Abstract

The study of literature is signed by an inherent and important activity within it, i.e. interpretation. The activity of literature appreciation and literature criticism, both of its periphery and its orifice, deals with literature studies that should be interpreted. Every interpretation activity of literature works always involves in a hermeneutical process. Hence, hermeneutics occupies a crucial position and it is impossible to disregard it in the analyis of the literature works. Based on that explanation, hermeneutics is something important to discuss comprehensively in order to obtain sufficient understanding. Hermeneutics developed in the literature interpretation deals closely with the development of hermeneutical thoughts, especially on the history of philosophy and theology because it begins to appear from these two subjects. To understand hermeneutics in the literature interpretation, it is necessary to comprehensively understand the history and the concept of hermeneutics, especially dealing with three variants of hermeneutics which develop in the tradition of modern hermeneutics: methodological or theoritical hermeneutics, philosophical hermeneutics, and critical hermeneutics. by understanding these three variants, it enables us to have sufficient understanding on hermeneutics in the literature studies. Keywords: hermeneutics, literature, catharsis, metodelogical level.

Abstract

This study tries to explore the education process of the perject man (insan kamil) in the sufi center/ zawiyyah of Ilmu Syaththariah. This study finds several points: firstly, in the Ilmu Syaththariah perspective, Wasithah is the elite respondent (the only reference) in having a religious. He is al-muthohharun (yang disucikan Tuhan) who is given ability to understand the Qur'an. The main fumtion of Wasithah is as the people of invocation (ahladz dzikri), uniting the human essence with the God essence in order that man can absolutety worship the God essence (not His name) when he conducts the religious activities. In praying, man must remember God in order that he is not sentenced to be negligent because one who is negligent to remember God is judged to come into the hell. Secondly, knowing the divine essence through being the people of invocation (ahli zikir) becomes the first step in the process of walking the way of being the perfect man. Then, it is followed by performing spiritual guide's advice wholeheartedly with heart, spirit, and intelledual intuition that always remember the essence of divine mystery. Thirdly, the education process of the perfect man emphasizes the consciousness of the discriples that being the perfect man is due to God's guidance. Therefore, the disciples are resuscitated in order to always hope obtaining His forgiveness, His merry, His help, His virtue, and always hope the Wasithah's grace and blessing. Man also hopes the easiness in performing all spiritual guides' advices until he reaches the spiritual degree (martabat) of the perfed man. Fourthly, the concept of the pe,fect man in the Ilmu Syaththariah perspective can be implemented in the education institutions. Based on the surory, it shows that the students who become the Syaththariah community look more faithful in the observance ef religious obligations than those who do not involve in this the Syaththariah community in the same education institutions.

Abstract

Debus is one of noticeable appearance of the relationship between local tradition of Banten and Islam (mystical brotherhood). This relationship causes not only the conformity but also the dispute and controversy among the community. How does the anthropological perspective view the practice of debus performance in the context of Islamic culture in the Archipelago? Keywords: Debus, Islam Banten, Wirid, Jangjawokan.

Abstract

The word hermeneutics derives from the Greek verb, hermeneuin. It means to interpret and to translate. Hermeneutics is divided into three kinds: the theory of hermeneutics, the philosophy hermeneutics, and the critical hermenmtics. Hasan Hanfi is known as the first scholar who introduces hermeneutics in the Islamic World through his work dealing with the new method of interpretation. Nashr Hamid Abu-Zaid is another figure who has much studied hermenmtics in the classical interpretation. Ali Harb is a figure who also much involved in discussing the critism of text even though he does not fully concern on literature or art, but on the thoughts. Muslim thinker who has similar view with Ali Harab in seeing that the backwardness of Arab-Islam from the West is caused by the system of thoguht used by Arah-Muslim not able to come out of obstinary and taqlid is Muhammad Syahmr. On the other side, ones who refuse hermeneutics argue that since its heginning, hermeneutics must be studied suspiciously because it is not derived from the Islamic tradition, but from the unbeliever scientific tradition, Jews and Chrtians in which they use it as a method to interpret the Bible. Practically, in interpreting the Qur'an, hermeneutics even strengthens something, namely the hegemony of scularism-liberalism in the Muslim World that Muslims must actually destroy. Keywords: Hermeneutics, Tafsir, al qur'an
