Abstract

The purposes of the research were to determine: (1) the difference of improvement of students’ mathematical creative thingking ability (2) the difference of improvement of students’ self regulated learning, taught by open-ended based brain-gym and expository learning, (3) the interaction between learning method and students’ gender toward mathematics in increasing student’s mathematical creative thingking ability, and (4) the process of students’ answer in each learning. This research was quasi experimental research. The population of the research was all of the students at 7thgrade of Ar-Rahman Junior High School. The sample taken randomly, such as 7th-A (experiment class) and 7th-B (control class). The instruments of research were: (1) mathematical creative thinking ability test, and (2) self regulated learning scale. The result of trials to test mathematical creative thinking test are derived validity row by 0,640; 0,698; 0,709; 0,721; and 0,605 with a reliability test by 0,692. Data analysis was done using ANACOVA and ANAVA two ways formula. The results showed that (1) the improvement of mathematical creative thinking ability and self regulated learning students who received open-ended based brain-gym higher than students who received expository learning. (2) therewas no interaction between learning method and students’ gender toward mathematics in improvement student’s mathematical creative thingking ability, this is shown with significance value of 0.499 was greater than the significance level  = 0.05. (3) the process of answers of students who received open-ended learning-based brain-gym better than students who received expository. From this research, the researchers suggest to make good planning, attention to the characteristics of the students, efficient use of time, and for further research to be better explore further the others  capabilities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in combinatorics problem solving abilities of students after the problem based learning model has been applied. This research was conducted in two cycles. From the results of the initial test obtained a percentage of classical completeness of students' combinatorics problem solving ability of 0% with an average value of 1,24; in the first cycle it increased to 80% with an average of 2,80; and in cycle II it increased to 86,67% with an average of 2,86. Improved student test results are also seen in each combinatorics model. In the distribution model, the average value of students in the cycle I is 3,01 and in the cycle II increases to 3,06. In the partition model, the average value of students in the cycle I is 2,70 and in the cycle II increases to 2,81. In the selection model, the average value of students in the cycle I is 2.68 and in the cycle II increases to 2,70. The management of learning carried out by the teacher in the cycle I was included in the good category, in the cycle II it increased very well. From the results of these studies it can be concluded that the problem based learning model can improve students' combinatorics problem solving abilities.

Abstract

The ability of representation and mathematical reasoning is a mathematical ability that must be developed at every level of education. In addition to these cognitive aspects, affective aspects must also be developed in learning. One of which is the student's self concept. To find out the development of mathematical representation and reasoning abilities, as well as students' self concept, an evaluation tool is needed. This is the reason of the authors doing this research to produce reliable and accountable evaluation tools. The step of the research is compiling the grid, compiling the items test questions the ability of representation and mathematical reasoning as well as compiling the points of the statement of the scale of the self concept, validating with experts, conducting trials, scoring, and analyzing the characteristics of items. The results obtained are a reliable evaluation tool to measure the ability of representation and mathematical reasoning as well as the self concept of elementary students.

Abstract

This study was aimed to: (1) find out the use of active learning strategies with Peer Tutor techniques in VIII class SMPN 20 Medan on mathematics subjects, (2) find out the learning outcomes of students taught using active learning strategies with peer tutors in VII I class SMP 20 Medan on mathematics subjects, and (3) find out the effect of active learning strategies with peer tutoring techniques on mathematics learning outcomes of students in class VIII SMP 20 Medan. This research is quantiative research. The population is all students of VIII class SMPN 20 Medan. Sample of this study is class VIII 3 as the experimental class and class VIII 2 as the control class with 30 students in each class. The instrument is used to determine student learning outcomes is a multiple choice test in the form of a pre test and post test that has been valid. The reliability of the test is 0.828. In this study, the normality test on the pre test data on the experimental class obtained L (0,122) < L table (0,161) and control class pre test data obtained L (0.091) < L table (0,161). Whereas the normality test on the post test data on the experimental class obtained L (0,091) < L table (0,161) and the control class post test data obtained L (0,122) < L table (0,161), which means that the pre-test and post-test data in the study sample had a normal distribution. In the homogeneity test the pre test data obtained F (1,821) < F table (1,859) and post test data obtained F (1,643) < F table (1,859 ), which means the pre test data and post test on the sample used in the study is homogeneous population. From the results of the calculation of the analysis of variance sig.  = 0,05, obtained t (2,030) > t table (1,672), so that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The conclusion of this study explains that the mathematics learning outcomes of students who are taught with active learning learning strategies with peer tutoring techniques are better than the mathematics learning outcomes of students who are taught with conventional learning in VIII class SMP 20 Medan 2017-2018 Academic Year.

