Abstract

This research aimed to know by using Card Sort can improve students? vocabulary at students of MTsN Parepare. Generally the use of media as teaching aid mainly aimed at increasing the teaching process to be more motivating and interesting. This research was conducted in MTsN Parepare. Researcher used quantitative study in the form of Pre ? Experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. There are independent variable and dependent variable. Random sampling is the technique to take the sample and VIII.5 is the samples which consist with 26 students. The instrument that used is test, observation and documentation. The result calculation of mean score pre-test of students was 52,31 and mean score post-test of students was 65,57. The result of this research showed there was significant different in statistical analysis where the statistical t-test (2,7) was higher than t-table (1,708) with degree freedom (df = N-1) 25. The researcher concluded the using of Card Sort is able to improve students? vocabulary. From 15 questionnaires, the students answered very positive. Based on the liker scale that the students were very positive in learning English by using Card Sort. It means that the Card Sort media makes students have positive response toward in learning vocabulary. The cumulative percentage on the fifteen items of the positive statements questionnaire was 96,62, while the cumulative score that they got the questionnaire was 1633. The researcher concluded the using of Card Sort is able to improve students? vocabulary at MTsN Parepare.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was positively to find out whether applying two stay two stray technique by using picture series to improve students? speaking skill at the second grade in MAN 2 Parepare. The results of this research, the benefit for the teacher and students. The teacher will be conscious that it is important to apply the technique in teaching. The students can enjoy the lesson so they can be easier to express their ideas and also confidence to speak by using the gesture. The subject of this research is XI MIA 1 class which is consisted of 27 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling. The design in this research was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The student did the pre-test, got the treatment and did the post-test. It aimed to know whether applying two stay two stray technique by using picture series can improve students? speaking skill. The result in this research was indicated that the improvement of the students? speaking skill. It was indicated by the students? mean score of post-test (72.26) was greater than pre-test (44.46). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and df = 26, and the value of table is 1.706, while the value of t-test is 18.34. It means that the t-test value is greater than t-table (2.29 ? 1.706). Thus, it can be concluded that the students? speaking skill is significantly better after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Keywords: Speaking Skill, Two Stay Two Stray and Picture Series.

Abstract

Abstract This research studied about the kinds of propaganda expressions and what messages are conveyed through the propaganda expressions in Angel and Demon novel by Dan Brown. The research used the propaganda theory by Harold Laswell, that divided in four kinds; agitation, integration, horizontally and vertically propaganda. In the methodology of research, the writer used descriptive qualitative method and intrinsic and extrinsic approach. In this research, the writer found there are some expressions that contain agitation propaganda, integration propaganda, horizontally propaganda and vertically propaganda that could be giving influence to the reader. In general, an expression of propaganda in ?Angel and Demon? novel by Dan Brown wants to change the mindset of people towards their views to the brotherhood of the ?Illuminat?i. The novel attempts to explain the history of the birth of a conflict between the Christian and the ?Illuminati? and how much influence they had been, the author packed them into a dialogue delivered by characters that are in the novel in which there are propaganda expressions. The implication of this research as an information to the public that a novel is not only use full as a reading at leisure or entertainment, but the novel can also be functioning as media of propaganda. Abstract

This research was designed to improve the students` reading comprehension through Think Talk Write at the first grade students of SMKN 1 Lasusua. The research problem was ?How can think talk write improve students? reading comprehension at class X TKJ of SMKN 1 Lasusua??.The designed of this research was collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR).In this research, there were two cycles and the first cycle was not success because the result of the students? test did not fulfill the KKM, so there was the next cycle. The second cycle was success because the result of the  student test achieved the KKM mandatory by the school. In addition, this research must get 70 score to fulfill the Minimum Mastery Criterion ? Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM). It could be seen in the average score was 68.6 in the first cycle and there were only 17 students from 35 students got score greater than or equal 70. This score increased to be 74.77 in the second cycle there were 26 from 35 students got score greater than or equal 70. It means that this research was successful.        Reflecting to the findings and discussion of this research, the conclusion was think talk write strategy could improve the students` comprehension in reading at the first grade students of SMKN 1 Lasusua and the researcher suggests some points. Firstly, think talk write is a strategy that can be employed in improving students` comprehension in reading. Secondly, She suggests that English teacher can apply think talk write as a technique that can be used in teaching English to all skills, especially reading.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyse and describe the process of improving students? listening skill for eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Majene, West Sulawesi Province through watching English movies. The subject of this research is XI Agama 2 Class that consisted of 16 students. The method used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which the writer works collaboratively with the English teacher. The results in this study indicate that there was improvement of the students? skill listening. Most of the students gradually gained good scores at the end of the cycle The data was collected from a questionnaire, observation note of performance, pre-test and posttest. The study was conducted with cycle model through the steps of planning, conducting, observation, and reflection. The results of this study show a significant relationship between students' learning by English movie with delay subtitle related to their listening skills as shown in their improvement of post test and positive responses of students than english movie with not delay. The questionnaire shows that more than 75% students felt easy to understand listening materials from native speakers. Consequently, it was suggested that teaching learning process using English movie with English subtitle is recommended into learning process to improve students' listening skills in English language classroom. In conclusion, watching English movie can improve students listening skill.
