Abstract

Marbles artisan in Desa Plumpogambang Kecamatan Gudo Kabupaten Jombang is an informal worker who make marbles for acsesory for clotes, informal worker is a part of comunity who take a less of care from goverment This study is an observational, analytic study with cross sectional approach. The population of this study was worker employed in melting and forming unit. The number of sample was 11 workers taken with purposive sampling technique with given criteria (i.e. healthy, employed in one group). Data were obtained by means interview, observation and measurement. Measurement in this study included measurement of air temperature, globe temperature, relativity humidity, air velocity as well as pulse rate and blood pressure before and after exposure to heat. Data collected were analyzed descriptively, and analytically by Paired T Test was used to analyzed the differences in pulse rates and blood pressures before and after exposure to heat of Marbles artisan in Desa Plumpogambang Kecamatan Gudo Kabupaten Jombang. The result of this study indicated WBGT Index in all work place had exceeded the recommended standard, that were also found that pulse rate (p=0,002 ) and systolic blood pressure (p=0,898) before and after exposure to heat were no difference and, while there was no difference in diastolic blood pressure before and after exposure to heat (p=0, 320) Based on result of this study it is recommended that additional rest period should be provided, acclimatization to heat should be provided to all new workers and reacclimatization should also be provided for those who are absence from work more than one week. Abstract

PT. Kalimantan Prima Persada Sungai Puting is a coal stockpile company. Field worker division is the most risky to coal respirable dust exposure. The purpose of this research was to identify the respirable dust rate in work environment and respiratory disorder among coal stockpile’s field workers. This was a descriptive study with cross sectional approach. Sample of coal respirable dust was taken by performing the measurement four locations in field PT. Kalimantan Prima Persada. The information about respiratory disorder was collected by interviewing 28 workers using by a questionnaire. The coal respirable dust had slightly above the threshold limit that was 2.19 mg/m3. Field worker’s respiratory disorders were cough with or without expectoration (49.15%), breathless (13.56%), asthma (11.86%), chest complaints (10.17%) and dust allergic (5.08%). Respondents characteristic were 15-30 years old (78.57%), level of education were senior high school (64.28%), and had work period 3-4 years (53.57%). Abstract

Malaria is a re-emerging disease and became a health problem in Indonesia. Environment is a dominant factor of prevalence and incidence of malaria in endemic areas. Research was done in endemic areas of malaria in East Java Province where in border area namely Tulungagung and Trenggalek. The aim of this study was described the influence of environment factor to malaria incidence in a border areas. This was an observational research with case study design. Area studi were Watulimo and Besuki. Malaria incidence in research areas included on Low Case Incidence (LCI) in Besuki, and High Case Insidence (HCI) in Watulimo. Temperature, humidity and rain density influenced (chi square test, p<0.05) the multiply of vector. Stay of breeding places supported the living of Anopheles sp. Cattle care with put of stable out dock can changed mosquitos behavior from anthrophilic to zoophilic. Vegetation in research areas was potential as rest places of Anopheles sp. It is concluded that environment is indirect factor to influence mosquito density that cause of malaria incidence. Recommendations can be given are prevent mosquito’s bites, spread the predator of Anopheles sp larva on breeding places, reporting the cases to health officer. Abstract

The management system of solid waste at Benowo  landfill is using controled landfill. This process can pollute salt pond around this site because the leachate containing heavy metal, especially lead (Pb). Pb can enter salt consumer body through ingestion can cause some diseases. The purpose of this research was to observe the correlation between leachate lead (Pb) pollution at salt pond around Benowo Landfill to lead level on hair of salt consumer. This was an analytical observational research with cross sectional approach. The lead level in leachate at outlet WWT of Benowo landfills was 21.83 mg/l. The lead level at salt pond in the north and the west of landfills radius + 100m, + 800m, + 1500m was different. The lead level at consumer hair (salt from salt ponds near Benowo landfill) was different to the comparison group (p = 0.039). It is concluded that the leachate drained into water was ineligible refer to Minister of Environment Decree No. 51/MENLH/10/1995 about Liquid Waste Quality Standard for Industrial Activities, and it had polluted the salt ponds in radius + 100m in the north and the west of landfills, also in radius + 800m in the north of landfills.   Keywords: levels of leachate Pb, salt Pb, hair Pb, Benowo control landfill area

