Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is a loss of brain function caused by the cessation of blood supply to the brain. One of the most common clinical disorders of stroke is ingesting or dysphagia. This study aims to identify the effect of ingesting exercise to stroke patients with dysphagia in the General Hospital of Haji General Hospital of Makassar City. Method: The design of this study was pre experimental with One Group Pre-Post Test Design. Samples in this study were all stroke patients with dysphagia with Convenience Sampling technique, obtained 20 respondents. Rehabilitation of ingesting exercise is done three times a day at breakfast, lunch, and dinner for seven days in a row. Evaluation of respondents ingesting status was done on the first day before exercise and last day after practicing exercise. Result: Bivariate results showed that there was an influence between stroke patients with dysphagia and ingesting exercises (p <0.001). Conclusion: It is further recommended that nurses perform structured ingesting exercises as self-care nursing intervention in dealing with stroke patients who have dysphagia.

Abstract

Introduction: In preschool age, the social aspects of children personal development can be influenced by some factors. They are parenting parents, environment conditions, and peers. The unfulfilled social personal development in preschool children will cause children being passive, fearful, and less initiative. This study aimed to identify factors associated with achievements of social personal task in children of  TK Al-Jabar at Barugae village Bulukumpa district Bulukumba regency. Method: Descriptive analytic with cross sectional approach, for 47 respondents. Result: Some factors like parenting parents (p=0.015), environment condition (0,026), are related to the achievements of social personal tasks of preschool children in TK Al-Jabar at Barugae village. While Peers (p=0,191) do not have a correlation to the achievement of social personal task of preschool children in TK Al-Jabar at Barugae village Bulukumpa district Bulukumba regency. Conclusion: There is a relationship between parenting parents with personal tasks of social achievement. Although, the relation of two variables is moderate. Therefore,  involvement of all parties:parents, communities, teachers and the nursing professions in this case needs to be actively developed in promotive and preventive efforts for achieving the social personal task of preschool children

Abstract

Introduction: Survivor breast cancer who underwent supportive care have many unmet needs, they are also many reported having a poor quality of life. This study aims to assess and describe the level of fulfillment of supportive care breast cancer survivors. Method: This study used quantitative method with descriptive analytic approach. The number  of sample were  40 people came from the chemotherapy room and  and surgical treatment room of Ibnu Sina Hospital of Makassar, in the period of July 2016. The data were collected through  questionnaire of  Supportive Care Needs Survey Short Form 34 (SCNS-SF34) to assess the level of supportive care  survivors of breast cancer patients. Result: The results indicate that from  5 domains which need of  supportive care,there are  three domainsnot meeting the needs, namelypsychological,  information systems and health, and the third is support and care needs. While the fulfilled needs are physical, daily activities and sexual need. There are 80% of breast cancer survivors undergoing bad life quality and only 20%  undergo  good quality of life. Conclucion: The fulfilment level of supportive care survivors of   breast cancer needs generally are not met, the highest needfound is psychological need domain.

Abstract

Introduction: Knowledge and understanding of  care of families will have an impact on their attitudes and behavior in delivering care to elderly’s daily activities. By using knowledge, the family will take right attitude in caring elderly to achieve the optimal health. This study aims determine the effect of caregiver’s training to the independence level of family in caring elderly with hypertension.Method: This study used a pre experimental one group pre test post test design. The instrument was used a questionnaire and observational sheet. Sample in this study were 35 people. The test used was alternative wilcoxon test with the significance α=0.05.Result: The result was obtained that before training, all of caregivers, 35 (100 %)  at a level of independence rate I. After training, 8 (23 %) at a level of independence rate I, 8 (23 %) at a level of independence rate II, 6 (17 %) at a level of independence rate III, 13 (37.1 %) at a level of independence rate IV. There are significant effect of the independence of caregiver after training (p=0.000).Conclusion: There are also significant effect of the knowledege and skill of caregiver after training. This study recommends a further study to observe motivation of caregiver in changing their attitudes of caring to elderly.

Abstract

Introduction: Lower level of caring in Indonesian nurses related to emotional intelligence level of nursing, and  assertion to nurses for always being professional in any circumstances and this condition relatated to emotional intelligence which is formed when undergoing nursing education along emotional intelligence phenomena  in nurses period of education and period of profession education  between regular students and non-regular students. Method: the design of this study is descriptive research with crossectional approach. Sample selection technique using disproportionate stratified random sampling, with the number of respondent about 128 respondents. Primary data was obtained through a TEIQUE questionnaire in the form of question about Emotional Itelligence and the ability of recognizing emotion, managing emotion, self motivation, empathy, social skill Result: This study shows that, 55 % respondents have a high emotional intelligence and higer in term of recognizing emotion ability (80.5 %), managing emotion ability (56.3 %), self motivation ability (92.2 %), empathy ability (59.4 %), and social skill ability (63.3 %). Respondent characteristics who have higer in emotional intelligence were from adults (56.4 %), woman (56.4 %), unreguler students (96.4 %), widow/widowed marriage status (69.2 %), student who do not entered any organization (76.1 %), and students in seventh grade (69.4 %).Conclusion: : the result showed that more than half respondents have higer emotional intelligence (managing emotion ability, self motivation ability, empathy ability, social skill ability ) so that give us information about description of Emotional Intelligence in Undergraduate Hasanuddin University Nursing Students.

