Abstract

The purpose of this study was to reveal the literary in the novel I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Cristina Lamb, from the viewpoint of feminism which includes; The position of women, Pro-feminism and Cons of feminism in the novel I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Cristina Lamb. This study is a qualitative study using descriptive method, since the data in this study in the form of words, and sentences instead of the numbers as a result of statistical calculations. In addition, research reports will contain excerpts of data to provide an overview description of the report. Data were derived from the text of the novel, that is, the quote in the form of words, phrases, sentences, sentence quote form narrative or dialogue. From the data analysis, it can be concluded that awareness of equality which is owned by men and women, both within the family and community environment. In the novel I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb showed that aura feminist actualized in the form of a daughter who struggle to survive even though three bullets had claimed smile and fighting for and campaigning for the right to education for girls.Keywords: feminism, pro-feminism, cons-feminism

Abstract

Deconstruction is a method of reading the text very carefully to find inconsistencies and paradoxes in the concepts of the text as a whole by turning the existing oppositions. The elements are deconstructed is the element that determines the text. Deconstruction on the main prominent role in novel Rabet: Runtuhnya Jerman Timur by Martin Jankowski generate some binary opposition, i.e., capitalist-socialist, West German-East German, rich-poor, rebel-fighters, and cage-palace. Results deconstruction of the Socialist paradox shows that the main character misinterprets binary opposition between the capitalist and socialist because actually, socialists higher rank than capitalist. Results deconstruction of the paradox of East Germany, the main character misinterprets binary opposition between East Germany and West Germany because of East Germany get a higher place than West Germany. Results deconstruction of the paradox of poor, indicating that the main character misinterprets binary opposition between rich and poor because in fact, the people of East Germany was not poor. Results deconstruction of the paradox fighters showed that the main character as a representation of a warrior, it turns out, when viewed from the side of the East German government, as rebels because the East German government actually was a good purpose for its citizens, which is making its citizens prosper. Results deconstruction of the paradox enclosure indicates that the main character is not actually born in a stable because of the fact that the East German government to the welfare or well-being to its citizens.Keywords: deconstruction, the main character, binary opposition, paradoxically

Abstract

This study was proposed to identify and analyze the markers and the coherence of the paragraphs of the students’ theses of Indonesian Languange and Literary Education Program. It was a qualitative study using a discourse analysis method. The data were texts in paragraphs selected from 30 students’ theses especially the Introduction Chapter. The study found that there were 272 coherent paragraps and 34 incoherent paragraphs. findings were theses, results shown that there were five coherence markers found in the samples. Those were repetition, subtitution, pronoun, conjunction, and causal relation. There were also found that the coherent paragraphs consisted of explisit coherence (213 data) and implisit coherence (59 data). The explisit coherences were developed with those 5 coherence markers and the repetition was the most dominat markers in use. By comparing the number of the coherent paragraphs with the incoherent paragraphs, it can be drawn that the coherence of the students’ writing in introduction capter was categorized into very good level.Keywords: coherence, theses, coherence markers, explisit, and implisit

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of early childhood parents’ participation on education of early childhood program in Konawe regency. The forms of participation were analyzed with the approach of the participation concept, i.e. the participation of the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. This study used a qualitative research method, which aims to analyze the phenomena, events, social activities, thinking people individually or in groups on the participation of parent’s early childhood. Based on the research objectives, so obtained the results of research, that the percentage participation rate of early childhood parents at the planning stage, the implementation stage, and the stage of monitoring and evaluations showed that 63 respondents (13%) high participated, 163 respondents (35%) medium participated, and 244 respondents (52%) low participated. Those mean that overall early childhood parents had fairly low levels of education of early childhood program. These findings did not mean that they did not have role at all in development of education of early childhood program. Only, on average, their participation in the three forms of participation described above was still quite low.Keywords: participation, parents, early childhood, and education of early childhood program

Abstract

In a process of teaching learning activity, teachers strive to create activities in class to make the students understand with the material that teachers give, when a book as a main source of knowledge in learning process, reading is an important process in teaching learning activity, many teachers try to apply technique to make students comprehend of what they read, and to make students interested in reading activity. In this paper the author introduces the technique known as information transfer. By first collecting different definitions of the term and then by explaining its application to English language teaching that can be used in teaching reading activity. Therefore, the present study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the use of information transfer and students’ reading comprehension, i.e. to determine whether or not making use of information transfer has any influence on the students’ reading comprehension. The methodology was true-experimental design with the treatment. The population of this research was the second semester of the tenth grade students of MAN I Metro, Lampung. The sample taken was two classes randomly, 1K2 (X-2) and 1K3 (X-3) which consisted of 64 students. In collecting the data, the writer used the instruments in multiple-choice questions of descriptive text. Abstract

This study aims at identifying the types and functions of metaphores used in selected Wordsworth poems. It was a qualitative research and library method was used in collecting the data. The data of the study are the series of England poems of I, II, III, and IV. The data were analyzed descriptively based on the methatphore chategories. The findings suggested that there are three types of metaphore used in the four poems. They were: 1) antromorphic image, 2) animal image, 3) concrete image, and sinestesia image. In addition, the use of methahores functions 1) to balance inadequacy, 2) to express aesthetics, and 3) to avoid monotone.Keywords: Type and Function of Metaphore, Antromorphic, Image, Concrete, and Sinestesia Image.

Abstract

This study investigated the role of School Committee in improving the quality of education at junior high school level in Konawe Regency. It was proposed to uncover what the School Committee roles has done in improving senior high school quality in Konawe Regency. It was expected to improve the quality of education by endorsing the School Committee roles. This study used quantitative approach by survey method on the characteristics, actions, and opinions from a group of respondents as representative of the population. The information associated with the roles committee played in improving the quality of education in Konawe Regency. Data collection was conducted using list of questionnaire. There were 20 SMPs chosen as subject of study. The results showed that the roles the School Committee had played were at a good category. It had already played its role as Consideration Board in deciding school programs, determining to be involved in defining the teaching learning process in class, defining the curriculum, allocating the schools’ program budget as well involving in determining extension learning program. However, the role of committee as consideration board still needs to be maximized.Keywords: School Committee, quality of education, Consideration Board, and Junior High School

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of Jeopardy Strategy can improve the students` vocabulary at the first semester of PIKIH Program of UIN Alauddin Makassar 2014/2015. This research employed quasi experimental method with two groups pre-test and post-test design. There were two variables; they were independent variable (the use of Jeopardy Strategy in teaching vocabulary) and dependent variable (the students` vocabulary). The population of this research was the students of PIKIH Program of UIN Alauddin Makassar 2014/2015 which consisted of 1670 students of 67 groups. The sample of the research consisted of two groups by using purposive sampling technique. The researcher took the forty-two group as experimental class and the thirty-nine group as control class. The instrument of this research was a written vocabulary test used in pre-test and post-test. The result of the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students’ post-test in experimental class and controlled class. The mean score of post-test (74.29) in experimental class was greater than the mean score of post-test (59.96) in controlled class. From t-test, the researcher found that the value of t-test (4.44) was greater than t-table (2.00) at the level of significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) = 46. Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the researcher drew a conclusion that the use of Jeopardy Strategy can improve the students` vocabulary at the first semester of PIKIH Program of UIN Alauddin Makassar 2014/2015.Keywords: Jeopardy Strategy, Vocabulary Skill
