Development of Edmodo-Based E-Learning Media on the Plantae's Discussion for Learning Biological High School

Abstract

Biology is a science whose concept is abstract and has a wide scope. One of them is the subject of Plantae that requires appropriate media to help to visualize the material being taught. Some things to consider in the selection of media such as material and learner characteristics. Characteristics of learners today is known as the Z generation so that the appropriate media is one that involves the use of technology. One of them is Edmodo-based e-learning media. The use of Edmodo-based e-learning media enables the delivery of more varied and much-involved students. This study aimed to find out the development process of Edmodo-based e-learning media and to produce a valid product as well as to know the effectiveness and practicality of the product. This research was a development research using a method by Borg and Gall (1983) model that has been modified by Sugiyono (2006). Stage of limited scale trial was conducted in SMAN 2 Jember and SMAN 4 Jember. The result of the product validation test of e-learning media development on average produced a valid product. Effectiveness test at SMAN 2 Jember and at SMAN 4 Jember resulted in a high N-Gain score. The result of the practicality test through the students and teachers responses of SMAN 2 Jember and SMAN 4 Jember created a response with strongly agree category.   Keywords: Edmodo, e-learning, development, Plantae subject.

Abstract

This research aimed at determining the validity of interactive multimedia on the nerve system material that had been developed and finding out the students’ response to the interactive multimedia. This was a developmental research (Research and Development) followed by a small group test on the eleventh-grade students of SMAN Ambulu totaling 9 students. The students were selected based on their ability level; 3 students with high ability level, 3 students with moderate ability level and 3 students with low ability level. The data collection techniques used were experts' validation sheets and questionnaires. The design of the interactive multimedia in this research was 4D (define, design, develop and disseminate) model developed by Thiagarajan (1974). The developmental procedure of 4D consists of 4 stages: (1) define, (2) design, (3) develop and (4) disseminate. The results showed that the validity of the developed interactive multimedia reached 82.9% according to the content expert, 86.3% based on the learning expert, 88,3% based on the learning media expert, and 82.7% based on the teacher’s (user) perspective. The results of small group test revealed that the legibility and the level of difficulty were 81.99% or in the good category,  and student response score was 83.55%, it means that student had positive response toward the use of developed media in their learning.   Keywords: interactive multimedia, 4D, expert validity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a new learning media in the form of a magazine to support the histology learning process. The presence of the Five Human Organs Magazine is expected to provide a new learning atmosphere during the learning process, and to be able to provide new information on the topic of histology of the five organs of the human body, namely the brain, lungs, stomach, heart and liver. The development model used in this study was 4D development model from Thiagarajan (1974). The 4D model has 4 stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. But in this study it was only carried out until the develop stage without disseminate stages. The sample used in the trial was a class A of 2016 consist of 40 students. Data obtained by means of questionnaires. The results showed that the development of teaching materials for five human organs magazines was suitable to use in learning activities. This was indicated by the result expert validation which revealed that the product was very good. Validation result for learning media and learning design were said to be very good. Individual and group trial data said that the product was very good. In the medium group trial it can be concluded that the teaching material of the five human organs magazine is suitable to be used as a reference for the histology teaching material by students in IKIP Budi Utomo Malang.   Keywords: Histology teaching materials, magazine, five human organs.

In Silico Potential of Turmeric (Cucurma longa) as Antibacterial Agent for Salmonella typhi

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country that has a variety of endemic infectious diseases, one of these diseases is typhoid fever. Salmonella typhi is a bacterium that causes typhoid fever. Antibiotic treatment is often used but fails due to bacterial resistance to antibiotics. An alternative treatment is required to gradually substitute synthetic antibiotic. One of this potential is given by turmeric (Curcuma longa).The purpose of this research was to know the potential of turmeric as in silico antibacterial agent for Salmonella typhi using docking method. Docking result showed that the five compounds produced different values ​​on the affinity and rmsd binding parameters. The highest affinity binding value was the Ciprofloxacin compound, the lowest was Bisdemethoxycurcumin compound. The highest rmsd value was Demethoxycurcumin, while the lowest was Xanthorrhizol, and the result revealed that all compounds have bioaffinity properties. Based on the results, three compounds derived from turmeric (demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxy curcumin and xanthorrizol) are still not effectively used as antibacterial agent for Salmonella typhi due to the absence of equality of amino acid residues between alternative compounds turmeric with compounds which has been clinically tested as a drug and ineffective use of receptor proteins that result in less optimal alternative compounds.   Keywords: Turmeric, Antibacterial, Salmonella typhi, In Silico

