Abstract

This research is validation study of Semester Learning Plan of Basic Chemistry. This aims to know the validity of Semester Learning Plan of Basic Chemistry from Biology Education Program of Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin University. Validation is done by using expert consideration method. Instrument used is a questionnaire that has been analyzed using descriptive statistics. Data analysis results show that validity of the designed Basic Chemistry’s Semester Learning Plan is highly valid. To strengthen the results of the analysis, then performed the analysis of validity with the consideration of expert through CVR method. CVR score obtained is ± 1. This show that Basic Chemistry’s Semester Learning Plan is feasible and relevant used in the learning process. So, the conclusion is Basic Chemistry’s Semester Learning Plan is highly valid and can be used in learning process.

Abstract

Critical thinking is reasonable reflective thinking focused on deciding what to believe or do. The upper three levels of Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) are part of critical thinking. Purpose of this research was to improve critical thinking of tenth grade secondary students through Cooperative Learning Number Head Together (NHT). Type of this research was classroom action research. Subjects were 40 students of class X-6 MAN 2 Model Medan in year academic 2013/2014. This research had two cycles with three strategies to collecting data: experiencing, enquiring and examining. Researcher reflected students’ critical thinking through observation, test, interviews, and students’ records, before Cooperative Learning Numbered Head Together (NHT) is adopted in classroom. Data analysis was done by quantitative and qualitative approach. Based on data analysis, it shows that students’ critical thinking are increase from score percentage 32,42% at low level (before cyclus I) to 49,13% at medium level (after cyclus I) and 55,63% at medium level (after cyslus II). It can be concluded that students’ critical thinking can be improved by implementing cooperative learning numbered head together in the classroom.

Abstract

Module based on guided discovery learning can be used as an alternative to improve student’s activeness and understanding the concept. This research aims to develop redox reaction and electrochemical cell module based on guided discovery learning and reveals its validity and practicability. The type of this research is a development research using 4-D development model. The research instrument used was a questionnaire in the form of validity and practicality sheet. This module was validated by 3 UNP chemistry lecturers and 2 chemistry teachers of SMAN 10 Padang. Practicality test were conducted on 2 chemistry teachers and 32 twelfth grade students of SMAN 10 Padang. Data were analyzed by Cohen’s Kappa formula. The results of the validity test showed that the module has a very high validity category (k=0.83). Practicality test results by teachers and students showed that the module has high practicality category (k=0.79 and 0.80). Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the module developed was valid, practical.

Abstract

In the 2013 curriculum the learning process uses 21st century skills, while for the assessment process uses authentic assessment. Based on the observation of class VII SMP Negeri in Lima Kaum Tanah Datar district, the teachers in the school have not fully implemented the Curriculum 2013. This resulted in a gap in the compliance of National Education Standards, especially on process standards and assessment standards.The aim of this research is a describe the understanding of science teachers in implementing the 2013 Curriculum in the class VII especially on standard process and assessment standard. This research was conducted in junior high school in Kecamatan Lima Kaum Tanah Datar. The population in this research is science teacher in class VII consisting of 8 science teachers.The sampling technique used is total sampling. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and document analysis. The data obtained were analyzed using percentage technique and made according to the descriptive sub indicator.The results revealed the understanding of science teachers on the implementation of Curriculum 2013 class VII in SMP Negeri Se-Kecamatan Lima Kaum Tanah Datar. 1. Understanding of science teachers on the implementation of Curriculum 2013 based on process standard that is 80,5% with good criteria. 2. Understanding of science teachers on the implementation of Curriculum 2013 based on the standard assessment is 83.4% with good criteria.

