Abstract

This research proves the importance of the role of women in the agricultural sector in Central Java through a case study of Peasants Association movement in Qaryah Thayyibah, Salatiga, Central Java. This research uses qualitative methods, with data collection techniques through literature studies, observations, FGDs and in-depth interviews. The analysis technique uses categorization, interpretation and conclusions from the results of data collection. This research shows women have a key role in the development of the agricultural sector. Therefore, SPPQT's programs for empowering women farmers include: (1) women's political education, (2) involvement of women in the Production Community and Farmers Community, (3) Women's involvement in the Village Development Council (Team 11). The findings also showed that there were obstacles in the form of community rejection for the third point. This can be overcome by refer again to SPPQT's vision, gender equality needs to be seen as a solution to improve the agricultural sector.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper aims to explain female subjectivity reflected in Tempurung novel by Oka Rusmini by describing main character perception toward body and autonomy in the formation of female subjectivity. In discussion I use feminist literary criticism approach. This study reveals that woman characters in Tempurung perceiving her body as a significant part of her subjectivity. Furthermore, female subjectivity isn’t her own project but a form of dialogue with other elements including her relationship with husband, children, body and social culture construction which surrounding her. The conclusion of this study is Oka Rusmini makes resistance to the notion of subjectivity on conventional/ traditional thought by representing narrative of female subjectivity which doesn’t neglect body, doesn’t individual, doesn’t always rational, doesn’t subject to “universal” notion of subject and doesn’t finish.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper defines women’s status and agency in Information Technology (IT) in education and career as a programmer. In fact, technology is never a neutral ground. Technologies have a masculine image not only because they are dominated by men but because they incorporate symbols, metaphors and values that have masculine connotations. How do women define, control and transform herself in this area? The transformation of relationship between women and machine is important to be investigated. The new definition about masculinity domination and the new style is the technofeminism movement. Technofeminist approachesemphasize that the gender–technology relationship is fluid and flexible. Therefore we can re-define “technophobia” to “technophilia”, as a celebration of woman’s agency to new digital age.

Abstract

This paper discusses gender bias within the Indonesian historiography tradition. Various historical literature records that all major events in Indonesian history–as a nation–are masculine and strongly dominated by male narratives. There is no space for women to be present in the narratives of the past. As if the history of Indonesia is a history of men, whereas if critical research is done then women such as men have a past narrative that is also important. Women are present and give meaning to the development of the nation's history. This matter is absent in Indonesian historiography. The strength of gender bias in the historiography of Indonesia can not be separated from the strong patriarchal culture in the life of society. Thus the gender bias ultimately forms a canon, so this is then reproduced from generation to generation. This article argues that critical research by revealing a new fact is a power to change gender bias in Indonesian historiography.