Abstract

Kahoot is a relatively new e-learning education tool.The data on its effectiveness in classroom teaching for plant biotechnology is scarce and limited. Hence the current research was aimed at incorporating Kahoot in classroom activity in plant biotechnology learning and to assess the effectiveness of Kahoot in the learning process. Qualitative research method was adopted in this study to investigate the applicability of the Kahoot!, the digital assessment tool, in Mattayom 1 (1st Grade Junior High School). Using data collection methods such as qualitative research , observation,  document analysis. There are 45 Participants from Mattayom 1/12  in Hatyaiwittayalaisomboonkulkannya School. Based on pre test and post test average value we can assessed effectiveness of Kahoot as an e-learning tool in Biotechnology learning. Pre test is assessment before using Kahoot. We can see that before we used Kahoot average value of test is 55,95 and after we used Kahoot average value of test is 81,92. Kahoot has made students’ learning easy, enjoyable, and interactive and helped them to understand the subject better. Kahoot is an excellent e-learning tool that provides a positive environment in the classroom, increases energy, concentration, and knowledge. It can motivate the students to learn in a fun filled, enjoyable, and friendly competitive environment.   Key words: Kahoot, Digital learning, Assessment.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the type of weed and its potential as parasite nematode host plants in arabica and robusta plantations. This study included a qualitative exploratory research where weed sampling was carried out by roaming in the area of ​​Arabica and Robusta coffee plantations. Various types of weeds were taken, identified, and then extracted its root to find out the existence of nematodes. The result showed that there were 8 species of weeds where nematodes can be found in their roots. Those weeds were Tuton (Paspalum mandiocanum), Oxtail (Heliotropium indicum), Paku (Davallia denticulata), Pendul (Kyllinga brevifolia). Sintrong (Crassocephalum crepidioides), Bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides), Oplismenus hirtellus, Princess shame (Mimosa invisa). The result of nematodes identification revealed that it was Pratilenchus coffeae, a common parasitic nematode that attacks coffee.   Keywords: weed type, alternative weed nematode host, coffee

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the use of media Augmented Reality (AR) to improve learning interest in Matayom 2/2 class students who are lower secondary grades at Streesmutprakan School. This was a classroom action research (CAR) consisting of two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning stage, acting, observing and reflecting stage. The subjects of this study were all 34 students of Matayom 2/2 class. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentary analysis. Data analysis techniques used qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that students' learning interest in the first cycle was 3.3 with medium criteria, increasing to 4.4 with high criteria in the second cycle. The use of media Augmented Reality (AR) can increase students learning interest in Matayom 2/2 at Streesmutprakan School, Samut Prakan Province, Thailand.   Keywords: Augmented Reality, Cell Material, 3D Media, Learning Interest.

Abstract

Buah Pisang Mas kirana kini telah memasuki pasar internasional melalui ekspor ke berbagai negara yang ditunjukkan dengan keikutsertaan buah Pisang Mas Kirana dalam pameran internasional APEC di Bali. Kendala yang dihadapi dalam melakukan pemasaran buah pisang Mas Kirana adalah waktu simpan Pisang Mas yang singkat yaitu dari saat mulai masak sampai dengan busuk sekitar 1 minggu. Lidah buaya (Aloe vera) merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai pengawet alami karena di dalamnya terdapat kandungan anti bakteri dan antiseptik yang dapat meningkatkan daya tahan serta Asam Amino yang dapat memberikan perbaikan dan pembentukan regenerasi sel. Abstract

This study aimed to increase the interest and learning outcomes of English through Demonstration Method in class II students of As-Shakireen Primary School, Thailand. This research was a classroom action research. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, interest scale, and tests. Data analysis techniques were carried out by means of qualitative and quantitative descriptive. Increased interest and English learning outcomes with Demonstration methods carried out from pre-cycle activities, cycle 1 consisting of stages of planning, acting, observation, and reflection. Based on the results of data analysis, it showed the scale of student interest from pre-cycle to cycle with the use of demonstration method has increased. While student learning outcomes also experience an increase as indicated by the average value of students and the average students who exceed the minimum criteria. So that the demonstration method implemented can increase the interest and learning outcomes of class II students in English subjects at As-Shakireen primary school.   Keywords: demonstration method, learning interest, learning outcomes

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a web-based learning materials using Moodle Application. This was a Research and Development study. The data were collected using needs analysis questionnaire, pre-test/post-test, student responses questionnaire, and  experts validation. The development process was carried out using ADDIE model (Analyze, Development, Design, Implemantation, Evaluation). The result showed that all expert judgments were on satisfaction category. The content expert gave 80,23%, the learning media expert gave 80,7%, while the development expert agree in the point of 75% and teacher as user prospectus gave agreement on 80%.   Keywords: Teaching Materials, Moodle application, ADDIE
