Abstract

This article reviews a harmonious pluralistic society in Pangkalpinang, Bangka, represented by a school named Tunas Harapan Bangsa. It was already wellknown that Pangkalpinangis a city that developed by a variety of groups, in term of ethnicity, religion and culture. The plurality is a social reality that shaped Pangkalpinangpeople to develop awareness among themselves about the importance of unity and harmonious living in their ecological settlement. They fully settled in a region with a “unity in diversity” which they express in a term known as “Serumpun Sebalai”, which mean “one place for various groups”. The term describes a complete unity among different ethnic, religious and cultural groups. Such condition is a dreamed reality of many Indonesians, something that is not easily realized elsewhere in Indonesia. Keywords: serumpun sebalai, SMK Tunas Harapan Bangsa, pluralistic society

Abstract

The development of television political ads in Indonesia has been increased significantly since the first use in the election of 1999. Through television political ads, political parties have greater freedom to express their interest rather than media news coverage. Moreover, television could cover wider area than other mass media. Because of those reasons, political parties spend a lot of their budgets for television political ads. The number and modes of television political ads have increased significantly than before. This paper tries to describe how political parties represent themselves in television ads. It will be analyzed from verbal and non-verbal content of television political ads. This article argues that television ads have been used to persuade rather than to provide political education to the audience. Keywords:political ads, television, political party (parpol), legislative election 2009 (Pileg 2009)

Abstract

Bantimurung-Bulusaraung (Babul) National Park was established in 2004. As a new national park, collaborative activities with surrounding community are still limited. Fixing the border line between the national park and the surrounding areas is still in the main preoccupation of the national park. The problem in Babul National Park is related to still unsolved land ownership. Local people in Dusun Tallasa claimed that the land had beenoccupied since a long time. Their ancestors had lived in the area before government proclaimed the forest as a conservation area. Besides, they also have evidence such as girik (traditional land ownership documents). Colaborative activities are limited and have not been based on memorandum of understanding. The only institution which collaborates with Babul National Park Office (Balai Taman Nasional Babul)is Tourism and Culture Agency (Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan)and Babul National Park Office (Balai Taman Nasional Babul). This paper aims to describe the real situation regarding the relation between Babul National Park Office and the local communities their economic activities, and the benefits that could be obtained by both the communities and ecosystem in regard to natural conservation goals.
