Abstract

This research aimed to discover the language learning strategies used by successfull students in developing speaking performance in speaking performance at English Language Education Program in Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong. This research used qualitative method in the form of descriptive qualitative. the participants of this research were taken from the third semester of English Language Education Program in Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong with the total 6 students. The participants were the students who gained score A in speaking class. Based on the data gathered, the result showed that the students applied both of Direct and Imdirect learning strategies in developing their speaking English Language Education Program in Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong, namely social strategies, metacognitive strategies, affective strategies in Indirect Strategy and memory strategies, cognitive strategies, and compensation strategies in Direct Strategy. From those of six strategies applied, most of the students tended to apply Indirect Strategy that was social strategies by asking help, working in pair, practicing with the proficient user of English and making small group discussion.

Abstract

This research presented analysing the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle at English Education Department of Sorong Muhammadiyah University and the factors affecting the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle. This research used descriptive method with the test and questionnaire instruments. The test consisted of 30 items and the questionnaire consisted of 23 items. The population of the research was the students of English Education Department of Sorong Muhammadiyah University in academic year 2011/2012 that consistent of 423 students. The sample of this research consisted of 43 students taken by applying purposive sampling technique.  The result of the data analysis indicated that the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle was poor. It was indicated by the rate of percentage of the students’ score obtained through in which out of 43 students, 3 students (7 %) got very poor score, 19 students (44.2%) got poor score, 20 students (46.5%) got fairly score, and 1 (2.3%) students got good score. While none of them got very good score. The mean score of the test was 5.41 that falls into poor classification. The finding showed that the factors affected the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle because the same form of gerund and present participle, the students did not know about the use of gerund and present participle and the students lack ability of memorizing.

Abstract

This research was a correlation study with two variables – variable X standing for motivation and variable Y standing for achievement. The purpose of this study was to find out is there any positive correlation between motivation and achievement in leraning English especially for the pupils of grade six at SDN inpres 3 Birobuli. The data were collected by using documentation and questionnaire. Then, they were analyzed descriptively. Through questionnaire and pupils’ learning result, it was found that the level of correlation between variable X and Y was strong enough, there was positive correlation between variable X and Y since the value of r-counted (0,475) was higher than the value of r-table (0,235). Meaning the higher motivation they get the better achievement they have.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to describe: the application of the ARCS model of learning mathematics using STAD and NHT in SMP Negeri 3 Malang Ampelgading, activities of teachers and learning activities of students during the learning process, as well as student learning outcomes and student motivation. The approach taken in this study is a qualitative and quantitative approach. The experiment was conducted in the first semester of 2013-2014 academic year on 28 October to 16 November 2013 in which the application of the ARCS model of learning using STAD and NHT to see the activities of the teacher and student learning activities as processes of learning, student learning outcomes are seen from individual tasks and daily test as well as the student's motivation to learn the subject while in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Malang Ampelgading as objects. Instrument used is the observation sheet to see the activities of teachers and students’ learning activities, individual assignments and daily test to look at student learning outcomes and questionnaire to see the students' motivation . The results showed that: 1) the application of the ARCS model of learning mathematics using STAD and NHT in SMP Negeri 3 Malang Ampelgading accomplished in accordance with the RPP planned despite having some problems at the beginning of the meeting, 2) the activities of teachers and students' learning activities always have improvement in every meeting, in which the first meeting activities better teacher in class VIII-A, the second meeting better in class VIII-B and the third meeting has the same score, while for student activities, class VIII-B is always more better than VIII-A, 3) there is no difference in learning outcomes between students of class VIII-A that is taught using STAD and the ARCS model of class VIII-B are taught using a model ARCS and NHT, 4) there is no difference between the learning motivation of class VIII-A students who are taught using STAD and the ARCS model of class VIII-B are taught using a model ARCS and NHT .

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana hubungan mesjid, lembaga sekolah, dan pasar dalam meningkatkan pendidikan di masyarakat. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode Observasi dan wawancara. Wawancara dilakukan dengan Kepala sekolah serta wali murid SMP Quba Kota Sorong. Adapun observasi dilakukan pada lingkungan sekolah, pasar, serta mesjid yang menjadi awal sekolah tersebut dibangun. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa di kota Sorong terdapat sebuah pasar dengan nama pasar Central. Pasar tersebut letaknya berdekatan dengan mesjid Quba. Keberadaan mesjid Quba di sekitar pasar Central memiliki peranan yang sangat penting bagi orang-orang yang sedang berniaga di pasar. Pasar dan mesjid tidak dapat dipisahkan keduanya saling membutuhkan dan saling menguntungkan antara satu dengan yang lainnya. Selain pasar dan mesjid, terdapat lembaga pendidikan yang barada di dekat lingkungan pasar tersebut, di kenal dengan nama SMP Quba. Walaupun letaknya berdampingan dengan pasar yang dikenal dengan keramainya setiap hati ini tidak menggurangi ataupun menggangu aktifitas belajar mengajar yang terjadi pada lembaga pendidikan tersebut Dengan melihat dari fungsi sekolah, maka SMP Quba yang berada disekitar pasar dan mesjid merupakan suatu kesatuan realitas kehidupan yang mampu menjadikan masyarakaynya menjadi masyarakat madani.

