Abstract

Eradication of corruption has been a grand narrative since the early of reformation era. Mass media became part of the preservation of the grand narrative. Grand narrative is the main narration which becomes basis and universal character since it can be used as standard to measure and assess other narratives. This study analyzes grand narrative of corruption eradication in Indonesia soccer conflict in print media by using critical discourse by Norman Fairclough as research method. The result shows that media preserved grand narrative of corruption eradication through image projection of corruptors as common enemy. The spread of anti-corruption information through mass media carried out continuously and sustainably is a manifestation of the commitment to fight corruption. Information provided by media does not only explains the state’s loss but up to the development of its completion.

Abstract

This research tests the hypothesis that social media (Instagram) is used as an effective medium to disseminate and educate people on issue of migration and digital TV. It is a three-week experimental research to 79 students as respondents based on video animation and text related to digital broadcasting. Instagram is chosen in term of interactive and audio-visual characteristics. The result shows that there is non-significant difference on students’ knowledge after treatment. The Chi Square test shows that Asymptotic significance is 0.646 (greater than 0,05). It indicates that there is no significant difference of knowledge before and after receiving a message about digital TV via Instagram.

Abstract

This study describes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) message on official website of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and features of official website as CSR communication medium. Quantitative content analysis is used as the method. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. This study selected 55 Indonesian SOEs official website. The result shows that state-owned companies have not applied transparency of CSR communication messages on their official website. The study finds that a number of state-owned companies do not present CSR information on their official website. In general, CSR communication on the official website of state-owned companies is limited to presenting information related to government program called Partnership Program and Community Development (PKBL). The official websites of state-owned companies have not utilized potential use of the website as communication medium of CSR. State-owned companies have not fully realized the role of official website as strategic media in conveying CSR communication message.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with diversified ethnics, religions and races. Without spirit of tolerance this condition can emerge conflict and disunion. Mass media is one of instruments in mass communication process that filter and select news and conflict to be presented. This study investigates how mass media presents conflict with peace journalism principle as an alternative solution in handling conflicts in Indonesia. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and framing analysis. Result shows that mass media have significant roles in constructing public opinion since they have power to construct reality in public in disseminating information and values to community for achieving tolerance.

Abstract

Twitter is a new political communication channel massively used during Indonesian presidential election 2014. The character of the medium identified as interactive, participative and decentralized become main reasons why experts optimist on how this new media develop democratization. However, based on political situation in the context of Indonesian presidential election 2014, the argument needs to be confirmed. Twitter with its democratizing character, on the other hand has contradiction impact in facilitating irrational discussion, particularly run under mechanism of imagology politic. It is found in this research that implements Critical Discourse Analysis and confirmed with deliberative democracy theory. The study concludes that successful political discussion on Twitter about political leadership of presidential candidate was not determined by rational discussion (egalitarian, consensus, equal communication, etc) but it’s merely determined by how skillful political actor construct the image of political leadership of the presidential candidate.

Abstract

New media allows anyone to produce, reproduce, distribute, and access various kinds of messages and uses, including online Public Relations (Online PR). This study aims to analyze websites of local governments (district and the city) as a means of Online PR and to find model of utilization Online PR. This study uses qualitative method reinforced by benchmarking of functional between government website management and service display. The results  show a model of utilization of local government website as a tool for online PR.

Abstract

This research aims to find synchronization of district government policy, the use of Sistem Informasi Desa, and participation of people in Terong Village, in Dlingo Sub District of Bantul. This research applied a group model based on collective identity with some modifications as an appropriate institutionalization model of community participation suited with local wisdom in Terong village. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Data derived from observation, focus group discussions and interviews. Data analysis has been done through interactive techniques. The result of this research is a model of a group-based institutionalization of community participation for utilization Village Information System supported by Combine Resource Institution (CRI) and the goverment of Bantul.

Abstract

Image of Lampung as a wonderful Indonesia culture with Sang Bumi Khua Jukhai slogan is an interesting phenomenon. Slogan as an object of study has a meaning that can be negotiated any time. Sang Bumi Khua Jukhai means Lampung is a land with two-doors: indigenous and non-indigenous. This study analyzses negotiation of cultural image of multicultural society in Tanah Siger from Lampung slogan “Sang Bumi Khua Jukhai” using a case study method. The research shows that Lampung culture is multiculturally complex. The appeal of Siger land culture can be found through meanings of Sang Bumi Khua Jukhai slogan. This meaning is internalized in individual behavior such as open, friendly (Nemui-Nyimah), sociable (Nengah Nyampokh), helpful (Sakai Sambayan), to be trusted (Juluk Adok) and dignity (Piil Pusenggikhi). These values become track record of citizens’ reputation of Lampung. Reputation also became capital of local government in introducing Lampung city (city branding). City branding has been done through cultural image negotiations including “insight” analysis of situation, creating and introducing slogan, implementing and maintaining the existing value in the message as well as evaluating or monitoring platform slogan.

Abstract

This research aims to assess whether campaign on dangers of smoking have been appropriate as good persuasive message using Extended Parallel Process Model (EPPM)theory by Kim Witte. Persuasion message should contain two aspects: to provide threat on dangers of smoking and at the same time to give a way out in the form of a recommendation that a person could avoid dangers of smoking. The research method used is evaluation research. It evaluated to two campaigns based on Public Service Announcement (PSA) of the Ministry of Health of RI titled “Suara Hati Anak” and PSA of the Ministry of Health Malaysia titled “Smoking Destroys Lives”. The result shows that PSA created by the Ministry of Health of RI doesn’t fully contain elements of good persuasive message compared to PSA made by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze communication strategies of public services through family empowerment program (Posdaya). It uses qualitative descriptive method with interactive analysis techniques to analyze data. Data collection was done by interview, observation and document study. The result shows that communication strategy of public services in the community has improved public service aspects on basic needs of society. Posdaya program is one of the programs as a part of empowerment and that generates basic services to community.