Abstract

This research is important as a solution to the problems faced by most students in the Physics Education Statistics course. The problem in this study is that students have not been able to solve the statistical problems correctly, becausetheir ability in solving the statistical problems given by lecturers in the class is low. This is also caused by abstract and difficult material to understand by students. In addition, the source books used in lectures are only in the form of a reference books and have not been oriented to problem-solving steps related to daily life such as educational issues. This study aims to analyze the needs in developing teaching materials of Physics Education Statistics with Problem Solving model. This research is an early stage of research and development using ADDIE model in the form of analysis phase. Data collected by using questionnaire given to physics education students listed on semester July-December 2017. Data analysis technique used in the form of descriptive statistical analysis. The results show several things; 1) The teaching materials used by the lecturers in the course have not been entirely appealing for the students to be reviewed independently, 2) the task that has been given by the lecturer are able to motivate the students to solve it, 3) lecturers have provided guidance to students in solving problems, but not yet using varied method, 4) the material presented in the lecture has not been fully understood by the students, as some of the material is still abstract, 5) Only a small percentage of students can answer statistical problems quickly and correctly, 6) Students have enough basic math skills, but only some students can use the statistical formula correctly, and 7) Students who are able to correctly depict distribution and graphic curves are sufficient. The conclusion of this study is the need of development of teaching materials Statistics of Physics Education using problem solving model.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of students are caused by several problems encountered during the learning process, such as IPA learning process still used teacher centered and lecturing methode. The result of student learning competence still low result and the teacher hasn’t yet used learning models can make student will be active. One effort was made to improve students learning competence by applying problem solving learning models. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of problem solving, learning model to the students learning competence SMP 13 Padang. This study is an experimental research using the design of The Static Group Comparison. The study population is all students of Class VIII  SMPN 13 Padang. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. The control class uses the learning model commonly used in the classroom IE discovery learning model and experimental class using a problem solving learning model. The research instrument used is a test of learning result and affective and skill assessment in the form of observation sheet. Data were analyzed using t-test for knowledge, competence because the data were normally distributed and homogeneously. Data were analyzed using up-test for affective and skill competence.Result of hypothesis test in both classes of sample, found that class which uses problem solving, learning model have positive effect of student learning competence of Class VIII 6 SMPN 13 Padang such as knowledge, affective and skill competence

Abstract

Problem solving ability is a skill that each student must have in mathematics learning. But the fact is, there were many students who are constrained when faced to solving mathematic problem. This situation happens due to the student’s habit to imitate the teacher’s answer that is given during the learning. When the student is given a different kind of problem, they were confused and not able to finish it. This papers discuss the results of problem-based learning to the problem-solving ability for the junior high school student. The study begins by designing problem-based learning devices, followed by applying of the device in learning process, then examined the impact on the problem solving ability of the junior high school student. The results showed that problem-based learning have a positive impact on the problem solving ability of junior high school student.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to increase students’ answering activity and quality of the answer to questions asked in Strategi Pembelajaran Kimia course. This research was done in two cycles each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. Instruments used in this research were observation sheet and questionnaire. Prompting questions had been designed for each meeting. Primary action given was asking prompting questions in learning. Two observers did observation and lecture was recorded with camera. Observation data from observers and camera recording were analyzed descriptively to get percentage of students who answered question before and after prompting was given as well as to get percentage of keywords in the answer given by students. The result showed that students’ answering activity increased after prompting was given. The quality of the answer got better with prompting questions as well. The aid of visual media given in the next cycle showed that students dared to explain concepts they had not been familiar with. Other actions that increased students’ answering activity were time and reward givings. Data from questionnaire distributed at the end of the course showed that students like prompting questions because they could understand the question and concept asked and then find the answer.

Abstract

This research was the qualitative research that aimed to improve students understanding of junior high mathematics study. In accordance with the object to be studied, then this research is done in 3 times open class consisting of the plan, do, and see for each cycle, with the subject of research was the students of mathematics education department of  FKIP UNIPA whom contracting subjects junior mathematics studies. To improve students understanding of the material, implementation of peer tutor methods was continuously modified based on the findings of each cycle. Based on the results of the implementation of Lesson Study as much as 3 cycles obtained the concluded that the learning outcomes of learners used peer tutor approach that modified each cycle has a significant increase. This was evident from students who answered the test correctly given at the end of each meeting. In the first cycle, from 27 students only 4 who can answer the test correctly that is equal to 14.81%, the second cycle, from 27 learners only 10 which was able to answer the test correctly that was equal to 37,04%, whereas in cycle III, from 26 students 21 students able to answer correctly that was equal to 80,77%

Abstract

One of the problems found in the implementation of the curriculum of 2013 is not all competency skills can be performed well. Therefore, to overcome these problems, virtual laboratory designed to competencies skill  of physics. One of the design objectives virtual laboratory is to improve the quality of education and learning in physics in high school. The method used in this study is a research method development four D model with the definition phase , design phase , development phase, and dissemination phase.  Research has reached the stage of development and has been tested valid specialist. The instrument used in the research is a questionnaire consisting of: 1) the material substance; 2) The display of visual communication; 3) instructional design; 4) the use of software;  and 5) Linguistic. The results obtained to test the validity in general has been very good category (85.6), so that the design of virtual labs designed can already be used in high school.