Abstract

Benowo landfills potentially produce the leachate both permeating into the ground and flowing on the ground surface. Leachate came from the garbage decomposition increasing pollution level of the fishpond water around the landfills. Mercury is easily undergone on fishes living at the location that can endanger the human health because of its consumption.The objective of this study was to analyze the correlation of the leachate pollution to the fish mercury level and the consumer health. This was an observational analysis study with cross sectional approach. The mercury level in the outlet have exceeded the mercury standard value in the industrial waste water disposed to the irrigation system that is as 0.005 mg/l (Government of Surabaya, East Java Regulation No. 45/2002 about Water and Waste Water Quality Controll). The distance was the determinant factor affecting the mercury level of the fishes lived in fishpond, the farer the fishpond from the waste landfills, the smaller the mercury pollution in the fishes. The average mercury level on nail’s respondent was 0.0013 mg/kg and on common people was 0.00037 mg/kg. Therefore contaminated the mercury level have correlation to any health disturbances such as vertigo, dermatitis allergic, tremors and eye disease (Pearson correlation test, p<0.05 respectively).   Keywords: Hg leachate, Hg fish, Hg nail, health disturbance

Abstract

Benowo controlled landfill is surrounded by fishpond. The objective of this research was to study the quality of chemical levels (sulphate, ammonia, chloride) in fishpond related to distance from landfill and the health status of fish consumer. This research was observational study with cross sectional approach. The chemical water quality in fishpond around the controlled landfill Benowo did not fulfill the criteria of the third class of water that is used for agriculture, animal husbandry and cultivation activity. The chemical quality of the fishpond water was patternless if connected to the distance from landfills. The population around the Benowo controlled landfill was the people who had the high risk getting chemical exposure through the fish consumption from the fishpond that had been polluted.   Keywords: distance from landfill, chemical water quality, fish consumer’s, health status

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze number of patients and medical solid waste production in hospitalization and emergency room of Siti Khodijah Hospital, Sepanjang Sidoarjo. This research used survey method with cross sectional approach. Sample of research was the amount of solid medical waste each day in hospitalization and emergency room of Siti Khodijah Hospital Sepanjang Sidoarjo. Sample measured by unit volume during 28 days. The result showed that medical solid waste production at hospitalization room was 57.02 liter/day or 0.51 liter/bed/day and medical solid waste production at emergency room was 10.18 liter/day. The result of simple regression analysis showed that there was significant effect number of patient with solid medical waste production at emergency room (pearson correlation test, p<0.05), whereas number of patient with solid medical waste production at hospitalization room showed insignificant effect (pearson correlation test, p>0.05).   Keywords: number of patient, solid medical waste production

Abstract

Nutrition unit at hospital has to supply secure and nutritious food to serve hospitalized patient. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) is a preventive system of food control aimed at food safety assurance. The objective of this research was to study the management of food at Lumajang Islamic Hospital patient and designing HACCP at nutrition unit for hospitalized patient. This was a descriptive observational research with cross sectional approach. The result showed there were 4 type hazards identified in management of patient food that were physical, biological, chemical, relevant condition of nutritious and formulation hazards. There were 8 Critical Control Points (CCP) identified and critical limits determined in each CCP pursuant to temperature critical parameter, time, summed up E. coli, and organoleptic. Monitoring procedure was also conducted i.e temperature – time of cooking and saving the food using thermometer and stopwatch. As a conclusion, 7 principles of HACCP can be applied by nutrition unit at management of patient food but previously needs an applying the prerequisite like Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Sanitation Standart Operating Procedure (SSOP) to carry HACCP system. Nutrition unit can apply it gradually but need personal skill also commitment of hospital management to give food safety to the patient. Keywords : HACCP, Management of food patient

Abstract

“Nasi tempe penyet” is one of traditional favorite food in Surabaya. This menu is consisting of rice, fried tempe, fresh vegetables and chilli ketchup. The purpose of this research was to observe the hygiene of the food handlers, sanitation facility and hygiene of nasi tempe penyet. This was a descriptive research with cross sectional approach. There were 12 nasi tempe penyet street vendors at Karangmenjangan street, Surabaya who became respondent. Data collected using questionnaire and check list. There were several hygiene of the food handlers must be considered. They did not using apron and uniform. Conditions of sanitation facility did not meet the standard including the selling location, handling of garbage and grey water and also washing the cooking tools. In general food sanitation of nasi tempe penyet was good. The E. coli parameters were negative. The nasi tempe penyet street vendors at Karangmenjangan street need training about personal hygiene and food sanitation. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to observe the hygiene of refill drinking water operators, building and equipment sanitation also the sanitation facility of drinking water depo. This was a descriptive research with cross sectional approach. There were 6 refill drinking water depo at at Tanjung Redep, Berau, East Borneo which became observed. Data collected using questionnaire and check list. There were several of operators hygiene must be considered. They did not using special uniform for work and did not washing their hands before handling the water. Conditions of building and equipment were meet the standards. But the sanitation facilities were minimals, the wash basin for operators and its tools were not available. In general, hygiene and sanitation of drinking water depo were good. The coliform and E. coli parameters in production water were negative. It is sugessted to provide training about hygiene and sanitation for the owners and operators of refill drinking water depo.   Keywords: hygiene and sanitation, refill drinking water depo