Abstract

Abstract This research aims to describe the Cooperative Learning Model Type Think-Pair-Share (TPS) that can improve students' mathematics learning outcomes. The research was conducted in sorong. The subject of this research was fifth grade class B at SD Muhammadiyah I Sorong in academic year 2010/2011. The students consist of 14 males and 24 females. The research was Classroom Action Research (PTK). The procedure and Implementation at the study site was divided into two cycles. In the first cycle performed four times of implementation by using Cooperative Learning Model Type Think-Pair-Share (TPS). The second cycle took four times with the same model. The observations took with the observation sheet has been prepared, and then reflected by writer and teacher to evaluate the research that has been run on each cycle and to improve the implementation of the next cycle. The technique of data collection was done by  using observation and tests. The data were performed with qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that students' mathematics learning outcomes at SD Muhammadiyah I fifth grade class B increases. At the beginning of test the average was 5,40 and at the end of the first cycle mean score was 5.84. Being at the end of second cycle the average was of 8,09. The action did  to stimulate the students' attention by giving preliminary description of matter at the beginning of the meeting, the student group discussions and presentations, providing competition, growing students’ curiosity by implementing the Cooperative Learning Model Type Think-Pair-Share (TPS). Giving the relevance of study based on students' experience and providing them the example that is relevant to students. To increase the students self confidence was done by giving them the opportunity to answer questions and write them down in front, giving verbal praise who are successful, providing the opportunity to the group to present the result of discussion, and provide feedback. To increase student satisfaction with verbal praise who are successful, notify the student test results obtained, and giving appropriate rewards and not excessive.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan Model Cooperative Learning dan Teknik Napier yang dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika siswa. Siswa kelas IV B SD Muhammadiyah 2 Kota Sorong tahun ajaran 2012/2013 yang berjumlah 32 peserta didik dengan 17 peserta didik laki-laki dan 15 peserta didik perempuan sebagai subyek. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Prosedur pelaksanaan tindakan dan implementasi di lokasi penelitian terbagi dalam dua sikluls. Pada siklus ke-I dilakukan sebanyak tiga kali pertemuan dilanjutkan dengan tes siklus I, implementasi tindakan dengan Model Cooperative  Learning dan Teknik Napier. Siklus ke-II dilakukan tindakan sebanyak tiga kali pertemuan yang dilanjutkan dengan tes siklus II dengan model yang sama pada siklus I. Hasil tes siklus I dan siklus II dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan data hasil observasi peserta didik dianalisis secara kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang berlangsung selama dua siklus, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa pelaksanaan pembelajaran dengan Model Cooperative Learning dan Teknik Napier dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas IV B SD Muhammadiyah 2 Kota Sorong, yaitu pada siklus I dengan nilai rata-rata 46,88 dengan presentase ketuntasan belajar sebesar 24,99% yang berada pada kategori kurang, meningkat pada siklus II menjadi nilai rata-rata siswa 85,00 dengan presentase belajar sebesar 93,75% yang berada pada kategori sangat baik.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to explore and describe the process of problem solving geometry reach the level of visualization based on the Van Hiele theory. This type of research is descriptive explorative and qualitative approach. Subject of the study was obtained from the high school students who were tested on the level of Van Hiele geometry. Each level of visualization. The results of this study indicate that solving problems in geometry learners who attained think visualization is to identify problems and set goals using the language question.

Abstract

Abstract(The Use of Code Switching by Lecturers in Teaching Process at University of Muhammadiyah Sorong| Code Switching is a process of language which intentionally or unintentionally people talk affected by situation and topic with inserted other language when speaking their language. There were three main problems of this research (1). How often do the lecturers make code switching in the learning process? (2). What are types of code switching that used by lecturers in the learning process? (3). What are the factors cause the lecturers used code switching in the learning process? The method of this research was descriptive gualitative. To gain the data, this research used a recording device, field notes, and a guestionnaire. After analyzing the data, it concluded that all of the lecturers used code switching in the teaching learning process more than 244 occurrences of code switching and more 86.67Y”6 responded agree that they often did code switching when teaching. They did code switching based on their material and orally. The writer also found the English codes with added Indonesian prefix and suffix likes dismoothkan, diprint out, utilizingnya, etc. Then, freguently of the codes were Fisheries Faculty 111 of occurrences (45.49”o) Engineering Faculty 59 (24.180), Law of Faculty 25 (10.25Y9), Sociology Faculty and Administrative Science 25 (10.25Y6) and the remaining 24 occurrences (9.84”6) are Agriculture Faculty. About 54 statements that shown as situational code switching and nine statements were metaphorical code switching. And ten out 15 factors that the lecturers agree from statements contained in the guestionnaire and five factors were disagreed.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan Pendekatan SAVI yang dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika siswa. Subyek penelitian yang dikenai tindakan adalah siswa kelas VB SDIT Al-Izzah Sorong tahun ajaran 2012/2013 yang berjumlah 14 siswa perempuan. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Prosedur pelaksanaan tindakan dan implementasi di lokasi penelitian terbagi dalam dua siklus. Pada siklus pertama dilakukan sebanyak empat kali pertemuan, implementasi tindakan dengan Pendekatan SAVI. Siklus kedua dilakukan tindakan sebanyak empat kali pertemuan dengan model yang sama.Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (Classroom Action Research) yang dilakukan peneliti dengan melakukan kolaborasi bersama guru bidang studi. Dalam penelitian ini guru bidang studi berperan sebagai pengamat dan peneliti adalah sebagai perancang, pelaksana dan pengamat. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mendapatkan gambaran nyata tentang kualitas pembelajaran matematika menggunakan pendekatan SAVI (Somatic, Auditori, Visual, Intelektual).Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas VB SDIT Al-Izzah Sorong meningkat. Nilai rata-rata tes awal siswa 51.5 dan pada akhir siklus I nilai rata- ratanya 61,5 dengan standar deviasi 22,4, sedang pada akhir siklus II nilai rata-rata menjadi 71,4 dengan standar deviasi 17,7. Dengan menggunakan Pendekatan SAVI hasil belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika meningkat.
