Abstract

LEISA refers to forms of agriculture that seek to optimize the use of locally available resources by combining the different components of the farm system (i.e. plants, animals, soil, water, climate and people) so that they complement each other and have the greatest possible synergetic effects: In the system of LEISA proposed here, ecological risks generated by the external inputs are avoided; and reversally, the farm system performance is enriched by the use of internal inputs (including by products)p reduced in the agro-ecosystem. The external inputs in the form of agro-chemicals (inorganic fertilizers and pesticides) are used in a limited to replace nutrients transported out of the agro-ecosystem through harvest. Selecting a hypothetical model of LEISA by integrating crop production (1.25 ha),fish nursery (0.50 ha), and duck husbandry (1000 ducks at the dike of pond) shows that the system being feasible. The hypothetical model needs investation cost as much as Rp 64 195 000 and operational cost of Rp 41289825, giving a total cost of Rp 105484825 (as lending cost). Based on the estimation of monthly cash flow with annual DF 18% and grace period of 11 months, the hypothetical model gives NPV at the 36th month = Rp 38 556 960, Net B/C = 1.43, IRR = 39.42. and payback periods = 25 months. Abstract

Testing of soybean genotypes were conducted at six locations of tidal swampland; in dry season of 1999/2000. Eight genotypes and two checks varieties i.e. Wilis and Slamet were evaluated for their yield potential. The experiment was using Randomized Completely Block Design with four replications. The result showed that yield of two genotypes, MSC 9/12-D-4 and MSC 9243-D-3, were higher and relatively stable compared to Wilis and Slamet.   Key words Soybean, Tidal swampland

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the effect of coating materials and storage temperatures in inhibiting the ripening process of papaya fruits. A two-factor factorial experiment was conducted. Replicates were three times and functioned as block. It consisted of coating material factor i.e. control, Semperfresh0 ,8% carnauba wax 6% and bee wax 6% and storage temperature factor, control room (27-31°C) and cool (18-20"C) temperatures. Observations consisted of weight loss, peel color development, appearance, total soluble solids, titratable acidity and vitamin C content. Result of the experiment showed that bee wax and carnauba wax inhibited weight loss, fruit softening, the increase of vitamin C, and the decline of appearance. Storage of fruits treated with carnauba wax at cool temperature had a shelf life of 19 days while control fruits stored at room temperature had a shelf life of 5.3 days. Abstract

The objectives of this study is to investigate the effect of (Urea) and Polymer Coated Urea (Slow Release N - Fertilizer) on the growth and quality of turf Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon var. Tifdwarf.) and to find the optimum rate. Treatments are urea and PCU rate at 4.5 g, 9.0g and 13.5 g N/m2/application, respectively. The experiment was arranged in Randomized Block design with 3 replications. Fertilizers were applied 6 times in every 2 locals. The result showed that in the end of the experiment, the higher values of grass height. number of shoots resiliance. Fresh and dry weight were obtained with PCU /3.5 g N/m2/application. The highest dosage of PCU resulted d the highest quality of turf grass.   Key words: Urea, Polymer Coated urea, Bermuda grass

Abstract

The study was conducted to find out some factors affecting low disease intensity and slow diseased development on several traditional rice through i.e. a) regeneration ability afterwards pathogen invation, b) to drive on sclerotium formation on traditional rice straw (i.e. Bayar pahit. Bayar palas. Karang dukuh, Lemo. Pandak) and improve variety (IR 36) in the moisture chamber, and also in water agar + rice sheath extract, c) the difference of internode and sheath long. The result revealed that some traditional rice (Bayar pahit, Bayar palas, Karang dukuh, Lemo and Pandak) possesa good regeneration ability afterward rice hills damaged by a pathogen invation. Pathogen also faided to produce sclerotium on Bayar pahit, Bayar palas, Karang dukuh and Lemo, and it was more due to the lack of available nutrition for pathogen fisiological prosses in the several traditional varieties. It was also possibly has inhibitor chemical compounds that inhibit sclerotium formation. There was known that stem internode was longer than sheath. So the pathogen could not reach to uppers heath. Diseased development was really slow on the traditional varieties that had three characteristics mentioned above.   Key word: Rice, Sheath blight, Tidal swamp
