teak,Variation, Growth

Abstract

ABSTRACT  Teaching done by teachers during this time to give more lectures and exercises to do the problems quickly without understanding the concept in depth. This causes poorly trained students to develop their reasoning power. In order for meaningful knowledge to occur, teachers must train students to think critically which is necessary at this point. In addition, another aspect that must be considered a teacher is the cognitive style of students, because each student has a different cognitive style. For that reason, it is necessary to do research on cognitive and impulsive cognitive-style student analysis on biology learning through problem based learning model with image media with the aim to describe students critical thinking ability with reflective and impulsive cognitive style. The subjects in this study as many as 25 students of class VII F SMP Negeri 1 Sluke consisting of 8 students who reflective cognitive style and 8 students of cognitive impulsive style. Technique of collecting data in the form of Matching Familiar Test Test developed by Warli to know the cognitive style of student, while critical thinking data of student use students critical thinking ability test which refer to Ennis indicator. Critical thinking data of reflective and impulsive cognitive students were then tested using nonparametric statistics with Mann Whitney test. The results showed that there is a difference between students who reflective and impulsive cognitive style in which the students reflective cognitive style is higher than the students cognitive impulse score. Thus it can be concluded that students critical thinking skills are reflective cognitive style better than the critical thinking skills of cognitive impulsive students on biology learning using Problem Based Learning model with image media.Keywords:  critical thinking, Reflective cognitive style, Impulsive cognitive style, Problem based learning, media images.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research aims to improve students written scientific argumentation through the application of  problem based learning into enviromental pollution main subject at class X Science. The research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was carried out in two cycles in which each cycle consists of  four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of the research was 38 students of X Science.The source of the data came from teacher and students. Technique of collecting data used tests, interviews, and documentation. The main data about students written scientific argumentation covers three aspects, they are: claim, evidence, and reasoning. The technique used to validate this data was triangulation method. The data was analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. The research procedure used eas the spiral method. The reasearch target was improvement of written scientific argumentation increase ≥30% from base line.The result showed the application of problem based learning can improve written scientific argumentation students at class X Science. Percentage performance students written scientific argumentation in pre-action is 36,55% with a low category, consists of claim at  50,88% with a medium category, evidence at  35,09% with a low category; and reasoning at 23,68% with a low category. Percentage performance students written scientific argumentation in the first cycle increased to 57,89% with a medium category, consists of claim at  64,91% with a high category, evidence at  56,14% with a medium category; and reasoning at 52,63% with a medium category. Percentage performance students written scientific argumentation in the second cycle increased to 86,55% with a very high category, consists of claim at  97,37% with a very high category, evidence at  85,97%  with a very high category; and reasoning at 76,31% with a high category. Data increase written scientific argumentation from pre-action to second cycle has been increased according to the target is ≥30%. Key Words:written scientific argumentation, problem based learning, enviromental pollution.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Parasitology is the study of living organisms as parasites in humans and their relationship as causes of disease, disorders and death. In the course of parasitology, students are faced with the problem of some diseases by parasites that are widely circulated in society, so students are required to have a broader knowledge of a disease caused by parasitic organisms. Thus, the ability of literacy attitude is needed. Literacy of science is an important ability to support the ability to explain and apply science in life. However, in fact the ability of science literacy has not been trained properly. For that done a research in improving the attitude of science literacy in students. This study aims to analyze the improvement of science literacy attitude aspect in biology education students through the application of problem based learning model (PBL) in the course of parasitology. This study is a quasi experiment with non-equivalent pretest research design and posttest control group desaign. The sample of this study consists of 36 students who take the course of parasitology. Technique of data collecting is done by using scale scale of science literacy attitude which arranged by likert scale. Data analysis used SPSS 22 program. The result showed that the N-gain class of experiment and control class were in medium category (0,56 and 0,44). It can be concluded that the learning model of Problem Based Learning can improve the science literacy aspect in biology education students who take the course of parasitology. Keywords: Parasitology, Literacy and Learning Model of PBL

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe research aims to utilizing interaction earthworm with environment in the calcareous land. The research can be specified through a two-stage: the first year and second year. Results from our earlier studies aims: (1) to find out earthworm interaction with calcareous land, (2) identification of earthworm in calcareous land. Using three examples from different land: monoculture, polyculture, and agroforestry. The research data collected with 3 repetitions in every land. Measurement of micro climates include temperature, humidity, pH, and light intensity. Identification the type of earthworm consist of: the body shape, color, position and the form of klitelum, the prostomium, setae, and the position of genetal males and females. Identification using binocular microscopy at 10 to 40x magnification. Analysis correlation  were tested to figure out the relationships between variables. If the correlation of relationship between variable is very real or real continued test by STEPWISE REGRESSION to find out the most influential environmental factors on earthworms living. The result of the research are: (1) Earthworm had very significant most correlation (significant = 0,01) with air humidity (r= 0,855), light intensity (r = - 0,825), and soil humidity (r = 0,60). Other environmental factors had a significantly small influence  (pH, r =0,17; soil temperature, r = - 0,28; and temperature r = 0,03). Air humidity is the most influential environmental factors on earthworms living (2) identification of the types earthworm in different three land was found 2 species: Pontoscolex corethrurus and Metaphire javanica. In monoculture land is dominated by Metaphire javanica, whereas in Polikultur and Agroforestry land is dominated by Pontoscolex corethrurus. As a result, air humidity is the most influential environmental factors on the lives of earthworms and other environmental factors is relative small influence. On the calcareous land found two species of earthworm: Pontoscolex corethrurus and Metaphire javanica.     Keyword:Calcareous land environment, Identification earthworm, Pontoscolex corethrurus, Metaphire javanica
