Abstract

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia through the 1945 constitution guarantees every citizen to obtain education services without any differences. The fact is that the quality of education services in Indonesia is not evenly distributed, for example in villages and cities or in normal and special needs students (ABK). Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder that affects reading difficulties that have difficulty calculating and writing. These symptoms are 5-10% of children in the world. This disorder occurs in individuals with normal or high intelligence levels. This study focuses on instructional communication between teachers on dyslexic children. The subjects of this study were the teachers who taught at Cibungur Elementary School and Limusnunggal Elementary School Sindangpalay Village, Cibeureum Subdistrict. The purpose of this study was to find out the instructional communication that was built by the teacher on dyslexic children and the methods taken in delivering instructional messages to dyslexic children. The above problems can be answered through research using descriptive qualitative research methods. Data is obtained through observable words, interviews and actions, and the rest of additional data such as documents, archives and others. Interpersonal communication is an important part of the instructional process of teachers and dyslexic children. Not only an interpersonal approach, teachers are required to determine the right way to improve reading skills in children. One method used is a multisensory teaching approach.

Abstract

Science is knowledge consisting of a collection of concepts. The wrong concept understanding will lead to misconceptions in students. The main purpose of this research is to analyze primary school students’ misconception through six tier diagnostic tests about the concept of water characteristics. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected by using six tier diagnostic test. The subjects of this study are the fifth grade students of primary school. Based on the results of data analysis, researchers found that almost half of the students experience the misconceptions on the concept of water characteristics including water gives pressure, soapy water cleans oily dirt, and water dissolves various substances. The six tier diagnostic test instrument show the primary school students’ misconception on the concept of water characteristics. Some factors that cause misconceptions in students are students' prior knowledge, teacher mistaken, and errors in textbooks.

Abstract

Multicultural approach is learning to use cultural diversity as a force in carrying out classroom learning. The aim of this research is to analyze the improvement of students' learning outcomes of art concepts between those who obtain learning with a multicultural approach and those who obtain conventional learning. This research is a quasi-experiment study with the nonequivalent control group design method for pre-service elementary school teacher. The research data were analyzed utilized the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results was in the experimental class obtaining an initial test average of 61.13 increased to 78.35 in the final test. While the control class obtained an initial test average of 61.65 and increased to 68.87 in the final test. The results of this research indicate that there are differences in the average score of the initial and final tests, but there is no statistically significant difference in the improvement of learning outcomes of the art concept between students who obtain learning through the application of a multicultural approach with students who are learning as generally.

Abstract

This study is about the importance of parenting education to give knowledge, understanding, and skills for both parents and the teachers in educating, guiding, parenting, and organizing the education provided by parents at home and children-friendly education at school. The purposes of this study as follows, to describe the process of implementation in parenting education program, to describe the process of evaluation in parenting education program, and describe the result of parenting education program. The subjects of this study are Ar-Rahman Darul Ilmi Elementary School teachers, and parents of the third-grade students who are involved in the implementation of parenting education program.  The data collection techniques were conducted by observation, interview, and documentation. The result of the study shows that: 1) the concept of parenting education program activities include the setting of time, place of implementation, media, and the facilities of school used in the implementation of parenting conducted by the administrators and teachers. 2) The implementation of the parenting education program is formed by the meetings of the parents while the discussion is prioritizing on how to educate by preceding the right of children in learning. 3) Socializing child-friendly learning media which can be used to guide the children. 3) Evaluating the parenting program by using interview method based on the material which has been given in parenting education program. 4) The result of child-friendly manner at home and school. 5) The continuity of child-friendly parenting education program which will be applied on an annual basis.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is, the first to analyze the implementation of mentoring programs for beginner teachers who are alumni of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education Ibn Khaldun University who have worked in basic education institutions in the city of Bogor. Second, it describes the influence of the mentoring program on improving the professional competence of beginner teachers. Third, good communication and kinship between alumni and alma mater is established. The research method used is mix methods (qualitative and quantitative). Data collection in this study uses interviews, observation, focus group discussions, and scale. The object of this research is Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education Ibn Khaldun University alumni who work in Bogor in different basic education institutions, namely public elementary schools, Private Madrasah Ibtidaiyah and Islamic Elementary School, which are honorary and permanent teachers. The conclusion of the result of this study is the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education Ibn Khaldun University alumni assistance program is proven to improve teacher professionalism competencies which include six indicators, those are the application of science, work productivity, innovation, problem solving, work environment adaptation, responsiveness of students' needs. And tighten the fabric of communication between alumni and nature.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students' learning outcomes in the third grade of elementary school in the use of modules on tutoring in SDN IV Tanggung in Tulungagung District. The study design uses a classroom action research consisting of two cycles. Each silklus consists of 4 stages, namely the stage of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study are class III students who numbered 42 students in SDN IV Tanggung. Data on the use of Module taken from the observation and interview. The data have been analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study using module ni indicate that can improve student learning outcomes. Before using student learning result module shows percentage 50% in cycles I and At Cycle II reach 71,69%%. Based on the observations during the implementation of the action on the cycle I and cycle II found the results showed an increase in some aspects specified in this study.