Abstract

Introduction: The high number of divorce in Indonesia would cause big impacts to children. Nowadays, family with single parents used to have specific problems. It is caused by the condition that only one person who grow their child. Most of them, teenagers who loss their fathers in their 11 or 15 years old (teenage middle age) felt emotional distress such us, loneliness, sadness, and lack of attentions. Aims of study is to know about  Emotional Maturity of teenagers having Mother as Single Parents in SMA Negeri 1 Maiwa, Enrekang City. Method: This research is a quantitative study with descriptive analytic design. The Sampling Method of this research is Total Sampling. With number of sample is 33 teenagers. Result: this research showed that 93.9% respondents, have a high dependence, 97% of respondents have a high acceptance of reality, 78.8% respondents have skills in right response, 97% of respondents have high safe feeling, and 57% of respondents have high adaptation skills, 100% of respondents have high empathy skill, 66.7% of respondents have  high emotion control, therefore 100% of respondents have  positive emotional maturity. Conclusion: Most respondents have high emotional maturity (dependence, acceptance of reality skill, right response skill, safe feeling, adaptation skill, empathy skill, and emotion control skill). Therefore, it could be new information about teenage emotional maturity from those having mothers as single parents, and hopefully this study could help and build maturity of teenagers in SMA Negeri 1 Maiwa, Enrekang City.

Abstract

Introduction: Health literacy is one of health determinants  public health development goals. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of precede-proceed education model on health literacy of patients suffer from hypertension in the working area of Pattingalloang Health Centre Makassar. Method: The research employed quasy-experimental method using nonequivalent control design. The research sample was 40 people. The sample was determined using purposive sampling. Data were obtained using questionnaire and interview then it is analyzed by Mann-Whitney and Spearman statistical test. Results: The results showed that: (1) There was differences in the functional health literacy between  hypertension patient group provided with an education and group without education intervention; (2) There was no significant difference in communicative and critical health literacy between group with education intervention and group without education intervention. However, proportion of health literacy of patient with education intervention was better; (3) there was a relation between respondent characteristics, health service access, health information access, and social support that the patient obtained and health literacy. Conclusion: The availability of education to hypertension patients by modifying the precede-proceed model were giving influence to health literacy. This study suggest that involvement of health workers expecially for nurses, in an effort to improve health literacy of patients with counseling, home visite for patients and their families

Abstract

Background: School Health Unit is an effort to build healthy habits in order to improve students health through three main programs, namely health education, health services, and healthy environment development. Development of school resilience was conducted through a healthy school environment. Due to improving the health of school communities, an healthy school environment should be created. Purpose: To identify the indicators of healthy school environment development of school health unit program: at Public Primary Schools in Bontobahari Bulukumba district. Methods: The descriptive survey with cross sectional study design. The population of 27 schools with random cluster sampling technique. The obtained samples were 13 schools. Results: The results showed that there were 10 schools (76.9%) with good category and three schools (23.1%) with adequate category. All the schools meet the indicator of the room and buldings, lighting, garbage, noise, and sewerage. Most of the schools meet the indicator of the board distance, classroom density, clean water, cafeteria/eatery, and school grounds. Only a limited number of schools meet the indicator of the ventilation, hand-washing facility, and behavior. All the schools eligible indicators of the learners table and WC/Toilet. Conclusion: The development of healthy school environment at Public Primary Schools on sub-district of Bontobahari in Bulukumba district were in good category. It is hoped that the next researcher would examine other indicators overview of school health unit program, namely health education and health service.

Abstract

Introduction: Women in difficulty delivery process need a psychosocial nursing care in order to reduce their stress that in turn will affect the delivery process. The aim of this study is to identify the experience and expectation of psychosocial nursing care in women who have experienced childbirth difficulties in Makassar.Method: This research used qualitative research method. Seven women who participated in this research are selected by purposive sampling. Data are analyzed using Collaizi method.Result: Result are grouped into physical and psychological complaints during childbirth difficulties, effort to overcome complaint, family responses during childbirth difficulties, experience and perception of physical and psychosocial nursing care during childbirth difficulties, and expectation of psychosocial nursing care during childbirth difficulties. Conclusion: Variation of psychosocial nursing care is needed, in order to minimize the impact of childbirth difficulties.

Abstract

Introduction: Nurses as professionals must provide services in accordance with the competence and authority possessed either individually or as part of a hospital team. Thus, there is a need to manage the resources of nursing  such as the professional career development system for nurses. The study aimed to identify the perception and expetation of the nurses on the implementation of career ladder in two hospitals in Makassar city. Method: This research used quantitative method with the cross sectional design. There were 105 nurses from Hasanuddin University Hospital and 212 nurses from Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital involved as samples in this study. The samples were chosen using the disproportionate stratified random sampling technique. The data were collected through questionnaires to find out the nurse perception including some open ended  question to explore the nurses expectation from this career ladder program.  The data were  analyzed using descriptive statistic and mann-whitney to seee the differences perception between the groups. Result: The result revealed although that mean of perception about the implementation of career ladder in two hospitals are considered good (m=3.70 dan m=3.94), there was differences of nurses perception in both hospitals (p=0.00). Conclusions: Meanwhile, the result of open-ended questions about nurses expectation about the implementation of the career ladder emphasized that there should  be a schedule for training for their professional improvement. Evaluation for further assessment for higher levels of career ladder also considered important for the nurses in both hospitals. Furthermore, the rewards or incentives for the nurses received shold be appropriate according to the career levels. In conclusion, the implementation of career ladder program in both hospitals have been considered good, however, the hospitals need to support the nurses and pay attention to factors that could influence the nurses satisfaction of the program.
