Two decades or more, in the global scheme, Islamic studies have been enforced to take broader paradigms from dogmatic-theology to popular-religious. Islamic studies is not merely discussing on sacred corpus only, but everyday life of Islam also. In academic space, this field has increasingly been an intersection -if not a contestation- across disciplines, such as political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics, media, and cultural studies.

Abstract

Integrated learning is a teaching and learning approach that takes into account and adjusts to the developmental level of the students (Developmentally Appropriate Practical). The approach that departs from the theory of learning that rejects the drill-system as the basis for the formation of knowledge and intellectual structure of the child. The principles in integrated learning include: 1) the principle of excavation of the theme, 2) the principle of implementation of integrated learning, 3) the principles of evaluation and 4) the principle of reaction. Integrated learning has characteristics: (a) Child-centered (b) Providing direct experience to the child (c) Segregation between fields of study is not clear (d) Presenting concepts from different fields of study in a learning process e) f) Learning outcomes can develop in accordance with the interests and needs of children. Abstract

This article portrays the marriage of underage children in terms of Islamic law, state act, and sociology of law. This study argues that such marriage is an unfinished social issue although state or Islamic law ruled the minimum limit for possibility of marriage. However, many rural people have culturally been constructed within different situation from the urbans, so it created more chances for them to get marriage under the possible age. The underage marriage still happens since the society had sociologically believed that a child who had marriageable age (balîgh) must be married, since it causes the more possible disadventages (madhârat), such as doing the religiously forbidden things.

Abstract

Indonesia as one of the most populated-by-Muslim country has a long historical experience in implementing Islamic law. In each era, the practice of Islamic law differs one another due to the legal politics which influence it. Prior to the Dutch colonialism, Islamic law was prevalent among Muslims with political support from the royal kingdom of Islam such as in Aceh, Palembang, Banjarmasin, Banten, Demak, Jepara, Tuban, Gersik, Ampel and Mataram. Islamic law grew and developed in the midst of society beside adat law. In the Dutch colonial era the policy of the colonial government against Islamic law had its ups and downs in line with the legal theory that emerged at the time. On the one hand, it tends to be accommodative, while confrontational on the other hand. In the era of independence the position of Islamic law became stronger with the enactment of the 1945 Constitution which guaranteed the right of every citizen to embrace religion and practise religious law. In the New Order era, several laws have been enacted, which strengthened the position of Islamic law, especially the Islamic civil law. This tends to develop in the Reform era, marked by strengthening Muslim aspirations and regional autonomy. Consequently, the Islamic law is increasingly practised, though still limited in the field of civil law and Islamic economics. The enforcement of Islamic criminal law in Indonesia still encounter many obstacles both conceptually and legally. This article will examine the existence and the prospect of Islamic law in Indonesia by observing its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges.

Abstract

Gerakan sekularisme seringkali dianggap sebagai bentuk kemodernan bagi suatu komunitas tertentu, yang ditandai dengan rasionalitas sebagai identitasnya. Pun demikian, tidak dapat dipungkiri keberadaan gerakan sekularisme telah mempengaruhi konsep dan perilaku keagamaan masyarakat. Karena modernisme yang menjadi bungkus sekularisme telah menjelma menjadi sytle, metode, maupun ekspresi-ekspresi lainnya bagi masyarakat. Sekularisme yang lahir di Barat seakan memberi informasi kepada bangsa Timur yang notabene dianggap sebagai masyarakat tertinggal dan berlumur kemiskinan, bahwa jika ingin maju dan terdidik, maka kunci utamanya adalah menjadi masyarakat modern.

Abstract

Maqasid Syariah merupakan pintu gerbang awal yang harus dilalui agar Islam sebagai agama mampu mengimplementasikan ekspektasinya yaitu agama yang ajarannya selalu relevan untuk zamannya, mampu mengkontekstualisasikan dirinya dalam ruang lingkup yang mengitarinya dan mampu memberikan solusi bagi setiap permasalahan yang timbul dan terjadi di setiap waktu dan kondisi dimana agama itu dianut oleh pemeluknya.