Abstract

Pengajaran bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak di SD yang sering disebut English for Young Learners (EYL), yang mulai dikenalkan secara formal di Indonesia sejak tahun 1994 masih menarik untuk diteliti karena hasil pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat SD/MI selama ini masih dianggap masih kurang memuaskan. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis domain pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan oleh guru di SD/MI unggul di kabupaten Ponorogo yang meliputi: cara guru merencanakan pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan prinsip mengajar bahasa Inggris bagi anak, cara guru mengkondisikan suasana pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan prinsip mengajar bahasa Inggris bagi anak, dan cara guru melaksanakan pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan prinsip mengajar bahasa Inggris bagi anak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian lapangan dengan menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologis dimana peneliti ingin mengkaji keadaan yang nyata pelaksanaan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah dasar di kabupaten Ponorogo. Hasil penelitian tersebut akan dipaparkan secara deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam persipan mengajar RPP yang mereka siapkan belum sepenuhnya menngacu pada prinsip prinsip tersebut yang antara lain RPP harus meyakinkan bahwa siswa bisa menikmati pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Dalam hal pengkondisian kelas selama pembelajaran dari ketiga subjek yang diamati realatif sama. Suasana kelas tercipta cukup kondusif dan terkendali. Akan tetapi pengkondisian kelas tersebut masih bersifat konvensional. Apabila disinkronkan dengan prinsip-prinsip pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk anak, kegiatan yang dilakukan masih dominan pada kegiatan yang berpusat pada guru (teacher center). Peran siswa masih minimal karena pembelajarannya masih berpusat pada buku teks. Berdasarkan temuan ini maka peneliti menyarankan kepada praktisi atau guru bahasa Inggris untuk anak atau guru bahasa Inggris SD/MI untuk mengkaji lebih jauh tentang hakekat dan gaya belajar pembelajar muda dengan melalui kajian literatur, pelatihan, atau berbagai pengalaman dengan teman sejawat.

Abstract

Penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) merupakan salah satu alternative bagi pengajar untuk menyelesaika permasalahan di kelas. Salah satu permasalahan yang sering muncul  dalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris adalah materi pembelajaran yang kurang efektif. Maka seagai pengajar Bahasa Inggris untuk program studi  Manajemen (English for Specific Purposes) penulis juga mengalami permasalahan tersebut, sehingga penulis terdorong untuk melakukan PTK guna meningkatkan prestasi Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa Manajemen Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo dengan menerapkan materi otentik. Materi otentik adalah materi pembelajaran dari sumber otentik dan dibuat bukan untuk tujuan pembelajaran. PTK ini dilakukan dalam 2 siklus dengan subyek penelitian mahasiswa Manajemen yang sedang mengambil mata kuliah Business English khususnya kelas B pada semester genap tahun akademik 2014/2015. Instrumen yang dipakai adalah catatan lapangan, ceklis pengamatan, wawancara, kuisioner, dan tes. Sementara  analisa data dilakukan dengan cara penghitungan prosentasi dan deskripsi interpretasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses pembelajaran dan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris (Business English) mahasiswa Manajemen mengalami peningkatan khususnya setelah  materi otentik tersebut diterapkan dengan menggunakan strategi berpasangan. Hal ini dikarenakan jumlah mahasiswa yang cukup besar sementara penataan kursi juga sulit dilakukan ulang. Dengan berpasangan meminimalisir mahasiswa yang cenderung tidak mau aktif dalam proses pembelajaran. Dan dalam menyelesaikan tugas ketika jumlah kelompok lebih kecil  mahasiswa cenderung lebih bertanggung jawab dibandingkan jika  mereka  berada dalam kelompok besar.

Abstract

Human needs a means of communication to fulfill their social needs. To support communication easier, electronic media is used, such as television, radio, telephone, and handphone. Electronic media provide information can be understood more easily and instanly. The development of era has been influence in communication and interaction way. In this case, language which be used also influenced. Nowadays, many of slang word used in communication. Slang is a language variety which are informal which used to communication more easily and instanly in social group.The objectives of research is to inform about slang word (in this case ‘alay language’) which complicated with standard of Indonesia language. Therefore, the use of alay language is worried because it has many errors in Indonesia language. And, it can damage the standard of Indonesia language. The method used in this research is qualitative method, writer select descriptive techniques to analyze the data. Data obtained came from BlacBerry messenger, twitter, instragram, path, line and facebook. To colect data, writer used the method of observation. The writer found that in Alay ‘Alay’ is one of slang language that used in talk between teenagers. It can be understood by certain group particularly group who use ‘alay’ language. ‘Alay’ language for communication has many errors in Bahasa Indonesia. Alay language in social media can be minimized in order to avoid misunderstanding in delivering message.Key Words: communication, ‘slang’ language, alay, social media

Abstract

This study is to investigate the learning strategies applied by low-level leaners (LLLs), the results of which can be used as the basis for placing them in an English language speaking class. Specifically this study is to find an answer To what extent do low-level leaners use social strategies in learning to speak English?? Observation and an in-depth interview wereused to collect the data which were in the form of the subjects? spoken utterances (verbal behavior) and their accompanying actions (non-verbal behavior). The data were analyzed using the social language learning strategies (SLLS) proposed by Rebecca Oxford. Three universityleaners from the third semester who are of the same level of proficiency were selected as the subjects of the study. Results of the data analysis show that the LLLs do not use all social strategies in speaking activities. Based on what has been shown by this study, it is suggestedthat supportive teacher behaviors, i.e., building leaners? confident, giving motivation during the teaching, listening attentively to students while speaking, giving hints and encouragement, being responsive to student questions, creating natural setting and showing students empathy need to be provided in speaking class activities to explore leaners social strategies.
