Abstract

The technological changes and market economic orientation are factors affecting the change of activities of both male and female workers as well as distribution of work in the household. On the fisher societies, the technological changes have made female workers to involve from productive to pasca productive activities. That also change distribution of work on male and female workers. Firstly, both of husband and wife do together in productive and pasca productive activities, such as fishing and fish processing, and both of them also conduct a domestic activities. Due to technological changes, fishing activitities is only conducted by male (husband), while female (wife) do fish processing, marketing and also domestic activities. In other words, technology changes tend to set free a male from domestic activities (household duties).

Abstract

Over exploitation in northern coast of Java is a crucial problem. Serious efforts are badly needed to reduce this problem. This paper will propose one of the solutions to overcome this problem that is developing a collective capital sharing scheme. The proposal is constructed by two assumptions. The first assumption is that one of the core problems of over fishing is the (over-) density of fishing boats in northern coast of Java. The second and that the boat overdensity is caused by private boat ownership which stimulates fishermen to operate as many boats as possible to take the commons marine resources at maximum level. I will argue that communal capital sharing will reduce this tendency and, to the contrary to the private property practice, it will stimulate the spirit of communalism favouring a more fair and sustainable fishing practices.

Abstract

As nation which multiethnic, Indonesia has potency of conflict. From perspective of intercultural communications, inter-ethnic conflict can initiate from cultural identity differences which communicated ethnocentrism. Analyse for ethnical conflict of Dayak and Madura in West Kalimantan show that stereotype - representing the part of self perception through ascription process - as most potential property of cultural identity that generate internal issue in intercultural communications. This Stereotype was afirmed through conflict historically and culturally developed; built by both bloodthirsty tradition "carok" of Madura and "red mug" of Dayak. In order to intercultural communications yield effective intercultural interaction, hence stereotype have to be avoided exposed oneselfly to things actual which is being faced, conflict history should be closed, and the both parties have to assume that communications can assist to finish their problem. Empathy must be opened by both parties to measure communications situation freshment. Equality should be found and developed, as far as that facilitate the solving of problem. If even also still there are difference, hence the oppressive must remain to be avoided.

Abstract

Critical realism is a current in philosophy of social science, which emerged in the 1970s in the United Kingdom as a reaction toward two other currents in philosophy of science that in the past dominated the natural sciences: positivism and idealism. In the 1980s the scope of critical realism was extended to include the social sciences. Critical realism claims to present a new view and better understanding of the practice of social research compared to those currently in sway. The philosophy of science presented by critical realism is quite complicated, but important enough to be given serious attention. The purpose of this article is to discuss a number of topics which crucial for the proper understanding of the current of philosophy of science as well as its implications for the practice of research in the social science.