Abstract

Selama ini manajemen kurikulum pendidikan pesantren hanya dikenal sebagai lembaga pendidikan yang hanya mengandalkan manajemen kurikulum tradisional dan sangat menghindari terhadap kurikulum pendidikan modern. Namun faktanya, banyak lulusan pesantren yang mampu bersaing dengan lulusan pendidikan modern dalam segala bidang. Salah satu keberhasilan pesantren tidak terlepas dari peran kiai sebagai hidden curriculum (kurikulum tersembunyi) yang mengedepankan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter sekaligus menjadi reference personbagi para santri. Belakangan pesantren mulai menerapkan kurikulum baru tanpa meninggalkan kurikulum sebelumnya yang dikelola (manaj) secara berkesinambungan. Keterpaduan antara kurikulum lama dan baru memperkuat pendidikan pesantren sebagai lembaga pendidikan yang unik dan mempunyai kekhasan tersendiri. Secara rinci tujuan pendidikan pesantren meliputi meninggikan budi pekerti, melatih dan mempertinggi semangat, menghargai nilai-nilai spiritual dan kemanusiaan, mengajarkan tingkah-laku yang jujur dan bermoral, dan mempersiapkan para santri untuk hidup sederhana dan bersih hati

Abstract

This article attempts to verify that every interpreters have different kinds of interpretation based on their own ideologies. The different exegesis on Surah al-Ahzâb (33): 33 makes it justified. The school of Sunni maintains that Ahlul Bayt is not merely limited to Ahlul Kisa’ as coined among proponents of the school of Shi’i. furthermore, related to the in-deepth investigation of using al-asbâb al-nuzûl of the Surah, it seems to be concluded that Ahlul Bayt in that verse is Ali’s members of family, including Ali, Fatimah, Husain, Hasan, and Prophet Mohammad. At least this is the core of result of the investigation to which this article tries to achieve.

Abstract

The waste recycling is a process in which the new products are made from used products to provide more benefits for human being and to maintain the sustainable ecosystem. It is based on theological assumption that a waste, whatever bad of it, is a part of nature as inseperable way of God’s creation. This article argues that recycling process is human’s responsibility to serve the earth with reorganizing and reusing every possible useable things into commodities or others. As a part of prodoct which is possible to be purified (mutanajjis in Islamic term), a waste could be utilized to the useful products for human. Islam, for this term, also ruled the essence of human brain to make use God’s creation.

Abstract

The mazhabiyah (school of thought differentiation) issue is conceived as the ultimate problem of Muslims, since a life without mazhab, without ideological point, will be chosen as a the central determinant of social unity. For Abdul Wahid Hasyim, the madzhabiyah is important due to its function as a way of mutual understanding and peace building. He made it as a religious stance in the battle for maintaining the nation unity in diversity. This study attempts to portray religious and political contribution of Abdul Wahid Hasyim in upholding the Indonesian Islam and contructing NKRI. His contribution during Dutch colonialism, Japanese occupation, until independence periods had figured out his spirit as santri in the nation building.

Abstract

This study considers a question of whether blessings are commodified in the ritual practices of religious therapy associated with the certain religious figures. Buying the Air Berkah (Holy Water) from Habib Hasan Al Muhdor, a religios leader of Majelis Shalawat Ahbabul Musthofa, is a continuous tradition practiced by local Muslims at Widoro  Krejengan Probolinggo. By observing this religious (or economic?) therapy, this study attempts to argue that they have been transmitting the material thing, money, into the blessing of the attendant spirit mediums. As they received blessing and magical item from the medium air berkah, they reached for wallets to make donation. This study goes to analyze the ways their stock of knowledge are constructed through ritualized practices of buying air berkah and the ways it reproduced the social structure of Krejengan community associated with their religious belief in the commodified item of blessing. It leads this study to conclusion that religion of the masses requires holy men to satisfy the needs of ordinary men and women, and hence the sacred and charisma are corrupted by the demand for miracles and spectacles through certain mechanism, including religious therapy.
