Abstract

This article examined the interpretation of several verses in Tafsir al-Huda by Bakri Syahid, major in relation to gender issues. There are several themes studied, such as: the rewards of deeds of charity, the origin of the creation of man, polygamy, inheritance formula 1: 2, and leadership in the household. In this study, the author tried to understand the interpretation of Bakri with the interpretive-hermeneutical approach. This approach aims to describe and analyze the interpretation of the figures against the verses of the Qur'ān discussed in the theme of gender construction. The Qur'an interpretation that has been done by ulama can not be separated from the conditions of social culture surround them. It's called prior text. Tafsir al-Hudā, the interpretation of Bakri's work is one of them. His interpretation is influenced by Javanese culture, beside his military and his work as academics. It seems when he interpreted verses about woman in the Qur'an, Bakri accommodated the culture for woman and man in Java. In addition, the writer analyzed the existence of gender bias or not in their interpretation by using gender equality theory Mansour Fakih. This theory suggests that gender racism and gender differences manifest in five ways: a) subordination, b) marginalization, c) stereotypes, d) violence, and e) double burden. In the first three interpretations (the rewards of deeds of deeds, the origins of human creation, and polygamy), Bakri seems to carry equality. While two other things (in terms of inheritance formula 1: 2 and household leadership), the interpretation appears to contain subordination and marginalization of women.

Abstract

This article elaborate the historical root of tafsir maqasidi through these steps:1) describing the four periods of the history of tafsir; 2) deducing points, from each period, which could provide an idea on the history of tafsir maqashidi, either theoretically or practically; 3) and providing examples of tafsir maqashidi. This article is done by documentation, by searching, reading, and reviewing qualitative data to be collected and analyzed by deductive method. The results of the article show: 1) historical roots of tafsir maqa>s{idi> have an intertwined with the history of tafsir in general, namely: marḥalat al-tasīs, marḥalat al-taṣīl, marḥalat al-tafrī, and marḥalat al-tajdi>d. 2) among the points that can be explained related to the historical roots of tafsir maqas{idi> that is: a) in the tasīs period, there embryo maqāṣid al-shari>’ah. For example, there is a triple divorce in one majlis which is punishable by a single divorce at the time of the Prophet, during the time of Umar ra. punishable by three divorces, with consideration of urf, for the benefit; b) in the tafrī period, born three maqāṣid al-shari>’ah theories. first, al-Tūfī argues that the Shariah is none other than mas}lah}ah itself, so if nas} is contrary to mas}lah}ah then take precedence of mas}lah}ah (alā sabīl al-takhṣīṣ); secondly, al-Gazalī states that "mas}lah}ah" is nothing but the Sharia itself, so the theory of mas}lah}ah is taken inductively from nas {{; Third, al-Shāṭibī argues that mas}lah}ah and sharia are one unity, so if nas} that opposed to mas}lah}ah is qot}i> al-dalālah, then nas {is precedence, and if nas} that opposed to mas}lah}ah is dhanni> al-dalālah, then mas}lah}ah is precedence; c) in the tajdi>d period, classical maqāṣid concepts that are protection and preservation, altered by some contemporary Muslims such as Jasser Auda into a new concept of development and rights. The idea of contemporaryization of this terminology was then rejected by many fuqaha. 3) an example of the application of tafsir maqāṣidi> is the interpretation of the Quran surah al-Nu>r verse 2 in the context of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. In this case there is a taāruḍ between nas which enjoins the caning and "mas}lah}ah". The application of the Islamic Criminal law in Indonesia to date has not received sufficient political support, so it will lead to greater mafsadah. Therefore, mas}lah}ah takes precedence and is made as takhṣīṣ above nas}.

Abstract

This article specifically studied about Khaled Abou el Fadl’s thought about the authority and authoritarianism in the interpretation. The Qur'an, divine Kalam, has the ultimate authority in human life, where it’s part of God's manifestation in realizing the intent and purpose. The effort to understand the Qur'an has been done since the verse was revealed and even developed in accordance with the times and has produced many exegetical products, such as Sufi interpretation, fiqh, philosophy, etc. The Divine Message neatly arranged in the Qur'an has been shaped a text. The text as a sign represents the Divine purpose in conveying its meaning. Therefore, the reader must be wise and careful in understanding the text of the Qur'an. If the reader is careless in understanding al Qur’an though only slightly, they will be authoritarian people.

Abstract

Qur’anic studies never ends. It is done by both intellectual moslems and orientalists (non moslem). Abdullah Saeed, an intellectual moslem who lives in non moslem area (Australia), is one of those who studies Qur’an deeply. To understand and interpret Qur’an contextually, he offers an approach called contextualist approach. Then, Saeed also makes hierarchy of values taken from Qur’anic verses. This is known that not all verses must be conformed to place and time, but some should be understood and interpreted universally. While others depend on place and time (particularly). The steps of interpreting, called model of interpretation by Saeed, with contextualist approach encounter with the world of the text, critical analysis, meaning for the first recipients, and meaning for the present. an example of Saeed’s interpretation of the verses about usury connected to interest is given in the last of this article.

