Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is the fifth leading cause of death due to all the type of cancer and the second leading cause of death in developing country after lung cancer. The global incidents of this disease were 43%. The cancer cells have an ability to disturb the nutrients absorbtion in the body and give an effect of decreasing nutritional status, physical performance and quality of life. Objective: To show the relationship between nutrient intake, nutritional status and quality of life, breast cancer patients with radiotherapy at RSUP Dr Sardjito Yogyakarta.Method: This study was an observational study with cross sectional design. Total subject of this study were 85 respondents. Intake of energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate were measured using 1x24 hours food recall. Nutritional status were measured using patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) questionnaire. Then the quality of life were measured using European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) questionnaire. Results: There were significant difference in the average intake of energy (p=0.013), protein (p=0.043) and fat (p=0.016) between severe malnourished, moderate malnourished and wellnourished patients, whereas the average intake of carbohydrate was not significant (p=0.070). The lower nutrition intake, the lower nutritional status. There was also significant difference in fat intake (p=0.035) and nutritional status based on PG-SGA (p=0.002) between patients with poor and good quality of life. Patients with poor quality of life had lower nutrition intake and nutritional status. Conclusion: Nutrient intake gave an effect to nutritional status and quality of life in breast cancer patient with radiotherapy.

Abstract

Background: Elderly (>60 years old) population is growing in Indonesia. It is important to prevent degradation of cognitive capacity by risk factor identification and treatment. Objective: To identify the relationship between anthropometric status and cognitive capacity on elderly population.Method: This is an analysis of The Fifth Wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS5) data with cross-sectional design. Anthropometric status is consisted of: body weight, body height, body mass index (BMI), knee height, upper arm length, waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist-hip ratio (WHR). Cognitive capacity is measured by modified telephone survey of cognitive status (TICS). Chi-Square and Mann-Whitney test are used for bivariate analysis, logistic regression is used for multivariate analysis. Results: Variables with significant relationship to cognitive capacity are body weight (p=0.0002), body height (p=0.0001), knee height (p=0.0387), upper arm length (p=0.0114), age (p=0.011), sex (p=0.014), and history of hypercholesterolemia (p=0.003). Logistic regression shows that body height, age, and history of hypercholesterolemia are simultaneously affecting cognitive capacity. Conclusion: There is significant relationship between body height, body weight, upper arm length, knee height, and cognitive capacity on elderly population with obesity.

Abstract

Background: Neuropathy diabetic pain are common symptom in patient with diabetic melitus. The combination of vitamin B1, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 usually used for treatment the pain, the result of previous studies are limited and conflicting. Objective: The aim of the study to measure the convering of intensity of pain in diabetic neuropathy.Method: The method of study using quase experimental design with pre and post treatment patient were selected by conservative sampling method from Bethesda Hospital, Yogyakarta. There are 68 patient diabetic neuropathy to follow in the study. Fact patient received combination of vitamin B1 100 mg, vitamin B6 100 mg, and vitamin B12 5000 mcg once a day for 3 month. Pain intensity measured using visual analog scale (VAS) on the first initial visited after 30th day and 90th day. Results: The 68 patient consist of 27 (39.7%) male and 41 (60.3%) women. The mean age 58.32±6.72 years. The mean duration of Diabetic 4.32±2.86 year. The study showed that the pain intensity lower significantly after received vitamin B (p<0.001). The mean pain intensity in first VAS 43.68±12.32 lower to 20.42±11.24 and in the end of study lower to 12.23±8.39.Conclusion: The combination of vitamin B1, B6, B12 significantly lower pain intensity of patient diabetic neuropathy.

Abstract

Background: Stroke is a burdensome disease. The prevalence of stroke has increased by 16% over the last 6 years. The biggest risk factor for stroke is hypertension, but consumption of animal products such as meat, fish, eggs, and milk is often associated with the onset of stroke. Objective: To examine the relationship between the frequencies of animal products consumption to the incidence of stroke in 2014/2015 on hypertensive people in 2007/2008.Method: This research was using case control design performed by analyzing longitudinal data derived from Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) 4 and 5 (2007/2008 and 2014/2015). The population of this study was Indonesian aged over 40 years who have been diagnosed with hypertension in IFLS 4.Results: The results of bivariate analysis using Chi Square test and Fisher's exact test found that the variables significantly associated with stroke diagnosis in IFLS 5 were IFLS 5 fish consumption (p=0.027; OR=0.47); IFLS 4 milk consumption (p=0.04; OR=2.97); IFLS 5 hypertension diagnosis (p=0.006; OR=4.03); IFLS 4 diabetes mellitus diagnosis (p=0.033;OR=8.91); and IFLS 5 diabetes mellitus diagnosis (p=0.041; OR=3.73), also IFLS 5 physical activity (p=0.00; OR=0.34).Conclusion: Fish consumption of 2 - 7 days per week and adequate physical activity is associated with a decreased risk of stroke in a population that has been diagnosed with hypertension. Daily milk consumption, hypertension diagnosis, and diabetes mellitus diagnosis may increase the risk of stroke.

Abstract

Background: Obesity caused diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Yoga considered three aspects, physic, emotion and mental that helped in obesity therapy. Objective: This research aimed to explain the influence of yoga excercise on body weight, percent of body fat, waist circumference and waist to hip ratio (WHR) in overweight women.Method: This research applied quasi experiment design by using pre-post test with control group design. The subjects of research were 31 women aged 19-25 years old and divided into 2 groups, treatment group and control group. Treatment group was prepared to do yoga in 60 minutes for 10 times during 20 days and given nutrition education, whereas control group was given nutrition education only. Data body weight and percentage of body fat were measured by bioimpedance analysis; waist circumference and WHR were measured by tape measures; food intake were assessed by food recall and food frequency questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test.Results: There was a significant difference of body weight before and after intervention in both groups. The body weight on treatment group decreased by 0.81 ± 1.29 kg (p<0.05), while the body weight on the control group increased. Percentage of body fat and waist circumference decreased on both of groups, however treatment group decreased more than the control group. WHR no significant on both of groups. Yoga excercise resulted no significant influences on body weight, percentage of body fat, waist circumference and WHR in overweight women (p>0.05). Conclusion: Obesity women with 10 times yoga had no significant influences on body weight, percentage of body fat, waist circumference and WHR.