Abstract

The problem in this study was the low interest in learning students to learn mathematics in students of class XI IPA MAN 1 Medan. This is evident from observations and interviews that researchers did. The results show a lack of understanding of students in learning mathematics so that more innovative teacher efforts and strategies are needed. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the ability of mathematical understanding of students of class XI MIA-2 MAN 1 Medan after the implementation of the Course Review Horay type of cooperative learning model. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research and quantitative descriptive research, with a case study approach. The research subjects were XI MIA-2 MAN 1 Medan field class high, medium and low ability categories.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to see the effectiveness of interactive multimedia in terms of geometric reasoning skill of junior high school students in grade VIII. The interactive multimedia used was Flash with the content is polyhedron for grade VIII students. The subjects were students of class VIII.7 SMPN 5 Yogyakarta. The instruments used were the geometric reasoning skill tests. Interactive multimedia is effective if at least 75% of students reach the minimum criteria of mastery learning in geometric reasoning skill test and at least 75% of students’ proportion is categorized in high category or above. The result of students’ geometric reasoning skill test shows that the developed product is in effective category. This is because 75% of students reach the minimum criteria of mastery learning. Based on the hypothesis test with 5% of significance level, it is obtained the proportion of students who had geometric reasoning skill in high category or above is more than or equal to 75%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study to determine: the effect of cooperative learning type of STAD to improve problem solving ability mathematics between students who were given cooperative learning type STAD with students and who were given direct learning. The type of this research is a quasi-experimental research by taking samples from the existing population. The variable of this research consist of independent variable that is cooperative learning type STAD while the dependent variable is problem solving mathematics ability of student. This research was conducted at SMP Swasta Al-Maksum Percut Sei Tuan. This research will be conducted in the even semester of the academic year 2017/2018. The population in this study is all students  of SMP Swasta Al-Maksum Percut Sei Tuanand the sample in this study are students of grade eight by taking two classes that are VIII-4as experimental class and VII1-1as control class by random. Technique of collecting data in this research by using test. Test used is the problem solving mathematics ability test (pre test and post test). Data that have been collected then analyzed and performed hypothesis testing by using regression test. Based on the results of the analysis is obtained: there are effects of cooperative learning type STAD to improve student problem solving mathematics ability. Therefore, it is suggested that cooperative learning type STAD be used as an alternative for teachers to improve student problem solving mathematics ability.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of Bamboo Dancing learning models on mathematical communication skills of students in class VIII of MTs Al-Ittihadiyah Medan. This research was a quantitative research, with a type of quasi-experimental research. The population was all students of class VIII MTs Al-Ittihadiyah Medan 2016/2017 Academic Year. The sample of this study was students of class VIII-4, which amounted to 26 people as the experimental class, and students of class VIII-5 which amounted to 26 people as the control class. From the analysis of the data obtained findings that there are differences in the mathematical communication skills of students in the experimental class using Bamboo Dancing learning models and control classes that use conventional learning. The average value of the experimental class for the initial test (pre-test) was 43.85 with a standard deviation of 9.20, while the average value for the final test (post-test) was 81.54 with a standard deviation of 9.98. In the control class the average value obtained for the initial test (pre-test) was 48.08 with a standard deviation of 10.01, whereas for the final test score (post-test) was 75.38 with a standard deviation of 13,11. In hypothesis testing using the t-test with sig. , obtained by t = 2.011, and t table = 2.009, thus obtained t t tabel atau 2,011 t table or 2.011 2,009, so that Ha  is accepted, namely there is a significant influence between the Bamboo Dancing learning model on the mathematical communication skills of students in class VIII of MTs Al-Ittihadiyah Medan.

Abstract

Playing is near the world of children. The development of the times, science and technology make the purpose of playing not only for mere pleasure, but also need to be inserted educative values in it. The snake ladder game is a game that is liked by elementary school students. Learning mathematics with a snake ladder game media can motivate students to continue learning to develop their abilities by actively involving students in learning. The game of snakes and ladders combined with smart cards can help the students' mathematical learning process to build up flat material. Learning by playing can provide opportunities for students to explore, discover themselves, practice and get a variety of concepts and innumerable understandings and this is where the learning process takes place The teacher is not only limited to transferring knowledge but also guiding students to be skilled in finding concepts of knowledge with experience itself through an inspirational and pleasant learning atmosphere. Thus mathematics subjects which are one of the important sciences that are learned for elementary school students, because they are always used in solving problems in everyday life into pleasant subjects.

Abstract

This study aims to find out 1) the ability of students to understand problems in solving story problems in SPLDV material; 2) the ability of students to plan strategies for solving story problems on SPLDV methods; 3) the ability of students to carry out the strategy to solve the story problems on SPLDV material and 4) the ability of students to prove the truth of the results and interpret the results of the solution to the initial questions in solving the story problems on SPLDV material. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research subjects were 22 VIII-5 graders at Bandar T.A State MTs. 2017/2018. Interview respondents were 6 students and 1 math teacher. The methods in this study are observation, tests, interviews and documentation. The data used are the results of tests and interviews. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion conclusions. Checking the validity of the data used is a triangulation technique. The results of the study showed that the ability of students to understand the problem and to plan a problem solving strategy for story problems was very high. Kemempuan uses sufficient problem solving problem solving strategies while the ability to prove the truth of the results and interpret the results of the settlement to the initial questions in the less category.
