Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to determine the effect of triacontanol on cucumber production and viability. A comletely randomized design was used, consisting two factors i.e. concentration and time of application. Concentration consists of 5 levels: 0, 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, and 10.0 mg/l while time of application consists of 3 leveles: 2 weeks after planting (W AP), 4 W AP, and 2 & 4 W AP. Concentration, time of application and interaction of the two factors were not significant on vegetative and reproductive variables but were significant on seed weight index, and seed variability. Concentration of O.O1 mg/l and application of 4 WAP gave the best effect on seed viability. (p.11)   Key words: Triacontanol, Seed, Cucumber

Abstract

The objective of the experiment was to determine the effect of coating materials and storage temperatures in inhibiting the ripening process of banana fruits. The experiment consisted of two factors namely storage temperatures (ambient and cool) and coating materials (control, Carnauba wax, bee wax, and Sempefresh). One experimental unit consisted of two fingers of banana. The experiment was replicated three times. Observation was conducted on the following variables: peel color development, weight loss, fruit softening, ratio of flesh and peel weight, sugar content, and titratable acidity. Result of the experiment showed that carnauba wax 6 % inhibited weight loss, fruit softening, and the increase of flesh and peel weight ratio. Bee wax inhibited fruit softening, peel color development and sugar content. Fruit treated with carnauba wax 6 % could be stored at cool temperature for 25.9 days, 10.5 days longer than untreated fruit stored at ambient temperature. Among the three coating materials, Sempefresh had the lowest effectiveness in inhibiting bananaf ruit ripening process.   Key words: Coating, Ripening, Banana, Shelf life

Abstract

A study to obtain a method of rapid clonal propagation of bananas was done. The investigated cultivars were Pisang Mas (AA), Pisang Ambon Kuning (AAA), Pisang Barangan (AAA), and Pisang Rajabulu (AAB). The basal medium was MS, the treatment were IAA (0 - 4.5 mg/l) and BAP (0 - 10.5m g/l), and the explants were suckers from the field. The experiment was designed with Randomized complete design, and repeated in 10 bottles for each treatment. The result of experiment showed that IAA alone significantly induced shoot multiplication. The role of IAA could be replaced by BAP. Cultivars, IAA and BAP interacted each other to induce shoot multiplication. The best treatment to induce shoot multiplication was the combination of IAA and BAP, and the concentration depend on the cultivar. After 8 weeks, the highest number of axilar shoots (12.6 shoots/bottles)w as obtained by Pisang Ambon (AAA), followed by Pisang Mas (AA) 8.2 shoot/bottle, Pisang Barangan (AAA) 7.8 shoot/bottle, and Pisang Rajabulu (AAB) 7.6 shoot/bottle.   Key words: Banana, Micropropagation

Abstract

The advance yield trial was conducted at potential tidal swampland at Inlittra Handil Manarap. South Kalimantan in dry season of 2000. Nine advanced lines, designationly  IR53709-36-10-2; B729Id-Sm-Tb-5; BW 307-6; B10278b-Mr-3-3-1; B10179b-Mr-1-4-2; BI0278b-Mr-1-4-2; B10277b-Mr-1-4-3; TOX3118-6-E2-3-2; BIOI79b-Mr-1- 4-1 and Kapuas variety used as a check variety. The trial was arranged in randomized completely block design with three replications. The trial showed that there were five advanced lines which their yield were higher than Kapuas, i.e. B7291d-Sm-Tb-5; BW307-6; BI0278b-Mr-3-3-1; BIOI79b-Mr-I-4-2; BIOI 79b-Mr-I-4-1. The yield of the five lines were 2.47; 2.42; 2.45; 2.50; and 2.29 t/ha, respectively while yield of Kapuas variety was only 2.20 t/ha. Percentage of yield increasing of these lines, if compared by Kapuas, were 1.27; 10; 11.36; 13.64; 4.09 % respectively.   Key  words: Rice, Tidal swamp, field

Abstract

The problems of monotoon swamps are acid soil and macro nutrient deficient, especially P and K. To solve the problems, it can be used the tolerant and adapted varieties at monotoon swamp. Fourteen genotypes from CIMMYT (Mexico), two national varieties and two local varieties as check varieties were tested in randomized block design with three replication in dry season of 2000 at Sungai Kupang village, Hu/u Sungai Selatan district. The result of experiment indicated that two genotypes have highest yield; i.e. Cotaxtla S 9649 and Synthetic NVE - SR (TIWD). And then. there were four genotypes have lower yield than Cotaxtla S 9649 and Synthetic NVE - SR (TIWD). Yield of the other genotypes were not significantly different with local variety. The day to mature of the whole genotypes were 90 days.   Key words: Performance, Genotypes/varieties, Corn. Monotoons swamp.