Abstract

This paper Examined one of the main themes in the Ulumul Quran study that is asbāb al-nuzūl. The Quran is a Divine kalam which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad who lived in the midst of an Arab society that had its own traditions and culture. Because it could be said that the Quran is not born from a vacuum of culture, it was closely related to the surrounding environment. To know the circumstances in which the Quran was revealed, it is necessary to know asbāb al-nuzūl. In Ulumul Qurans classic literature, the study of science was highly prioritized because it helped in understanding the verses of the Quran. One of the interesting figures in studying asbāb al-nuzūl is M. Amin Abdullah. He divides the term into two: asbāb al-nuzūl al-qadīm and asbāb al-nuzūl al-jadīd. The first term refers to classical clerical studies that are only oriented to the past as they are found in the books of Ulumul Quran. Asbāb al-nuzūl al-qadīm is considered incapable of explaining the problems of the present so there must be a study of asbāb al-nuzūl al-jadīd. This term is one form of contextual study of the verses of the Quran to be more relevant and able to answer the problem of the present. Although Amin Abdullahs study has not been comprehensive but he has tried to develop a contemporary Quranic study with a new version. Between asbāb al-nuzūl al-qadīm and asbāb al-nuzūl al-jadīd must be coupled simultaneously in order to create a complete understanding of the Quran.

Abstract

Ahmadi is an Islamic group based in India. The group stressed the aspects of ideological-eschatological because this group is mahdiistik with the belief that the al-Mahdi viewed as "Judge Peng-Islah" or as a "peacemaker". Al-Mahdi in the Ahmadiyya faith was Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, who has the task to reunite the split Muslims, both in the field of faith and the Sharia. Of belief, jemaat this very rapidly growing in Indonesia. As this church already exists in various regions in Indonesia, such as the Ahmadiyah in Gondrong Tangerang, Banten (JAG). This study examines the understanding of the concept of the caliphate in members of Ahmadiyah. This research is a field, namely the phenomenon of living Quran. which will lead to a study that examines the living Quran verses of the Koran understanding of the concept of the caliphate held by JAG, and also internalization in their daily lives are realized in a variety of receptions, both hermeneutic, aesthetic, and cultural. Sociological approach to the theory of Pierre Bourdieus habitus become a foothold in this paper. Understanding the concept of the caliphate is the basis of understanding and JAG members have internalized that manifested itself in several ways, namely solidarity, unity, sacrifice, and social.

Abstract

The companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW who had contributed to compile and rewrite the Qur'an is very important to be known by Muslims especially, because then we can remember who contributed to record the Qur'an. So Muslims today can easily read and memorize the Qur'an. Especially in the modern era today, the Qur'an is no longer in the form of Mushaf but has been transformed in digital form and can be downloaded for free in order to facilitate Muslims to read it so as not to be limited by space and time. But it can not be separated from the services of the companions of the Prophet who has recorded the Qur'an neatly as we read today. Therefore, this study is a literature review documenting the names of friends of the Prophet who have great merit in the bookkeeping of the Qur'an. The writers of revelation called katibu al-wahyi> (the writers of revelation) recorded in some historians amounted to 26 friends. While al-halabi argues that the author of the revelation amounted to 44 friends, but there are only 10 friends who mashur well-known among the friends of the Prophet namely Abu Bakr, Umar bin khattab, usman bin Affan, Ali Bin Abi Talib, Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan Zubayr bin al-Awam , Sa'id bin al-Ash, Amr bin al-'Ash, Ubay bin Ka'ab, Zayd bin Thabit. And of the ten companions, Zayd bin thabit wrote the most revelation of the Qur'an especially the passages revealed in Medina, because he was the personal secretary of Rosulullah

Abstract

There isn’t frequent contiguity of Muslims and holy Quran. They are afraid to interpret it. Otherwise, there are people interpret holy Quran at will without the knowledge capacity. This article explores and analyzes the mental and knowledge requirements of interpreter by Socrates’s dialectic theory to find the universal or temporal, flexible, and local requirements of interpreter. This article contributes as first foundation before interpret holy Quran.

Abstract

Sebagai hudan li al-nas, al-Qur’an sudah barang tentu bukan hanya petunjuk dalam arti metafisis-eskatologis, tetapi juga menyangkut masalah-masalah praktis kehidupan manusia di alam dunia, termasuk di dalamnya patokan-patokan dasar tentang bagaimana manusia menyantuni alam semesta dan mengkonservasionis lingkungan sekitarnya. Tulisan ini akan mengintroduksi beberapa cara atau upaya manusia dalam mengkonservasi lingkungan. Tulisan difokuskan pada penelusuran ayat-ayat tentang ekologi, baru kemudian menelisik dan menelaah ayat-ayat yang berhubungan dengan konservasi lingkungan dalam al-Qur’an. Dengan demikian, metode yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini adalah tematik. Yakni menjadikan ayat-ayat al-Qur’an yang berkaitan dengan konservasi lingkungan sebagai kajian utama, kemudian disarikan nilai-nilai universalnya untuk dijadikan landasan normatif dalam upaya mengkonservasi lingkungan.

Abstract

This paper studied about how the Qur'anic view of the concept of breastfeeding through the interpretation of QS al-Baqarah (2): 233, and QS al-Thalâq (65): 6. To get Comprehensive analysis results, the writer used thematic tafsir as research methodology. The writer tried to relate it to psychological aspects as supporting argument for the hadith information. The concept of breastfeeding in the maximal Qur'an concerns the following: the meaning of radla'ah, the definition of al-walidat, the law of breastfeeding, the duration of breastfeeding, and the provision of the livelihood that should be given to the wife. Like the wisdom of the rad command (a'ah) which Allah calls for in the Qur'an for the disciples to breastfeed their children for two years that is because God knows about the times that a baby needs the love of a mother. At that time the baby is still creating the physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspect. In order for parents are able to carry out God's mandate, then surely the baby will grow and develop with healthy conditions physically and spiritually. This was also supported by findings on breastfeeding problems from a medical and psychiatric perspective. Breastfeeding will provide an opportunity for babies to grow into humans who have more stable emotions and better social development. Breast milk is an important food and the only source of life for babies in the first months of life. The best milk for children is breast milk because with breastfeeding comes the contact of love and affection between mother and child. Mother is the one who is most able to give love and real warmth to the child with her motherly instinct given by God sed.
